Not strong enough though.. We are going to spank them and send them home with their irons between their legs.. In the hole ..
Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
Peter Fonda is hoping to win it for them.

USA add:
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau have been chosen as wildcard picks for the United States team.
We name ours at 14:00 hrs tomorrow.
Pleased to see Woods and Mickelson brought in. It will weaken their team.

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
Woods and Lefty have an average Ryder Cup record at best,DeChambeau is the new kid on the block but his recent wins will give him belief.
I'd make Europe marginal favourites partly due to home advantage, and also they will bond more as a team, lots of egos in the USA line-up.

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
When Tiger was at his best, he didn’t care for The Ryder Cup however, now he sees it as a real challenge and was very keen to make the team this year having been involved in a non-playing capacity last time out.
I think the USA team is very strong and Woods’ inclusion now is a strength rather than a weakness.

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
It's possible Tiger has matured with age and now values the chance to represent his nation, certainly his demeanour in recent tournaments has been more humble, this is the toughest Ryder Cup to predict for many years, both sides have experience but also upcoming youngsters, lots of pressure on the captains to pick the right pairings for the first 2 days.Cheshireclaret wrote:When Tiger was at his best, he didn’t care for The Ryder Cup however, now he sees it as a real challenge and was very keen to make the team this year having been involved in a non-playing capacity last time out.

The event can only be stronger with Woods presence, advertisers will definitely welcome it.

Glad they picked Woods ahead of Finau.

Agree with that re Tiger. It wouldn't surprise me if he puts in his best Ryder Cup performance.tiger76 wrote:It's possible Tiger has matured with age and now values the chance to represent his nation, certainly his demeanour in recent tournaments has been more humble, this is the toughest Ryder Cup to predict for many years, both sides have experience but also upcoming youngsters, lots of pressure on the captains to pick the right pairings for the first 2 days.

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
Tiger has been a liability in the past but I agree he is looking more chilled these days....who knows he may even gel with mick......to me these look the strongest teams both have fielded to date....its going to be a hell of a battle....punting wise I will be backing europe as we are normally strong early in four balls and foursomes....can take a juicy profit if/when we lead....something I have noticed over the years is that a lot of good ryder cup performers struggle to win pga tour events....players such as kuchar...casey....westwood...etc etc....on that basis Tony Finau might be worth a speculative bet in a few markets....always around the top 10 without getting the job done.

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
What's the best Ryder Cup you've watched?
For me it was the "Miracle at Medinah". My dad was the biggest golf fan I ever knew. I'd walk in on Monday and he'd be re-watching the highlights of the Thursday to Sunday that had just gone.
But the Ryder Cup in 2012 was exciting, even if you didn't like golf. It was like watching England in the World Cup even though you weren't really a football fan.
Fantastic stuff. And Tiger Woods at the end? You just couldn't write it.
I no longer watch golf, due to missing my Dad. It just doesn't feel right. But let's have a really close final - going down to the last putt!

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
Which one was it when Poulter just kept holing those putts? that was amazing....as was the game when Rose beat Mick....so many amazing games and the shots they play in the ryder cup are often not seen when they play stroke play

That might have been 2012 as well. Europe were on their backsides but came back from nowhere.happyclaret17 wrote:Which one was it when Poulter just kept holing those putts? that was amazing....as was the game when Rose beat Mick....so many amazing games and the shots they play in the ryder cup are often not seen when they play stroke play

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
I think it was....seriously good teams this time....glad Casey got a pick....unlike when Monty was captain and he picked his mate harrington who was rubbish all week....we would have destroyed usa that ryder cup if casey had been picked....monty got captaincy at the best possible year but he nearly messed it up....I cant do with listening to that fool....when he closes his eyes as he is speaking just annoys me.....he always harps on about winning the ryder cup but he got just about the fewest points we could have got thanks to the old pals act.

It just has to be 2012! Incredible stuff. Sport at its absolute best. As you say, even if you didn't like golf.FactualFrank wrote:What's the best Ryder Cup you've watched?

The point Poulter got at the end of the Saturday gave Europe some hope and belief that they could do the impossible. And they did!

Yep, Medinah 2012.... when Poults won the Houston Open earlier this season it was with the very same Medinah putter... taken out of storage. Expect it will also be used at Le Golf National

Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
Runner-up on 5 occasions, arguably the best player never to win a major.FactualFrank wrote:I don't think he ever won a major?
He never won a major. At the 1992 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, Jack Nicklaus prematurely congratulated him for winning, but Monty wound up third. After running out of every logoed shirt except a black one — his only matching pants were navy blue — he melted and shot 78 in a Monday playoff with Ernie Els and Loren Roberts at the ’94 Open at Oakmont. He lost on the first hole of sudden death to Steve Elkington at the ’95 PGA at Riviera, missed a five-foot putt on 17 to finish a shot behind Els at the ’97 Open at Congressional, and had a hand on the trophy only to double-bogey the 18th from the middle of the fairway and lose the 2006 Open at Winged Foot.
Out of those Winged Feet must rankle him the most,he had his destiny in his own hands and couldn't complete the victory.
Re: USA Ryder Cup Team
Surprised he wont be there in September.
Monty is usually a pundit at the Ryder Cup for Sky Sports but wont be there this year because he couldn't agree 'terms' with the broadcaster. Hes playing in a seniors event in California instead.
