I fully expect Germany to still go through, but Mexico can definitely get enough points from the remaining 2 games to also qualify.

In the past I’ve associated Mexico with a slow laborious side with little attaching ideas but not now obviously, good team football now and good to watch.

Sweden can draw with that side and it could all come down to goal difference.FactualFrank wrote:I fully expect Germany to still go through, but Mexico can definitely get enough points from the remaining 2 games to also qualify.

If you saw their performances they grew into the tournament after not looking that great in the opening games.

ok, but i disagree. They scored freely in their previous four openers. And only conceded twice. I'd love Burnley to be that sluggish.gandhisflipflop wrote:If you saw their performances they grew into the tournament after not looking that great in the opening games.

Fair enough. The results you can't argue with. They get the job done and its worked.

This is being billed as a shock, but Mexico are ranked 15th and have made it through the group stage at the last 6 World Cups.

Should be a good game this. Brazil are excellent especially going forward. But miranda isnt the best centre half ever. Even by brazil ch standards.

That's average from Coutinho. He can't score form any other part of the pitch.

Re: World cup thread
Brazil excellent on the break. But id actually not be scared of facing them. Defensively vulnerable. Especially down the left where I would target them. Either stick a big, quick and physical player out on the right. (Wellbeck who is actually very good for England offers that.) Or get someone like rashford or sterling. A left side of neymar, coutinho, paulinho, marcelo and miranda offers very little defensively.
Of course theyre amazing going forwards.

Not that it means much. They all copy the first paper to report on it, the 1st to report probably made it up and claimed it was ''from unverified reports''.ClaretAndJew wrote:It's also in the Daily Mail, Fox News, French C News.

Gay people being beaten up for being gay isn't unique to Russia either. Does that mean we should ignore those crimes and declare it a great world cup "off the pitch" regardless of how many are attacked?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Yeah because thats unique to russia. Intentional or accidental.

Re: World cup thread
Yes, all traffic accidents and crime in Russia while the World Cup is on is linked directly to football fans. So if 2 Russian old women have a fight in the local library it's automatically deemed football related and the headline will be ''football hooligans clash''.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Yeah because thats unique to russia. Remember when that Liverpool fan got stabbed outside Anfield? Where were you lot complaining that stabbings aren't unique to Liverpool when people were outraged at that violence? I don't recall you having a good laugh about how all crime in Liverpool on a matchday is because of football.
It's different with some victims though, i suppose.
