Preferred lagers/ales on the Turf?

Unashamedly stolen from Facebook, but figured it was worth posting on here for opinions on the current options and preferred, not that the club will listen:

“The ’pouring rights’ at Turf Moor are currently held under contract by Carlsberg, which you may have noticed. They have a wide selection of product but give football fans the cheap(to them) stuff.

Who would you prefer the club to contract with next, given the choice?

Also, would you like to see the introduction of some proper ales in the ground instead of just the gassy lagers?

Along with Diageo (owner of Guinness), these (pictured) are the mega breweries with UK plants.

There are also the national breweries such as Marston’s, Greene King and Wells & Young.”

Considering they work so closely with Bowland (fan zone & the awards night) I’m surprised they don’t serve it inside the ground

If they did I might start to get a half time pint

Carlsberg have the current “pouring rights” inside the ground, so they can’t. Contract is up for renewal though I believe.

As much as I like to meet mates at half time it’s horrible. You enter a concourse too packed, a long queue, and then have 8 minutes to down a gassy lager, so I end up paying £4 for half a bottle at best. A nice ale would go down a treat.

Carlsberg is without doubt, the WORST lager in the world bar none.

I have a choice, so I choose to not drink it, it's that bad. Carlsberg or nowt? Nowt thanks.

Almost ANYTHING would be preferable to Carlsberg.

I haven't had a beer on the Turf for 4 or 5 years.

It's rancid stuff. But it saves me a fortune over the season. If they put Sam Miguel or Peroni on I would be tempted

But from the club point of view, profit and speed are the main priority. That is probably at peak selling cheap lager in plastic bottles with twist off caps.

I wouldn't entertain Carslberg, Carling, Fosters or any of that sh1te that shouldn't be classed as lager.

It would be nice to see Moorhouses be allowed to stick a few on (Premier League etc.)

Personally I'm into German Wheatbeers so I think it'll be a lonnngg time before that would be a reality

Moorhouses would be great. The current stuff is absolutely awful. Bowland Brewery is not much better.

Prefer Bowlands tbh. Moorhouses are trying to cash in on the craft beer fad but they don't know what they're doing. I remember when moorhouses tried supplying the fan zone, looked amateurish

The problem with cask and craft ales, in venues like that, is that it won't keep from one week to
another without being used. It needs constant use/change to maintain it's properties and quality. There would be a
lot of wastage or sh!t pints being pulled.

Unlike lager, which is sh!t at any time or at any location or at any interval of usage (IMO of course)

But, they should concentrate firstly on getting hot water flowing through the hot taps in the bogs. Health
and safety and all that.

Chris Gibson who runs the fan zone and is in charge of this side of BFC has posted on Facebook.

“Hello all, as the man in charge of “the negotiations” just thought I would come in peace with a few comments/questions...
We have tried real ales in the concourse areas previously ( Bob lord and Ladbrokes stand) a couple of years ago, the wasted beer made it prohibitive to keep going. We have no opportunity to sell the next day like a local pub. I am all for offering an increased range of products, however it simply can’t cost us money to do.
The fanzone is a different matter, and I feel that Bowland offer a good local real ale in there boat pre and post match at realistic prices, (£2.50-£3.00 a pint)
Are people aware that standard Carlsberg lager is now no more. The new beer ( Carlsberg Pilsner) is now being widely distributed with the old product no longer in production. This isn’t just a re-brand, it is a completely new beer...
I am aware that the Carlsberg we sell hasn’t been the most popular product, and we do have a choice of products/brewers going forward, ( without going into too much detail)
What would really help us make a decision would be to see which product a decent cross section of fans preferred.
If I were to hold a tasting of a couple of beers would any of you be interested enough to come and give us your opinion??
I also take on board the ipa comments.

From the practical / realistic options you could easily see them going for Carling/Caffreys

As a leftfield option, could they go for an alcohol free version. You would have to make it universal, but it would have the added benefit of being able to drink it in your seat....

Come to think of it do what a few have always done, bring a flask full of what ever you fancy and drink it unhurried ..a damn sight cheaper as well

Everything that is wrong with the small, narrow-minded attitude that exists at BFC can clearly be seen in quite a few of the comments above. Long term they really do need to start thinking outside the box. If that pub by the corner is still for sale then buy it and refurbish the damn thing, so that fans can use it. And/or when they eventually get around to building a new stand which hopefully will incorporate better facilities then have a bar in there that is open to the public 7 days a week. They need to be looking at income streams that are none football related.

Afternoon Corky. The thing about the club opening a bar 7 days is a week, is even though it will make money, it's chicken feed compared to what the club make from Sky. It's like earning a 6 figure income and topping it off with a Sunday morning paper round.

Yeah, I think your point about the pub across, used to be called The Lounge is a decent idea. Not made for (much) profit, but like you say a social/sports club for fans. Maybe football clubs can't own pubs?

Moorhouses in bottles? Tins of craft beer? It doesn't have to be hand pulled to be better than a 40p can of John Smiths undrinkable bitter sold for 4 quid.

They's shift a few more beers if they had one person dedicated to doing the opening/pouring too.

So maybe it’s a future proofing project? Buy the pub and convert whilst we have the money, knowing full well it won’t last forever. When we are then without the Sky income in a few years we’ll have a club bar (call in something club related) that can be our fan zone on match days, but an income as a pub/food location on other days.

Okay, the pub didn’t make a do in later life, which could have been trend shifting, but I’m sure the owners had a part to play. If it was club themed with a USP then you’d have kids wanting their birthdays there after a ground tour etc. Convert the upstairs for that specific purpose maybe?

I wonder how Brighton cope with their bitters. They normally have a few on at the ground (admittedly their "concourse experience" is considerably better than Burnley in general).

Just looking at the drink on offer at the new Spurs ground.

and there still isn't a huge range. Beavertown is part owned by Heineken and brewed just up the road so not surprising to see that there. I'd say it's a big step above Carlsberg but not everyone will agree.
