Yeah, we have a great team and those lads deserve some help to maintain their PL status and wages

Show some belief in what we have, and what we have achieved.
We have let a lot of players leave though and haven't replaced. At present our squad isn't as good as last seasons.

This is a long thread so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but we are one of only two teams in the Premier League yet to make a signing this summer (the other is Spurs). I don't think our actual dealings are poor at all but we're perhaps overly cautious in our approach and have too small a list of targets. Mind you, as long as we end up getting the players we want, I guess it doesn't matter too much. It would have been nice to get a few in early though as a good pre-season can obviously be a big plus.

Agree our transfer dealings haven’t been poor, just non existent.
Clearly we have a very small pool of players we are interested in and can’t see this changing anytime
Soon.

Would prefer we sign nobody than pay £40 million for Dawson and JayRod who wouldn't automatically start.

Our issues is our stupidity at looking at wages as an obstacle rather than evaluating the overall cost over the contract. Unfortunately our rigidity will be our downfall. We are as good as we can get for what we will pay.

I'm pretty sure BFC look at the overall cost of a player.
But I'm sure they also take player morale into consideration too.

At present our team is the same as last season more or less...with the exception of arfield?

Not really no. Nkoudou returned, Marney left, Defour is likely to play less and less games through injury and there's the Ben Mee contract situation. I'd also say there's question marks on how good Ward will be this year, as he looked half the player after getting injured. I wouldn't say the team is significantly worse but I'd say it's worse off than last year at the moment. I'm not even a doom and gloomer, I think we will make the signings needed. I'm trying to be realistic in where it leaves us if we don't though.

and we signed an ex con troublemaker like Barton and how did he turn out? He didn't put a foot wrong and was arguably our best player in the promotion year. This talk about character is boring really and just excuses.

You raise valid points,in addition Brady and Heaton are returning from lengthy absences, and we don't yet know whether they will break down again, and the hectic start to the season could test our strength in depth,i'm sure we will get bodies in the building,it's a question of holding our nerve in this loony market.

There's always worry about a player's ability to keep his form, funny how so few fans anticipate a player's liklihood to improve:
So I expxct JBG, Tarks, Charlie Taylor, Kevin Long, Chris Wood, Aaron lennon, Jeff Hendrick, Matt Lowton and Nick Pope to improve this season.
No harm in a bit of optimism

He answered that for me fairly perfectly.
