Shirt Sponsor

Post by Tis Mee » Mon Apr 16, 2018 5:30 pm

Was fortunate to enjoy some hospitality on Saturday against Leicester and i overheard one of the commercial guys telling someone they had done a massive shirt deal that was worth four times the current one, on further questioning they wouldn't say who with.

Hopefully not a betting company. The earache I get from my lad when he has to get a replica shirt without a sponsor is damned annoying. It's also rank hypocrisy to have betting company logos all over the stadium and then trot out some trite morality sh!t to explain why children aren't allowed to have the logo on their shirt.

Not too long ago Daftobet were paying Sunderland 7m a season at the same time as paying us 1m. Quite rightly we should now value our shirt sponsorship at around the 8-10m mark.

From what I've been led to believe, they are still paying Sunderland considerably more than they are paying us.

Unfortunately it will be a betting company, I'm sure of that. The simple fact is they pay a lot more than any other kind of company. The only chance of a big sponsorship deal from a non betting company is to be a big, big club. They can demand massive money from other companies.

I think the current one is worth around £2.5M a season, if we have managed to negotiate 4 times as much then that is £10m, which would put us in 7th in terms of value.

This. We should also make it a 3 year deal while our cachet is at a modern-day high

Every Burnley game is broadcast live to many many countries. 5 years ago, nobody in USA had heard of Burnley. They have now. North American Clarets membership has soared . Our worldwide fan base will increase even more if we qualify for The Europa League.

Just checked current membership levels of a few Clarets sites around the world. North American Clarets currently has 495 members. Was way less than 50 when I joined a few years ago. Melbourne Clarets have 177 members and South East Asia Clarets have 178. No doubt these levels will continue to rise.

You would be amazed how many people love Burnley over here. I reckon in my local bar alone there are now maybe 20 who watch us regularly. Maybe five or six are down to me. The rest love the underdog small working class town club with little funds angle. I even so a guy with a Burnley beanie hat on the other day.

P3 Computers I heard, returning to the fold, bumper 6 year sponsorship worth 14 thousand a year.

Not to be sniffed at.

I was in New York City back in February and went to Legends Bar on west 33rd St, right by the Empire State, to watch the Southampton game
Downstairs they have the Football Factory with streams to watch every match live, not just PL but Championship, Ligue 1, Serie A. La Liga etc...

Yes,Mondays i normally do a 3.00pm while around 7.00 pm session. Happy hour is 4.00pm- 6.00pm $3 pints and half price wings. It would be rude not to!

Maybe a silly question but could we get a bigger sponsorship deal if we went a season or two without a sponsor first? The fact that we wouldn't have a sponsor would be a talking point and perhaps having one for the first time in X number of seasons could maybe lead to greater demand? In all honesty, this is probably why I never studied marketing at uni. I'm just spitballing. It would be another way in which Burnley FC could be unique though, in the days where money dominates football.

Edit - In fact, come to think of it...didn't Barcelona do something along these lines? I think they had Unicef as their shirt sponsor for years before getting a bumper payday. Wouldn't it be great if we could have a charity as our shirt sponsor? I know it wouldn't make a lot of financial sense when there are betting companies willing to pay 'top dollar' but still...

Villa did too.

Can't give enough respect for supporting charities, in villas case it was a hospice.

That would bring more money to the hospice than any other kind of advertising.

Shame they couldn't continue

I don’t think Barca ever had shirt sponsors before the charity sponsor, which the cynic might say was done to pave the way for having paid shirt sponsorship.
