Liam’s voice was perfect for Oasis. They weren’t as good when he left. A lot of singers are poor but perfect for the music they’re playing. Mark Knopfler and Bob Dylan spring to mind.

nice fishing.

Oasis were an amazing band and LG a superb frontman, he had it all looks, voice , charisma ,attitude, aggression and a being a total knob tool to boot, his young voice was remarkable but declined from about 2003/4ish and it’s simply horrific now when he covers much of the Oasis stuff. The great thing about Oasis were the haters who just never got it ( who cares ?) but the way they used to seethe and hilariously call them a “ Beatles tribute band” was a joy to behold .

I hope to god they never reform or they will simply be a poor Oasis tribute .

In terms of popularity, possibly but let's be honest, as a songwriter he's spent a lot of time rehashing tunes from the last 40 odd years.

I'm under 50 and not into pre fabricated boy bands but Noel Gallagher would be well down iny list of "musician of my lifetime".

I can't think of many that have wrote over 60 hits? (Guess) He's done around 200 so it's a low estimate.

We can't argue with 3 generations adoring his music though?

People judging the quality of Liam’s singing are missing the point. Fans don’t love him because he can sing beautifully, they love him because of the way they feel when he sings. He was the voice of my teenage years and whenever he sings now it instantly transports me back to that era. Great rock and roll stars make people feel emotions they don’t feel elsewhere. Both Gallagher brothers have that status for me.

As for the OP. He’s got the wrong brother and hasn’t even had the courtesy of spelling either’s surname correctly.

My thoughts exactly. I doubt you would hear Liam proclaiming to be the best songwriter or the best singer. What he is though is somebody that gives 100% and actually connecta with his audience through his own belief in the lyrics.

For me in my generation Oasis were one of if not the best band. Liam coming back has revived the love i had for that era in my life and regardless of his voice, which I personally think is still very good although a years touring has took its toll.

Oasis.. Very good in the 90s as part of 'The Scene' at that time.. Nowadays I tire of much of their music.. Overall, there OK, but hardly music genius.

The problem with Liams vocals currently are down to the volume of gigs he's performing week in week out over the festival months. By his own admission he's only supposed to do a maximum of two gigs per week.

I saw him back in December when he stuck to the maximum of two gigs per week mantra and the only song I thought he struggled with was Some Might Say, but other that that it was a good performance. Unfortunately now though his voice sounds shredded and I'd imagine him having to drop out of a couple of gigs as his voice faulters further

Or perhaps he's just a Greedy Soul

Actually that's a very fair point.
I was watching Liam at the IOW and to be honest I don't like him and he is a dreadful singer in my opinion but many people do like him and that's okay for him. My daughter, who is 22, went to Parklife in Manchester recently specifically to see him (and she's a dance music fan not rock) but she says she thinks he is cool simply because he doesn't give a sh!t. Noel is obviously far better of the two and is a better singer but if life gives you a chance take it.
For what it's worth even though I don't particularly like him I'd sooner listen to him than Little Mix any day of the week.
Final note: someone was saying about 'if you're over 50' in an earlier post - Noel is actually 51 so that attempted put down didn't quite work did it.

Liam didn't leave Oasis either, it was Noel who left the band immediately before they went onstage at a festival gig in Paris, leaving Madness to fill in as headliners (Madness had already appeared earlier in the day at the same festival)

The over 50 comment wasn't a put down, it was just that I'm 40 so can tell which bands made it big while I have been alive. They're might have been bigger superstars about in that era.

I know mate, just joking. I think music transcends age. As I was watching Liam at IOW they kept showing the audience and it was mainly late teens and twenty something's having a ball and singing along to the songs. Conversely I'm the wrong side of 60 with a lifelong love of music and I think Ed Sheeran is bloody brilliant (although he wasn't too hot as a headliner at last years Glastonbury, the Foo Fighters showed him how to do it the following night).

Noel's latest album is very interesting and very different from anything he's done before. It's a real grower and I'm listening to it quite a lot at the moment after a relatively slow start!! The guy is an incredible song writer and his music has evolved over time.

It's easy for people to mock and suggest otherwise but we're talking about the guy who wrote Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Live Forever, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Lyla, Little by Little, Whatever, Acquiesce, Roll With It, Rock n Roll Star, Some Might Say and The Importance of Being Idle amongst countless others.

His solo albums have some serious highlights as well (Holy Mountain, If I Had a Gun, Ballad of the Mighty I, What a Life, Lock all the Doors, The Death of You and Me etc) and only go to show his diverse songwriting talent. A song like It's a Beautiful World is a completely different thing to Supersonic for example. Anyone suggesting otherwise is living in a different world to me!!

I understand people have different tastes but to just dismiss him is ludicrous. I think prog rock is the worst thing since un-sliced bread but I still admit there's the odd glimmer of light that comes through here and there!!

I can take or leave Liam, he's a character and he lives up to his rock n roll persona, but Noel is a different class and very hard to ignore!

Probably Liam is past his best, he did a great job for a while, an excellent rock and roll front-man back then. I saw Noel and his band supporting U2 at Twickenham last summer - they did a very good show.

Oasis (imo) really were top of the tree 25 years ago.. two timeless albums and I saw them at Knebworth in 1996.. 240,000 people there over two days, two and a half million people applied for tickets ( 4% of the UK population). - it really was quite amazing at that time, fair play to them and the rest of the band.

It’s easy to criticise, have a go yourself.

They've both been a load of toss for about 25 years. However, I was young too in 1994-96 so I'll always think they were great then. If that isn't your nostalgia era then I can understand wondering what the fuss was about.
