Re: Motson at the Turf today
He got a mention in the match preview last night, being his last Turf Moor game. Thankfully, he'll be gone in a couple of weeks.

I'm sure he has - he's only coming this time to get his retirement gift. He's been going round all season collecting them.randomclaret2 wrote:Has he ever been before ?

He's an old driveller now but was a great commentator back in his day.

Re: Motson at the Turf today
i really like him, grown up with him being the voice of football on the BBC.
Loves the game, knowledgable, enthusiastic, what more could you want ?
When we have the dregs to contend with nowadays commentating on radio and other tv channels, it becomes clear why motson is one of the best ever.
some might prefer the squawking hackneyed newer breed of female commentaries we have foisted on us, but not me.

If by “great commentator” you mean “he used to be able to regurgitate inane and irrelevant facts, researched by his bloody Mrs and fail to give even the slightest impression he had a clue what was happening on the pitch” I agree, he was great.Rowls wrote:He's an old driveller now but was a great commentator back in his day.

I like Motty.
Re: Motson at the Turf today
Expect the ohh it's a goal, followed by a pause before naming the scorer..

Re: Motson at the Turf today
*Something very clear cut happens*
Motson: 'Oh! Well what's happened here? We'll have to see a replay of that incident'

Re: Motson at the Turf today
Well he won’t have much to commentate on
Re: Motson at the Turf today
Kick off taken, Motson; “so any early thoughts”?

If I were in charge of the BBC I'd either not bothering showing the game, or show the kiddies half time game instead.

Re: Motson at the Turf today
Can't stand the southern. I never thought this fella travelled north of Watford
Re: Motson at the Turf today
I had a lot of time for Motty until today. My son asked him for a picture before the games and he turned to him and said " do I look like i'm here to take photographs? I'm here to work and i need to get on" He is the first celeb status commentate to refuse e a picture never mind the attitude to go with it. Just to add this was at 14:20 too. Up his own arse if you ask me.

Re: Motson at the Turf today
I met Motson a few years back at Luton Town.
I was thinking he would be a nice guy and this would be an opportunity to have a chat.
How wrong I was.
Arrogant doesn’t cover it.

True that. Constantly surprised at what was happening. Even if it was incredibly mundane.1fatclaret wrote:If by “great commentator” you mean “he used to be able to regurgitate inane and irrelevant facts, researched by his bloody Mrs and fail to give even the slightest impression he had a clue what was happening on the pitch” I agree, he was great.

He's ambidextrous.
Someone I knew played him at squash and he was equally good with both arms.

Re: Motson at the Turf today
After our play off victory in 2009 in the Wembley car park he wound down his window to instruct us to move some traffic cones out of his way. My brothers managed to get a photo for the privilege but his attitude stunk nearly as bad as his commentary.

Re: Motson at the Turf today
I really don't know how you can develop such a dislike for a f***ing football commentator.
Has he not let us have a penalty either?

Re: Motson at the Turf today
We are allowed to like/dislike whoever we want to. It's a matter of opinion, like other topics on this board. Mine is, that this clown has been stealing a living for years, stating the bleeding obvious, with his observations. Years ago Barry Davies was the better commentator of the 2 (opinion), but the Beeb always favoured Motson for the bigger England games or cup ties. Good riddance!!Bin Ont Turf wrote:I really don't know how you can develop such a dislike for a f***ing football commentator.

Re: Motson at the Turf today
He is an icon of the game and so what if he’s a bit arrogant when the 94th numpty of the day tries to get a photo with him.
Re: Motson at the Turf today
Well that’s your opinion. Mine was that Barry Davies was an arrogant idiot who was the most annoying commentator. I could not stand his style and his inane personal views on countries like Italy who he was massively biased against however well they did.Claretitus wrote:We are allowed to like/dislike whoever we want to. Motson has been great for the game - he sticks to commentating on the game and saying facts about the game. Yes he has probably struggled the last couple of years but I like the fact the BBC have let him retire when he wanted rather than sack him off - shows the respect he has in the game and media.
Spoke really well about Burnley yesterday

Like or not, I do not know what Motty has done in order to be undeserving of his last round of hurrahs?
