3rd round draw, god forbid we get drawn against...
...anybody at all.
Imagine if we were drawn against the likes of Blackburn or Leeds or Macclesfield, it doesn't bear thinking about.
Ugly ugly boring negative 'football', no heart, no passion.
Anyway, have a nice evening.

The one team I'd have no fear about facing is Rovers. Despite our recent exits against lower league teams SD knew the game against Rovers in the league cup last season was important and treated it as such. We subsequently wiped the floor with them.morpheus2 wrote:...anybody at all.

I suspect if we gave an under par performance against Rovers he would realise that many more supporters would turn against him, possibly with no going back.

Its nowhere near the magnitude of what Olympiakos was. Or what 38 premier league games are.Spijed wrote:The one team I'd have no fear about facing is Rovers. A 3rd round defeat to Blackburn would be far more fatal than Olympiakos or relegation. If we draw Blackburn and lose it's over for Dyche, and I say this as someone who totally 100% backs him right now. Pride matters more than what would otherwise be considered reasonable when you're losing week-in, week-out.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Its nowhere near the magnitude of what Olympiakos was. Jesus, who gives a monkey's about who we draw in the cup? Don't you think we have rather more pressing problems?

A 3rd round fa cup game against blackburn is nowhere near as important as that olympiakos game was.Spiral wrote:A 3rd round defeat to Blackburn would be far more fatal than Olympiakos or relegation. Its a one off game, against a team we are far superior too and have been for ten years in a cup the club amd most fans dont give a toss about.
Today was a bigger game than what that would be.
To say a defeat to blackburn in the cup would be more fatal than relegation is massively overegging it.
Re: 3rd round draw, god forbid we get drawn against...
Mate, you're confusing consequence with tenability. I was talking about the fatality of Dyche's tenure, not BFC as a whole. An FA cup tie is, of course, inconsequential in the grand scheme and league standings obviously have greater consequence for the club, but if one were to be realistic about the nature of football fans a humiliating defeat to Blackburn in the midst of this almighty slump would be far more fatal to Dyche than Olympiakos (as evidenced by the support he had after the home game) - and I'd even say relegation. Honestly, an East Lancs derby is the last thing we need right now.

We need to play the U23 team.At least we would see a bit of passion and a rare cup win
Re: 3rd round draw, god forbid we get drawn against...
I'd probably rather draw someone like City again so it's not humiliating when we get the inevitable defeat. I wouldn't fancy us against a League 2 outfit at present.

I do hope we can have a decent run in the fa cup this season. If we draw a lower league side we need to adapt our style rather than set up like we do in the PL.

Bradford away looks a decent draw. Short train journey with plenty of drinking places to make a day of it.

One thing to bear in mind is that we will eventually lose to Rovers at some stage.
The funniest thing about beating them was their complete meltdown to something that can easily happen in a football match as they had convinced themselves that we'd never be better than them.
Lets not go down that route eh?

Used to look forward to this. Was a big date in the calender when we were pap (we're pap in a different way nowadays ha) . Now I dread it. Doesn't matter whether its Man City or Macclesfield. Get beat by City and its a given, get beat by a Macclesfield and its embarressing. I'd like a cup run but let's face it we've been poor in the cups under Dyche. I just have no confidence in us in the cup games. Shame.

I'm glad you pointed out that possibility mate because I was just going to. Home or away it would definitely not be easy given the respective forms. Okay Stanley have slipped up in the last couple of games in the league but they have shown heart, skill and determination all season. I honestly wouldn't put money on us if we drew them.Hendrickxz wrote:Stanley away anyone?

I accept our poor situation however still believe in the manager. I’d sooner he figure out a better strategy and player selection and then move forward.houseboy wrote:You sound like the knight in Monty Python shouting 'come back and fight you coward' when he has no limbs left. Exeter v. Burnley
I don't want this, it's just a wild guess. I usually guess about 2 fixtures out of the hat. Not bad, all things considered.

Re: 3rd round draw, god forbid we get drawn against...
True, but do you think he actually HAS a plan? I'm not so sure. I truly want him to continue for the time being as he has been fantastic for the club but there comes a time when questions have to be asked and I think that time is now. I have said many times give him till February when he has (hopefully) had some decent spending money off the board and a chance to bed them in and see what happens. I'm not into knee jerk reactions but if nothing has changed after the window by February then it will be clear that after two windows and 12 months that a constant downward spiral will be unnacceptable. We have been poor/awful for nearly a year now and that cannot continue. No-one can live on past glories, where does it end? Loyalty is all very well but if Dyche has somehow lost the plot then how long do we give him before we say sorry, enough is enough?LoveCurryPies wrote:I accept our poor situation however still believe in the manager. Improvement (majorly) by February or he should go. That would be fair.

So if a lower league team hit a jackpot and they are drawn against a top premier league side away they make more money from that away game than their entire season (or in some cases several season).
Away teams have a right to 15% of home team's stadium capacity for its supporters and 15% of disabled allocated area seats too.
To satisfy FFP it's all about turnover - and this can be done by selling players, improved gate receipts or earning more in merchandise etc - so a decent Cup run can be crucial for some clubs ............ buying & trading wise too."
