Yes. Yes he can be dropped. Even Alan Shearer was commenting on him to stay up top.
Loved his commentary.

And Southgate is a clown. Hanging on against serbia. Refused to bring foden central from the left and left TAA on for far too long.

Fair to say that game suggests that TAA can’t play in that position against a mid-level side never mind a top one. Rethink needed going forward, either Mainoo, Wharton or Gallagher.

Sick to the back teeth of Harry Kane.
He's still our best CF. Tactics leave him so isolated.
Did we stretch them on the left once in the whole game?

Wins a win.

Favourites don’t always win and we know that more than most being Burnley fans. Far more successful nations have lost those types of games in recent international tournaments.

Experiment failed for me and time to give a genuine midfielder (even Gallagher) a shout, first.

Wins a win. Be nice if they could cut out holding their heads/faces when they've not been touched anywhere near but I believe that's what they call game management these days.

Difficult call who's worse out of Guy Mowbray and Sam Matterface. Mad how both terrestrial channels roll out their worst commentators for big games.

Sat back a bit ?? We got battered second half by Serbia .. they were very unlucky not to snatch a point there .. we won yes but make no mistake if we play like that we will be coming home very soon

If that’s what Foden is offering in an England shirt, it’s time to play Eze, Palmer or Gordon from the off.

Nope and I’d commented about this pairing being a concern for this season a few weeks ago. Foden left tucking in works fine with an overlapping left back providing width and stretching play. Tripps was solid but offered nothing going forward and it leaves a very talented Foden a bit isolated. He’s at his best when he’s finding pockets inside and particularly for City this season on the inside right.

Well at least we learned TAA isn’t a centre midfielder. Bellingham is unreal. Rice was very good 2nd half. Southgate is scared of everything about football.

Even though they offer completely different things,

Eze runs at defenders on the left.
Palmer is better on the right
Gordon is better playing wide-left but drifting in.

And after saying Foden is useless, you now say we should completely sack him off?

I don't think Foden has the ability at international level to impose himself on a game. It's all well and good being a luxury for league megastars like City.. but....

International level is a lower standard than what he’s been playing with City though. I’d say it’s more, like I mentioned, a completely different role in a different system. The guy just won the PL POTY so I’m not sure how he was a ‘luxury’, he was their best player.

Thank Christ for Jude Bellingham - an absolute superstar and a winner.

Otherwise, very underwhelming. Trent has never seen a CM, hopefully that experiment has ended. No idea how Foden saw the full game.

Oh well - that’s the toughest team in the group out of the way and we can even try a couple of things now (Palmer, Eze, Wharton).

:D Beat you to it.

Yes experiment failed. First half hour he was fine, which shows he’s an option when we are dominating the ball - perhaps chasing a lead. But Serbia were far too strong in the second half and we had no way to play through their press.

That is likely to be our toughest group game but I can’t see him starting in midfield again as we need to figure out an alternative and work on it in the next couple of games before we face some really tough tests.

Played very decent first half hour and are top of the group currently so not at all a failure.
Still don't think the team has the belief of champions (Bellingham excepted) or that the manager reads the game well enough to make good subs at the right time.
Plenty of improvement needed but it might come.

All the talk of Serbia dominating is a little OTT. They completely pegged us back into our own half but didn’t really threaten our goal and we had the best chance of the second half.

Concerning lack of control though but coming through a tough test like this may actually be more beneficial than a routine 2-0 win in the long term.

True. But most of the commentators are rather annoying. Best so far is as the female commentator this afternoon on Itv. Think it was the Poland Denmark game. For the other game I listened to the radio commentary, but to be honest I’d prefer no commentary at all.

Exactly. He’s playing out of position. For Man City he’s a round peg in a highly polished round hole.

Sometimes the best players have to be sacrificed for the good of the team.

I thought that was such a Burnleyesque Kompany Premier league performance, passing for the sake of passing, panicking and giving the ball away, little attacking flair ,caution, back to the keeper then an aimless punt forward, manager and players sussed out by the opposition.
Just hope the catering was better.

Serbia worked out how to stop Saka, who was our only real attacking danger. We had no attack from the left. Would have preferred to see Gordon on the left, as Foden isn't that kind of player.

Luxury in as much as his (undoubted) ability is accepted. He has the advantage with City of a virtual free role.
You may say that international football is a lower standard than EPL, but the demands of discipline and taking responsibility are higher (IMO)

Southgate has been in charge for 8 years, and yet nothing has changed. People are quite rightly annoyed because we have all this attacking talent, yet we play so defensively.

What's not changed? We've gone from barely getting from a group stage to a group of likeable, young athletes that are making finals and semi finals. What's not changed?

We are one of the most feared teams in international football. You might be older than me but I don't remember a more exciting England side in the 40 years I've been watching them

What negative football? You're just spouting buzz words.

We are one of the most feared teams in international football. You might be older than me but I don't remember a more exciting England side in the 40 years I've been watching them
We might be a feared team, but we aren’t exciting.

literally every single pundit, every single ex pro says Southgate isn't brave enough and is too negative. I've genuinely not heard a single opposite view from any of them. Plenty of positives tonight, Guehi and Rice were superb but we are clearly having a problem putting it all together at the moment at the other end of the pitch. At 1-0 you do what Spain and Germany did and go an get the second, we just dropped off as we always do - it's a problem that Southgate needs to address but never does.

I thought that was such a Burnleyesque Kompany Premier league performance, passing for the sake of passing, panicking and giving the ball away, little attacking flair ,caution, back to the keeper then an aimless punt forward, manager and players sussed out by the opposition.
Just hope the catering was better.
