Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
I agree. i dont like foster full stop - he's not a striker that's going to get us up
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
Same again I'm talking about premier League tactics not championship just nothing football no threat or willingness to bloody shoot that was absolutely dire , and I want better than that and if sp doesn't make changes and we don't win I will be massively pi##ed off
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
I can appreciate that, especially when we're playing this slowly. I would prefer Flemming, as well. I just thought the level of slagging off he was getting was excessive.willsclarets wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 3:57 pmI don't mind his work in the box, but his movement inbetween defenders is awful. He plays to his weakness, which is to show short with his back to goal. So many times we turn it over when he mis-controls it. He's great running towards goal, it just doesn't happen enough.
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
We rely on our pace up front and can't use it when teams pack their defence. If we don't score early on to draw them out it becomes a slog.
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
To give VK some credit, he was always brave enough to change things if they weren't working, quickly and often. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not but he always had a go.
I hope SP is similarly brave, hopefully changes at the break. Some ego's need bruising today.

We were crap in more than just them games - Rotherham both games we were poor, just had Benson to dig us out with moments (happened quite a lot).
The period where we really started to dominate was the Blackburn game onwards

It's also really to see who has a clue about football when we play teams that sit in.
Foster is isolated and is getting doubled up on all the time - what he needs is clever players playing between the lines to give the defence questions to answer - then the space will open up for him.
Koleosho needs to do more and prove that he isn't just a one-trick pony... we need creativity from our wide players, not just direct running.

Worrall is fine defensively but makes Michael Duff look like Franz Beckenbauer.
Hurry up back, Jordan Beyer.

Was it the doubling up on him that forced him into the (unforced) errors of swinging wildly and putting the ball into row z when anyone who has played football at pub level could have told you it wasn't sitting right? Or his other snatched at chances?

Correct subs for me.
Although Foster has been poor, he needs to stay on and actually play up front.

That's not what I inferred either.BigGaz wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:18 pmThe football understanderer has logged in.

I inferred that when playing against a team that sits in, we need players playing between the lines to create space/cause indecision in defenders that will open space up for Foster.
Hopefully Flemming and Sarmiento will change the game.

Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
Beautiful. Let's give Parker some credit here, it was the subs that people were calling for and it's done just the trick.

Also notable before that, flemming actually tried to run in behind and hey presto, it created space deeper.

Hopefully that's a lesson learned for Parker.
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
Playing Brighton now according to Bird
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
Was beginning to think we wouldn't score.
Get in.
Sad to see some people slagging off SP. Give the bloke a bloody chance. He's trying to find his best team FFS.

That's what we're talking about foster. That pass right there. He isn't being helped by what's going on around him sure but he also isn't helping himself.
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
That was good control by Trafford but it doesn't half near give you a heart attack. I think I would rather he caught it.
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
Need to get Foster off
Re: Clarets Vs Pompey - Match Thread
So, Sarmiento and Flemming on. Who's gone off?

If Foster can't do it, Flemming simply has to start either with our without him.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:25 pmIt's as if like magic eh?

Foster will score goals if given the service.
He's not a striker that's going to have intricate link play. Needs to form a partnership with Flemming.

It's been so much better since the subs have been on, plenty of time for a winner.

Agreed, i'm not a huge detractor of Foster I just think we don't get the best out of him. Flemming could be a great foilCoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:30 pmFoster will score goals if given the service.

Attack, sideways, back, attack, sideways, back. Pompey are doing Dyche 101 defending and fair play to them
We are frightened stiff of going through the middle.
