We’ve spent loads of money in the past 3 or 4 seasons. The board made our manager one of the highest paid in the country. Why would they do that if they were happy to be in League 1 making a profit?Denno97 wrote:No evidence apart from our lack of spending. £50 million on Gray and Keane brought in last year. £120 million tv deal. Yet we’re being told we don’t have the money to spend to compete on the transfer market compared with other foreign owned club. Just doesn’t add up to me. Also I don’t understand why people don’t want Burnley to have the ability to sign better players and have more of a chance to stay in the premier league.?

Re: Foreign Investment
Hi Denno, "£50 million" is a lot more than Burnley got when Gray and Keane were sold. MK was reported as £25 - and, maybe, rising to £30 with add-ons if Everton do well - which they haven't, as yet. Andre Gray was sold to Watford for £18 million (tops) and Brentford had a sell-on of, I think, 25% - some of which was paid on to Luton (who provided all the details at the time).Denno97 wrote:No evidence apart from our lack of spending. £50 million on Gray and Keane brought in last year. £120 million tv deal. "£120 million tv deal" - but at least £80 million of the tv money is required to oay the wages of the players (and all other staff) through 2017/18. Yes, £80 million is my estimate. The accounts reported £61 million for 2016/17 - and then we signed new players and signed new contracts with a number of players, plus Sean Dyche (and, I expect, coaching staff).
There was a thread on mb early in the year, Jan/Feb time, when one of the papers had reported Burnley in discussion with possible investors. (Someone who is adept at searching may find it).
Mike Garlick and John B - as largest 2 shareholders - will decide if/when they think it's the right time to bring in new investors.
If you were a shareholder would you be selling out now, or who you be trying to get another good season in the Premier League - plus Europe - and demonstrate to any potential new investors how Burnley can become an established Premier League club?

Re: Foreign Investment

Three England International departing the club for @£37 million is not good business. Never mind the circumstances and that one was not yet a full international. Gray an exception. Austin. We didn't get enough.

Who have we sold too cheaply?Stayingup wrote:![]()
We sell too cheaply in my opinion. Gray was an exception.

It will be a dad day, when our small town, local club, owned and run by local people, becomes just like all the rest.

Re: Foreign Investment
If you have a great scouting team combined with a top coaching team then you can compete at any level , all premier league players start off at the bottom and develop at clubs before being sold for silly money , at the moment we are doing well at getting bargains then turning them into internationals

Hi Stayingup, who are your "three England internationals?"Stayingup wrote:![]()

Michael Keane, yes, capped while a Burnley player. I think we sold for £25 million - with prospect of add-ons.
Kieran Trippier? Great world cup for England, but first cap some time after leaving t'Turf. Release clause £3.5 million - but, if we hadn't agreed the "modest" release clause, I'd expect he wouldn't have signed a new contract and stayed through 2014/15 season in Premier League.
Danny Ings, left out-of-contract - and we rec'd £7 million (maybe more, if reports we have sell-on are proved correct), first cap after leaving Turf Moor.
Charlie Austin?
Jay Rod?
Great to see that we are adding to our register of internationals, England and other countries. Who would have thought any of this could be happening even a few years ago?

That deal has been ongoing for months but still not done. Did the 4th richest man in Asia break his leg in an FA Cup FInal?MRG wrote:It is being reported that the 4th richest man in Asia was at the Wigan game yesterday and he is close to a takeover of Wigan.
Are Wigan any more attractive than we are? Do we get similar approaches and knock them back? Have Wigan actively sought them out and if so, could that be an option for us?
