Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
Looking at the list even in the qualifiers there is a good amount of big names as well as some weird and wonderful ones.
Out of the qualifiers hoping to play:
Aberdeen - new stadium to visit and should be excellent viewing as a 'battle of britain' and an excellent atmosphere.
Partizan belgrade - probably the craziest fans ive ever seen. The atmosphere would be unbelievable. Big club amd would be a real test.
Dinamo Brest - for no other reason than theyve just appointed Diego Maradonna as manager. Never thought id see Burnley vs Mardonna in a competetive game. That would be up there with signing gazza!

Re: Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
There was a lengthy thread about the seeding etc and someone said it seemed likely we'd get one of
Steaua Bucharest
Sparta Prague
FC Copenhagen
PAOK
Steaua Bucharest

FC Copenhagen

Re: Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
Well, Sparta would be easy, if somewhat underwhelming for me.
(I would appreciate contact from Burnley police if that draw came up as i'd be happy to share intel to avoid another Hannover situation).
The others would be nice trips

I just hope it's a game against a team with a decent enough sized ground so we can get a reasonable number of tickets.

Why would we want ''a real test'' in a qualifier? personally I want us to qualify for the Europa League.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Looking at the list even in the qualifiers there is a good amount of big names as well as some weird and wonderful ones.

I don't think Maradona is manager, I think he's the chairman unless something has changed in the past 12 hours or so.

I've had a season ticket at Sparta 2 years in the past 3.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Slavia was one of first games I went to in europe and atmosphere wasnt what i expected. Went to Sparta and always wanted to see a game there. Quirky stadium.
Unfortunately their ultras now have a habit of singing anti Jew and other racist songs and openly sieg heiling.
So yeah, I won't be back, and the police need to be ready if we get them
Re: Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
Would love to go to that ground with the cliffs behind both goals. Is it Braga?

Re: Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
These are teams we can get in our 2nd qualifying round.
We’ll be seeded for the 2nd and 3rd qualifying round for definite. The Play off round will depend on who is left but it’s pretty unlikely we’ll be seeded for it.
In Lehman’s terms, we can play a decent team until the play off round.
Id probably prefer any Scandinavian team, Cypriot team or UK opponents initially.

I''d prefer we didn't play any Nordic team early on as they will be 15-20 games into their seasons.**UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote:I'd probably prefer any Scandinavian team, Cypriot team or UK opponents initially.
As will teams from Ireland,Latvia,Estonia,Lithuania,Belarus,Moldova and Kazakhstan.
** Apart from Denmark.

I've seen this mentioned before (probably by you) and this is the thing if true to worry about the most.
It's not about who we play in terms of how good they are perceived, it's us being rusty and the opposition being already battle hardened.

It goes without saying.
I didn't think it needed 'spelling out' though

Even if Padiham F.C. were 15-20 games into their season I'd still expect to beat them.Dazzler wrote:Exactly!!

AIK or Djugardens from Sweden would be ideal for us.Dazzler wrote:I''d prefer we didn't play any Nordic team early on as they will be 15-20 games into their seasons.**

Both play at the big arenas in Stockholm that hold 30-50k, massive away allocation and it’s an easy flight from Manchester.

Fair do's..but I wouldn't be expecting to win.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote:AIK or Djugardens from Sweden would be ideal for us.

We could easiy get knocked out by famagusta. So whether its the qualifiers or the real thing i want to enjoy it by facing a proper test.

Re: Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
If I am right about how the seeds and non seeded teams are to be grouped, I expect us to get one of the lowest ranked teams in the first game - like the 3rd or 4th place finisher in Romania, Serbia or Bulgaria. A small football outpost that is hard to get to. My preference would be Rabotnicki of Macedonia who play in a 32,000 stadium (no point wishing for Aberdeen, they are ranked too high).
In the second game there is a chance we could get Vitesse Arnhem who play in the 25,000 GelreDome which is pretty cool.
In the third game, the play offs, sides who finish 7th rarely get past it. I expect us to get sides like Feyenoord, Rapid Vienna or Tel Aviv. The last two would be great to visit, Feyenoord in their 50,000 stadium would be great atmosphere.
That’s a summary of who I would like and who I expect us to get due to the rankings.

Re: Europa league qualifiers - who do you want?
Looking at the teams Everton faced last season they entered at the 3rd qualifying round against Ruzomberok (Slovakia) and in the play-offs Hajduk Split (Croatia) they qualified and we have since done the double over them so we are capable of reaching the group stage of course we have an extra round to navigate and games coming thick and fast during August if we are still in this competition,i'd be wary of disrespecting the Irish sides both Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk have reached the group stages in recent years and the Irish league is well into their season by late Summer,Scandinavian teams are usually well organised and hard to break down just the sides we struggle against, the important point is we at least make the play-offs and give ourselves a fighting chance at an extended European campaign.CrosspoolClarets wrote:If I am right about how the seeds and non seeded teams are to be grouped, I expect us to get one of the lowest ranked teams in the first game - like the 3rd or 4th place finisher in Romania, Serbia or Bulgaria.
