Was reminiscing about long gone Burnley pubs earlier.
There's two I can't recall the names of and now its bugging me so thought where better to turn for help than the knowlegeable local posters on UTC
One was at the top of Standish St (halfords end) and round to the left (as you walked up Standish) the other was roughly where Aldi is now.

When you waked up Standish up near the station were the Reindeer and the Adelphi pubs. Also in the neck of the woods but closer to the centre was the Coachmakers. Is the Carlton still open on Standish St?

It did indeed. And i found it for the first time since the demise of The Prince Albert only last year. Skipton at the bottom of the main street - pub is Sheeps Head or Woolpack or something sheepy.. It's bloody strong though - didn't remember that.

Woolly Sheep.
Used to be the Brick Hall, so called because it was the first building in Skipton built of brick.

Can't see the Cricketers on Smallpauls list.
Wasn't it roughly across from the away turnstiles on Harry Potts Way?
About fifty yards from the Wellington's back door.

Not only is it incomplete, some addresses given are inaccurate.
One example,it states the Footballers Arms was on Anne Street but as this pic clearly shows it was on the corner of Plumbe Street & Yorkshire Street.

There used to be a pub, which stood at the back of the old market hall, between the bottom of Standish St and Curzon St. I think it was called the Corporation. I remember it as a child because it was brightly painted on the outside with advertisements for the various beers it sold inside.

47 Curzon Street
Edit: Ah,,that list gives the correct address.

Ecky thump I count over 120+ pubs that website lists as having closed down.
It's always tragic when a pub closes but to think that there have been 120+ additional pubs in Burnley at one time or another is astonishing.
I think the population of Burnley peaked in Edwardian times but it has never been a 'large' town.
It's amazing.
Thankfully there are at least a handful of good pubs still going.
God Bless the following:
The Bridge
The Rifle Volunteer
The 110 Club
The Wetherspoons (Bob Lord forgive me)
The New Brew-m
The Talbot
There are some godforsaken bad pubs in Burnley too. Heaven only knows how they keep going.

The Coachmakers was on Newcastle Street. It was the first pub in Burnley that I got served in at 16 years old back in the 60s. The first pub I was ever served in was the Leeds and Liverpool in Brierfield also at 16.

I was 18 in 1971. My room spinning threshold by that time was 4 - 5 pints depending on the beer. Brew Ten was 5 pints, Thwaites was usually 4.
Sid's Cellar was where I usually ended up.

Along with Woolly Sheep (aka Brick Hall) another regular outlet for Taylor's Ram Tam is Boltmakers Arms on East Parade in Keighley

Another pub missing from that list is the Cricketers Arms which stood at 53 Anne Street.
With it being situated close to the turf it was likely a regular haunt on matchdays for many Clarets.
Anyone remember this pub?

Thing is I lived just the other side of Lyndhurst Road all through my childhood (60' 70's) but I don't remember those 2 pubs.
Just so annoying.

I, also, do not remember a Joiners pub on Anne St, though I do remember the Cricketers. Also, in the general area of he Turf, there was The Bee Hive opposite the Pentridge cinema (Circulation) and on the street running from The Oxford to Tod Rd, there wa the Spread Eagle. There were three pubs on Sandygate: the Hole in the Wall, the Prince of Wales and the Old House at Home, whilst round the corner on Trafalgar was the Malakov Tavern (opposite the filling station). Couple more I remember, the Dog and Partridge near the Stork on Westgate, the Fox and Pheasant on Cow Lane, the New Market in the old market square. I didn't go in any of these but I remember them as a child.

The Spread Eagle stood at 15 Temple Street & The Bee Hive was at 5 Holmes Street
I'm led to believe there were one or two more pubs between Temple Street & Holmes Street before demolition but forgot the names of the pubs & the old streets so I can't pick them out from a list of bygone pubs that I have.

Coachmakers was my first pub, I was about 14. Used to skive school and spend the day there playing darts and pinball machine. Also went to Brierfield Leeds and Liverpool pub, Railway Arms and Brierfield Liberal Club.
