It's so long since I played, but why could you get an indirect FK in the box? I'm going back to the 70's here.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:No such thing as an indirect free kick for handball so should never be awarded, you just play on if your decision is that it was accidental.
I really think that we should tape all outfield players' arms to their side and watch them play like subbuteo figures and that may alleviate the problem.

Obstruction and dangerous play, basically. And the goalkeeper taking more than four steps, but that was enforced about as often as the current one of the goalkeeper holding onto the ball for more than six seconds. Also offside, but that was only in your own box of course, not the attacking box.boatshed bill wrote:It's so long since I played, but why could you get an indirect FK in the box? Cheers for that, for some reason i thought it applied to accidental hand ball back in the sixties (showing my age here)dsr wrote:Obstruction and dangerous play, basically. Oh. I thought when he said he was going back to the 70s he was referring to when he last played.dsr wrote:instead of being a smart alec, why not just say what the obvious 1970's indirect free kick was that I have missed?

Nope, never.boatshed bill wrote:Cheers for that, for some reason i thought it applied to accidental hand ball back in the sixties (showing my age here)
The refs were a lot less likely to give handball for non-intentional but "hand in an unnatural position" handballs in those days. There was one that (I think) Keith Newton gave away at the Turf when he jumped and turned his back on a cross and the ball hit his arm, well stretched out away from his body at head height. It would certainly be a penalty now, but there was a fair bit of surprise that it was given then.

My memory isn't too great, I kept goal for various standards of teams from the late sixties onwards. What I do recall is having to put up "walls" in the box to defend indirect freekicks on a regular basis, certainly in my earlier daysdsr wrote:Nope, never.
