Lingards decision making wasn’t good enough at times. He was unlucky when hitting the post. If it was “on target” I suspect the keeper may have stopped it. The one thing what annoyed me was when he gave Rashford a call in the 2nd half to leave it. Rashford did not knowing he was in a far better position than Lingard actually was. That was very poor imo.

Exactly, and I agree - Vardy is brilliant on the counter. But we'll be playing Panama. Do you think they'll start the game attacking? They'll sit back with every man behind the ball. Vardy won't have much room to run into and there won't be much, if any, counter-attacking.

Unless, of course, we go 1-0 up and then they have to attack. Which is why he's more suited for the bench on Sunday. Bring him on in the second half by all means when we're hopefully leading and Panama have to come at us to get something from the game.

Sorry didn’t realise you said the Panama game. The total none talk about Vardy by the “pundits” as been a little weird to me.

I agree that you need to review the weaknesses and that's why I wouldn't start the same team on Sunday. I don't think playing 10 right footed players works for a start and Young doesn't offer natural width; I'd start Rose on Sunday. Then there's Alli and Sterling... neither of them covered themselves in glory last night. Loftus-Cheek and Rashford changed the game when they came on so Southgate has a question to answer about them; do they both deserve to start. In my opinion they should because they both drive from midfield with much greater threat and purpose.

I wish they’d stop changing the laws.
I thought there was no sending off for DGSO, in the box, and the penalty became the GSO.
Wrong.

Wrong.
There's no sending off when an honest attempt to play the ball results in a foul. Deliberate handball can never be considered honest; ergo red card.

If we get through we'll be playing 1st or 2nd from this group. Columbia, Japan, Poland or Senegal.

I hope it's Columbia, that's only a small district in America. Didn't realise they were at the World Cup though.

Now that J. Rodriguez would be worth signing!

Not good enough for Real Madrid but I'm sure he'd do OK for us.

Yeah while you don't expect a red card in the opening minutes, obviously a major game changer.Good shout at the first goal, though it was fruitless in the end.

Japan have always been the best Asian team though and they were against 10 men from the start. I'm not saying lets kick all the Asian teams out, I think they should change the format and from the 2 groups of 12 in Asia, give the 2 group winners auto qualification and 2nd and 3rd from both groups added into the playoff round.

With Senegal leading at HT. Two upsets in this group could throw Englands possible KO opponent wide open. Everybody seemed to be tipping Poland or Colombia.

Just been checking the rankings. The lowest in the tournament are the hosts at 70 and only two others, Japan and Saudi Arabia, are outside the top 60 and Japan have won their first up.
I get your argument but still feel it makes for a better world cup by spreading it wide. It won’t alter the winners.

The clown comment harps back to 1973 or 74 when Clough famously dubbed the Polish ‘keeper as a clown before he went on to play brilliantly, keeping England at bay and knocking us out of the World Cup at the qualifier stage

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/24445822 report here,i didn't know the keeper had broken his wrist early in the game, but he played on till the end, reminiscent of Bert Trautmann in the 1956 FA Cup Final when he broke his neck,a different breed of men in those days.
