Ashley Westwood
Superb, best player on the pitch by a mile today. Another bargain

Re: Ashley Westwood
Really would like to see him, Cork and Defour in a midfield three next season.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Absolutely outstanding today - along with JBG. Looks like Ashley was given more freedom to be expansive with the ball.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Controlled the game. A midfield three of him Cork and Defour could be very tasty

Settled in nicely.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Not that I’m disagreeing with I’m in a midfield 3 with Cork & Defour, but what formation and who drops out?
We’ve looked a lot better with 2 up top so do go to 532 (which would mean obtaining that elusive 4th CB or 433 which reduces our wing threat we’ve finally got

Re: Ashley Westwood
Got that Crewe Alexandra ethic of not giving the ball away cheaply. A very good technician. And cheap as chips, too. Good husbandry from Dyche to pick him up for such a song.

I've given you a like for using 'husbandry'. Don't hear that used often.Lord Beamish wrote:Got that Crewe Alexandra ethic of not giving the ball away cheaply. A very good technician. And cheap as chips, too. Good husbandry from Dyche to pick him up for such a song.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Westwood played well but was culpable when we almost went 2 down
Re: Ashley Westwood
Keeps the ball moving well and at decent speed. A lot of players in that role slow play down and I've been impressed with the tempo he plays at. Good signing.

I think some games we've been needing to resort to a 3 man midfield.
Games like today when Wood is a passenger it would have been beneficial to have an extra body in the middle.

It might happen if the ref couldn't count to 12.
Re: Ashley Westwood
Seriously impressive display from Westwood today, he was the pick of them alongside the ever improving Gudmundsson.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Just been able to watch the game. Yes, very impressive from Westwood and my MOTM I think. Very assured in possession (minus the rather big error that fortunately didn't lead to a goal) and a dangerous ball in for our goal.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Another tidy display. I thought Cork was excellent too, as he was against Chelsea, they’re a good foil for each other, I’m not convinced there’s room for all 3 (re: Defour). With Europa games though, there should be enough football for all of them. An occasional rest wouldn’t be a bad thing for Cork.

Re: Ashley Westwood
I don’t see why we need to be one thing or the other in terms if formation. What’s wrong with being flexible? We could quite easily go 4-4-2 against those team we can realistically get points from, and set up with a flat 3 in midfield with Cork Westwood and Defour when playing along against your top teams such as Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs. We’ve got to make these sides work for their points, and with the creativity of our wide men we could cause problems

Re: Ashley Westwood
I'd quite fancy us trying a Chelsea type system with 2 wing backs and 3 in Midfield.CoolClaret wrote:Really would like to see him, Cork and Defour in a midfield three next season.

Sort of layout could be a nice change of system for us with the midfield 3 dropping back as and when needed but more agressive in possession.
