You need to edit or delete this post, because it's plain wrong.aggi wrote:Pope 3 out of 13 https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nick-po ... ler/192080" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pickford has saved 5 out of 30.
Pope's 13 penalties do not include the 5 he conceded in the League Cup, and classes an unsaved penalty as a saved one.
He's saved 2 out of 18.
The stats very very clearly favour Jordan Pickford. The Daily Mirror article is a crock of sh*t.

england do. against tunisia, ashley young ran to the bench and back to pickford to tell him which way to go and he still didn't save it.FactualFrank wrote:I do wonder if managers bother with things like that. They should, but I wonder if they do. A player who takes a penalty will have a favoured side. Some will no doubt go to the left/right 60%+ of the time, which the keeper should know.

Re: Pope possibly replace Pickford for pens
Just trying to work out Glen Murray took a penalty Nick Pope was in the nets due to his presence Murray put it wide so in that case Popes record is 1 penalty taken no goal scored. So against Brighton 100% success for Nick !!!

Very much so, you'll see keepers studying ipads, bits of paper shoved in their socks, etc to see what they may be doing. It's not just the direction, also things like the style of run-up so a player who takes a big stutter expecting the keeper to commit himself may find the keeper also delaying his dive.FactualFrank wrote:I do wonder if managers bother with things like that. Re: Pope possibly replace Pickford for pens
The article was padded out a bit by using that basic stats research, which I agree, is full of holes, but the original reason for the story was an “inside source” saying that Southgate was considering it not due to the stats, but due to Pope doing so well at saving them in training. Which of course none of us have seen.

1 out of 5 tonight, or 2 out of 5 if we credit the keeper for the penalty taker missing the target - and I believe an argument can be made to give the keeper that credit.
Pickford did well. Southgate will feel he was right to keep faith with him.

Re: Pope possibly replace Pickford for pens
interesting that eric dier said he's been practising penalties against pope as he's more difficult to beat.
