Well thats where most of us are going to be!!! Its the transport after the match im most bothered about any way. Official transport will probably have us setting off 4 hours before the game.

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
I'm not surprised by this. Gutted I can't make it this week as I love Istanbul. However, on the meeting point, Taksim is really near to Besiktas stadium (10 min walk) and is a known flash point in the City for violence (not football related). Easier to set up a supporters meeting point well away from there.

Burnley fans will be strongly advised to avoid Taksim Square and I suggest that's where most of you shouldn't be.Granny WeatherWax wrote:Well thats where most of us are going to be!!! Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
The problem with Taksim Square is that it’s pretty close to Besiktas’s ground who are obviously playing on the same night.

There are staff going out tomorrow and I think it will all be confirmed after that. I don't think it has been as easy as dealing with Aberdeen.deanothedino wrote:I was of the understanding that they won't know until some of the club staff get there tomorrow.

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
Not sure if you meant it to come across this way but insinuating it isn’t safe and scaring people isn’t the best thing to write CT especially with probably the majority of Burnley fans staying in that district.ClaretTony wrote:Burnley fans will be strongly advised to avoid Taksim Square and I suggest that's where most of you shouldn't be.

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
I'm not coming across any way, or didn't intend to, the info given is strongly advising Burnley fans not to congregate in Taskim Square. This is why the ticket collection point is being moved to a different area. I'm not saying it isn't safe, but it is, I believe, a security measure.1989_claret wrote:Not sure if you meant it to come across this way but insinuating it isn’t safe and scaring people isn’t the best thing to write CT especially with probably the majority of Burnley fans staying in that district.

My response was really a way to imply that the answer you gave to the original question was self-evident.ClaretTony wrote:Not sure how else I'm supposed to reply. I don't know where it is and the last I was told, the club were trying to get a hotel confirmed.
I.e. how can you name the hotel when the hotel when the name of the hotel is not yet known. Should be obvious!

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
Hi tony thanks for the update.
The club have been very slow to provide any information about this trip. They went other to Istanbul over a week ago. I find it amazing that hiring a hotel meeting room is proving so difficult to distribute tickets,or that the location of that room should be such a closely guarded secret.
Ive booked a hotel as close to the stadium as possible. Its refundable. If locations and transport details were published i could cancel and move to a different location.
I bet the team hotel and travel arrangements were arranged more quickly.

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
I am sure that it wont be the same as Aberdeen - all in a square with flags and footballs. But it will be fine. But no reason we cant or shouldn't go there. Taksim Square is a major tourist spot in Europes biggest city.ClaretTony wrote:It's the Turkish authorities that have confirmed they don't want Burnley fans there.
Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
Ah Taksim Square - that's where those Leeds fans got stabbed to death isn't it.
Sounds an ideal place to meet when 2 of the city's teams are playing

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
And yet I understand a Burnley contingent was in Istanbul last week so why not confirm meeting point and ticket collection hotel last Friday at same time match tickets went on sale? Would have made choice of hotel location far easier knowing that detail in advance. If Turkish authorities are saying they don’t want Burnley fans in Taksim square they must have surely told the club that last week so why wasn’t that passed on sooner?ClaretTony wrote:There are staff going out tomorrow and I think it will all be confirmed after that. That’s directed at the club Tony not you! I realise you are simply passing on what the club is saying and I thank you for that.

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
How hard would it have been to straight away when tickets are released to let people know it’s advisable to avoid Taksim square?
It’s a tourist hotspot so predictable that many would view that as a decent place to base themselves.

Posted this in the shuttle bus thread but thought I was replying to this one
I would gather in taskim square anyway, stick together and it will be fine, thats where the main drinking area is so unless you are looking for a fun alcohol free trip you will most likely end up there anyway

Yes there is Besiktas match same day. But Besiktas fans always gather at Besiktas. I bet propaply you wont see any of them at Taksim. More possible to see Linz fans.
Taksim square safe? I really dont see any problem there. It is a popular meeting point but also there are many civilian polices around there

Re: Meeting point for Burnley fans is NOT Taksim Square
Very much doubt any Bestikas will be in Taksim even though its' near their place. They also won't have the slighest interest or likely even know were playing. It's full of tourists at this time of year and as safe as any city centre square. Taxis are easy to get to the ground and back to you can book returns at hotels and shuttle buses all over, though about £25 ish to the ground.Taksm square is nowt special at all though but loads places to eat and a fair few to drink. Loads of locals will be about but they wont be after aggros unless people are beered up and asking for it. Loads of plainclothes police as well ,not to mention prossies . I've never heard of Linz tbh though again cant see them being that bothered by a team playing a team they barely belive should exist! Gutted cant make it but hope a safe trip is had by all.
