Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
superb but hasn't had to come for a cross yet which is where he struggles - top draw today though like the rest of the team
Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Shorter keepers make routine saves world class looking. A taller keeper would have got to them. What Pickford has is amazing spring in his legs. I thought he played very well today however his distribution let him down .

Incorrect. Might have shaved the bar but it was never going in. Same as the 40 yarder the other night. He's all about the camera saves.Imploding Turtle wrote:If it was going over it was doing so after smashing the bar.

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
This is so ******* dumb. So he should be letting those ones go? The ones hit like bullets that if they're on target would require reflex saves, you're saying he's spending time calculating that they're not going in and then getting a touch onto them anyway? lol. Don't be so ******* stupid.quoonbeatz wrote:Incorrect. Might have shaved the bar but it was never going in. Same as the 40 yarder the other night. He's all about the camera saves.

So many with an agenda that it's a little sad. Pick Ford has been pretty much flawless so far and like many others including the manager has gone a long way to proving why they are there.

Superb today and generally assured a slight worry about his distribution but that will improve I expect.

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
But neither of them were clearly missing the goal. The first one you whined about, v Colombia, it takes replays to see it's going barely wide. The one today even after replays i'm still not convinced it isn't thumping the bar. So how the **** can you expect a goalkeeper to know for certain in the moment that he can leave it?quoonbeatz wrote:Ones that are clearly missing the goal, yes.

I'll admit I was looking for flaws in Pickford but after that penalty save and some outstanding stops today you can't help but say he's the right man for the job.
I love Pope, but Pickford is having a great tournament.

I called him out for the columbia one but I was drunk and ****** off. You can't expect him to leave them.

To the untrained eye, maybe, but I called them both without needing replays.Imploding Turtle wrote:The first one you whined about, v Colombia, it takes replays to see it's going barely wide. The one today even after replays i'm still not convinced it isn't thumping the bar.

So you're still going with your contention that Pickford is calculating that these balls are going wide and over and deliberately putting them out for a corner just to look good. Really?quoonbeatz wrote:To the untrained eye, maybe, but I called them both without needing replays.

I agree, that’s a ridiculous suggestion. Judging where is is going from a tv screen as you follow the flight of the ball is one thing, judging it coming towards you with the bar behind you is another.Imploding Turtle wrote:So you're still going with your contention that Pickford is calculating that these balls are going wide and over and deliberately putting them out for a corner just to look good. He's got the strongest hands Ive seen in a keeper for some time and I might be wrong but sure he made a good if not great save at turf last season

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
With his performances for Everton I was concerned about how well he’d play, but I’m glad to say, with a better standard of defending in front of him he has done well, better that I expected and better than I thought Pope would do.
That said, in my opinion, Heaton would have been a better option had he not been injured early season. There’s good competition for keepers in England now, and they’re all the better for it.

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Yeah from a Barnes header, tremendous save, not helped by the defence infront of him last year, Keane, Williams and Jagielka are all awful.CBT wrote:He's got the strongest hands Ive seen in a keeper for some time and I might be wrong but sure he made a good if not great save at turf last season

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Heaton has pretty strong hands. So strong that he hurt his elbow once saving from Ibrahimovic.
Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Pickford is an excellent keeper, or he would not be there.
Played well tonight. Couple of recently saves.
Pope ..Courtois....would not even have been an issue they have the size, the arm length and the demeanour.

No, I'm saying he makes saves he doesn't need to make. Didn't matter today but against Columbia it did.Imploding Turtle wrote:So you're still going with your contention that Pickford is calculating that these balls are going wide and over and deliberately putting them out for a corner just to look good. He's doing ok this tournament but he's not done anything that any other goalkeeper wouldn't find routine.

Perhaps you can explain his penalty save or the great save just before Colombia scored. No.quoonbeatz wrote:No, I'm saying he makes saves he doesn't need to make. Didn't matter today but against Columbia it did.

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
He didn't need to make that penalty save because the next Colombian penalty taker would have hit it over anyway. That's the thing with Pickford, always making saves he doesn't have to make.taio wrote:Perhaps you can explain his penalty save or the great save just before Colombia scored. No.

Exactly, didn't need to make that wonderful penalty save that without it would have certainly put England out of the world cup. Makes saves he doesn't need to make.Imploding Turtle wrote:He didn't need to make that penalty save because the next Colombian penalty taker would have hit it over anyway. Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Penalty save was an ideal height and any goalkeeper who had been primed which way to go should have saved it. Its becoming more surprising when keepers don't stop pens now given the amount of research done. Needs to be a really good pen to score these days.taio wrote:Perhaps you can explain his penalty save or the great save just before Colombia scored. No.
The 'great save' was from a shot going at least a yard wide. Didn't need saving. However, given he's a titch, pickford feels he needs to make sure of such efforts.
Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Ok brainiac but I think its more i know a good penalty when i see one. Really wasn't a great penalty at all. Just had to go the right way and stick his arm up. Seriously, I've saved better penalties than that.taio wrote:If you think the penalty save was standard you're a complete fool.
I'd have backed any of our keepers to save it especially as they knew which way he was going to go with it.

Correct. Standard penalty save. Power and placement were lacking and the keeper knew which way to go.taio wrote:This is completely laughable. Standard penalty save.
Would have been very disappointed if he'd not saved it, as he said himself.

Re: Pickford.. Verdicts?
Some of the sh1te posted on here re Pickford utterly beggars belief . Especially people quoting stuff like “ pope or courtous etc would have saved easily as they’re taller
And their arms are longer
“
Please tell me this is fishing ? While a keeper needs to be tall per se , to think that “ taller they are more they save” ...it’s up there with “ the harder you kick it the more you’ll score” god almighty words really do fail
