Betting on Burnley to lose
Betting on Burnley to lose
For the first time ever I bet on us to lose, well actually West Ham win both teams to score did it in a four fold and cashed out to win £250 which is just as well as I had Oxford to beat Scunthorpe which ended up being a draw
My question is it wrong to bet on your team to lose ?

Just go with your gut instinct. Speaking of cashing out ,I cashed out early and it cost me £80.

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
Don't see anything wrong with it.

It’s always a tough call , worked for me yesterday but has cost me in the pastslw wrote:Just go with your gut instinct. Speaking of cashing out ,I cashed out early and it cost me £80.
£500 up on the season so far so can’t complain UTC
Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
I don't like betting on us to win, as it's a double kick in the ******** if we lose. Backing us to lose would have the opposite effect I suppose

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
Afternoon Joey. The first rule of betting it to never bet on your own team to win, as it often ends in tears.
So like you, if I do include Burnley in a bet it's to lose. That way, you either win money or Burnley win/draw.

I would imagine the odds are pretty Sh!te. With forthcoming Leicester game they will probably be 1/3 to beat us so no value at all unless part of an odds on accumulator.

Leicester are currently 1/2 to win. I only bet if I disagree with the odds, but like you say, they aren't the best.Jamesy wrote:I would imagine the odds are pretty Sh!te. With forthcoming Leicester game they will probably be 1/3 to beat us so no value at all unless part of an odds on accumulator.
Burnley 6/1. The value ironically is probably more in that bet.

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
I'm a big rugby union fan and I will quite often bet on the opposition to beat England. Not a massive amount. Usually a tenner depending on the odds.
It's a win/win .... if England win I'm too happy to be bothered about losing £10 but if they lose I have £30 or £40 in my pocket so feel better about it.
It also makes watching a close game in the closing minutes less stressful

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
I usually avoid betting on us completely, whether it's to win or draw. Don't see anything wrong in backing us to lose really though.
Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
Usually avoid betting on us however 10/11 on Chelsea HT Chelsea FT represented reasonable value last week for a treble (which Arsenal spoiled!)

Bet with your head, not your heart.
Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
If I hadn’t have cashed out yesterday I would have lost £250Tall Paul wrote:No, but it is wrong to cash out.
Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
Lets face it , if you have been betting on Burnley to win in the last year or so you'd be pretty skint.
Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
That doesn't stop it from being wrong.joey13 wrote:If I hadn’t have cashed out yesterday I would have lost £250
If I offered you 2/1 on a coinflip and you lost/I won, I'd still have been wrong when I offered it.

That’s just blown my mindTall Paul wrote:That doesn't stop it from being wrong.

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
You could be right cashed out to early on the Chelsea game , still picked up £170 could have been £300 if I had kept my nerve , still I’m not complainingTall Paul wrote:That doesn't stop it from being wrong.

I wonder what the odds will be for us to get a penalty.. We are well overdue one.. Might be worth a tenner if the odds are decent.. Hmmm

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
Not something I’d do to be honest. But backing us to lose is somewhat better than what some supposed fans have to say after a defeat.joey13 wrote:For the first time ever I bet on us to lose, well actually West Ham win both teams to score did it in a four fold and cashed out to win £250 which is just as well as I had Oxford to beat Scunthorpe which ended up being a draw

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
The last time I bet on a Burnley match I had us down to win 3-0 against York.
We won 6-0 but the bookies wouldn't pay out, never mind double.

Betting will cost you money.
Betting on your own team should cost you more, to act as a deterrent!

Why not? Stockbrokers do it all of the time. I think they're called hedge funds.

Re: Betting on Burnley to lose
I bet £50 on Fulham to win @ 2/1. It was with Skybet which means I could have got better odds with any other bookies in the land, but hey-ho.
They pretty much battered us in the reverse fixture and I really dislike someone who is a Fulham fan. It was worth losing £50 for 3 points.

I bet on us not to go up in the Championship, cos there was an outside chance 'Boro and Brighton could pip us. Money well spent. I also bet bet £100 at 20/1 we'd go down the first season we stayed up (under SD). No brainer. We stay up - result! We go down - £2k softens the blow.

Burnley should be the easiest subject for you to bet on. You're aware of when the team is playing well, injuries and bogey teams etc..

I placed £50 EW on Burnley with Coral for the Championship the day after we signed Andre Gray.
Coral price 50/1 when other bookies went 33/1.

Although I've never done it I've always said it's the way to perfect betting happiness - either your team wins or you win money - what's not to like. Don't get caught up in morality. Stick a fiver on us to lose and draw and if we win you pay a tenner for 3 points.
