I would of thought getting the people who murdered Stephen Lawrence convicted would of been a good thing.
Even if it was in exchange for a few people to vote for the daily mail who traditionally wouldnt

I think that was simply a cynical attempt to win the black vote. Thankfully it didn't work.
Having watched the recent documentary it seems to be because Stephen Lawrence’s father had done some work (either building or decorating) for Paul Dacre and he thought him a ‘decent chap’.

Spijed wrote:Historically black people tend to vote labour and I think it was a cynical attempt by the Mail to reach out beyond their core readership who tend to vote for the Conservative party. Why else would the paper want to run a crusade for Stephen Lawrence when it spends most of the time demonising immigrants?
Whatever it faults (and there are many) the fact is that the Mail ran a relentless campaign to bring the perpetrators to justice when no other news outlet was interested. That campaign continued for years and had a profound effect on exposing racism throughout the Metropolitan Police and society as a whole. I think your contribution to this thread says more about your own prejudices than those of the people who produce the Daily Mail.

Funny how when the Daily Mail ran this headline that was praiseworthy, and when I said it about the murder in Oswaldtwistle then that was wrong

You can't fault the Daily mail for its stephen Lawrence campaign.

It would be interesting to see if it did the same now though if we are being perfectly honest.

Anything other than a good sports section and the Stephen Lawrence investigation that the Mail has got going for it?

Does it do those cheap holidays if you collect a weeks worth of vouchers? Stuff like that?

The DM Saturday TV Guide is brilliant, and as you say, it has an excellent sports section.

I never buy a newspaper but quite often read the freebies in the bars here in Spain. To be fair to the Mail, they have been campaigning for years about the dumping of plastic material in the world's oceans, as well as their Stephen Lawrence campaign.

Everyone's been campaigning against plastic waste in the sea for years, all the Daily Mail do is claim it is their campaign and claim credit they're not due.

They did it with the plastic bag charge too.

They're shameless opportunists.

And it was a mail campaign that brought about the carrier bag charge in supermarkets. Seems they care about environmental issues

The Daily Mail's plastic campaign followed the UN Environment's campaign.

They're piggybacking on it and trying to claim credit.

Credit you gullible cretins are giving them.

So the mail campaign inspired the UN campaign?
Well done Daily Mail. It's just a shame the United Nations needed a right wing paper to show them the way

That article is dated 5 December 2017 and contains the words "The Daily Mail launched the campaign on Saturday"

The UN campaign started in February 2017

All you have proven, is that you care more about your hatred fro a newspaper than you do about the environment and the conviction of Stephen Lawrence's racist murderers.
You are typical of the modern left.

So apart from a good sports section, the stephen lawrence case, campaigning for plastic free oceans (giving them that one, or this gag doesn't work) what has the Daily mail ever done for us?

And I've proved that the Daily Mail piggybacks onto existing campaigns and claims them as their success story.

Shameless opportunists.
