Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
He actually makes a very fair point, our target is first and foremost survival - 11 teams can achieve that (ignoring the big 6) only one can win the league, and any of the cup competitions. We started the season with a hope (not even an expectation) of survival. They started with the expectation of Silverware and Champs league qualification,
Both sides lost key performers from the previous season (for various reasons) we recruited a better striker than previous and sought to help our most creative talent, they didn't. We have a board, management, players and fans that are aligned and as a result we have over-achieved. They rarely have that but have fallen behind 3 teams that have that and one moving towards it (utd - yes really).

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
He is missing the point somewhat, and that is the budget of both teams.
Of course it is easier to not get relegated than to win a trophy or finish in the top 4 - if you are Chelsea!!
Not getting relegated is the same as a trophy or the top 4 - if you are Burnley
Success is relative and jealousy is ugly

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
Wow. What a headline.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte lays into Burnley's Sean Dyche in astonishing rant
I wonder what Dyche has done to to evoke such fury.
*reads article*
Is that it?
Here's what the Express think is an "astonishing rant".
----
“Sean is doing a great job this season – but if you start the season looking to fight to avoid the relegation zone it is more simple.
“It is simpler also if you have a small budget because you can count on a team that in the past has reached the qualification to stay in the league.
“You have to avoid the bottom three places, and then you are with ten other teams. If you have a good base and in the previous season played well, you can count on that base. You have to fight only to avoid that.”
“It is difficult if you have to play to win, because only one team wins,” he continued. “If the others don’t win, people are the first to speak about a failed season. If you don’t win the FA Cup, the League, the Carabao Cup, it is a failure season. So it is more difficult to play for these targets.
“It is more difficult when you have to go into the transfer market to win something.”
Asked if he would like to swap jobs with Dyche, who has been a target for clubs like Everton, West Ham and West Brom, Conte said: “I have in my career fought to avoid the relegation zone. I didn’t start with Juventus, I started with Arezzo, at the bottom.”

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
What he's actually said is pretty much spot on. Of course there is less pressure on a team and manager that is expected to survive rather than win. Not like the Daily Express to blow things out of proportion, I'm just surprised they never managed to shoehorn in a mention of Princess Diana.

What a load of crap, he's just making excuses in advance before we beat them again. Nobody forced him to become manager of a team with a billionaire owner who expected to win trophies.

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
Not an ‘astonishing rant’, but it is undoubtedly ********. There’s less pressure on Dyche from the fan base as we are realists, but working in a less pressured environment does not make his achievements this season any less extraordinary. What we are on course to achieve this season blows league wins with Chelsea and Juventus out of the water, not that he would ever admit that.
If we had Conte, Guardiolas, Mourinho etc in charge of our club, working with our budget and ‘lack of pressure’, does anyone really think they would get Burnley even out of the Championship let alone set for European qualification via league position? It can never be proven otherwise but I highly doubt it.

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
You say that but each of the top 6, whether they have won anything or not, will finish the season with the same manager that they stared with. Only two of the top ten have made changes.Dom wrote:What he's actually said is pretty much spot on. Of course there is less pressure on a team and manager that is expected to survive rather than win. In the bottom half however, West Brom have changed twice, Stoke once, Southampton once, Swansea once, Palace once, West Ham once, Watford.
So you are more likely to lose your job down the bottom, than near the top regardless of want Conte thinks is pressure!

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
I'd forgotten Barkley was there.with Ross Barkley, who has played only 131 minutes of football since joining from Everton for £15million at the start of the year, expected to figure.
Amusingly Conte has apparently been at loggerheads with his club about transfer funds etc, yet they've got someone like Barkley sat around warming the bench.

Self pitying drivel but it spares Sean from having to do his team talk
Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
Really? Of the 10 Premier League managers sacked this year, how many are the teams at the top who aren't winning titles, and how many are the teams at the bottom fighting relegation?Dom wrote:Of course there is less pressure on a team and manager that is expected to survive rather than win

Sounds like he needs to sit down with SD.
He could teach him about "one game at a time"

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
Fairly inoffensive what he's said.
However, i suspect he'll be getting the chance to prove his own abilities at another club next season.

The silly Italian sausage has forgotten the 'top six' is now the 'top seven'
It must be embarrassing to spend so much and turn up at Burnley hoping for a draw

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
A bit disrespectful, he's not directly saying it really hit he's belittling our achievements this season.
" If you have a good base and in the previous season played well, you can count on that base. You have to fight only to avoid that.” "
Chelsea won the league last year. How is that not a good base for success? Our improvement season on season is remarkable, especially given the losses in the transfer market and modest outlay. Also add in our injury list.
Never really liked him, never understood the media love in.
Conte by name and nature...

Re: Add Conte to the Prick List
I'd say there is more pressure because you don't have the resources of the top teams and you are more likely to be sacked if your team doesn't perform. Getting relegated is far more detrimental than just not winning the Premier league.Dom wrote:What he's actually said is pretty much spot on.
