Surprise to see Fowler released. Comfortably the leading scorer at youth level, plus played and scored a few for U23s. Also had excellent and goalscoring loan stints away from the club.

One or two surprises there as some names on that list frequently seemed to get excellent reviews in the post match write ups. Fowler, as already said, definitely being one.

One or two surprises for me - Fowler definitely being one, more so given what Steve Stone said about him recently.

He hasn't scored a few for the u23s though - he's started once and made one sub appearance and scored just the one goal against Bolton. I was surprised he wasn't being given more opportunities in the u23s but now we know why.

Hope they all get fixed up with new clubs.

Would you think that Fowlers exit has anything to do with the form of Richardson at all possibly or could it be that there is others lined up to come in next year? Or is it just that they didn't think he was good enough /the right fit?

Either way hope they all get fixed up somewhere or go on to do other things they enjoy.

They obviously rate Richardson highly but Fowler will be 18 by the end of the season so would be going into the u23s next season. Those involved in the decision making will have to decide whether he's good enough to step up into that team but also whether they feel in the future he will be good enough to reach our first team or, if not, be good enough to bring us a fee for him that makes keeping him worthwhile. All a surprise though given what Stone said about him recently, that one day he would likely be sold for big money.

Is it possible that Fowler has turned down a contract and has an offer from another club?

Surprised about Fowler being released,i'd have thought a league 2 club would have shown interest,f he'd been retained and then gone out on loan next season and scored goals at that level, our chances of attracting suitors would have increased, but the coaches see these players day in day out, clearly they know more than we as fans do.

I wonder if we are eyeing up snapping up youngsters released by the big city clubs again, ala McNeil, and that's why these 8 have been let go.

I think it's been said on here the U16s, who I presume will step up this time, are the most talented youth team the club has had in years.

Lets hope they keep progressing.

These lads leaving are 18 though, McNeil has been at Burnley since he was 14.
