Nimani was the one that first came to mind for me but already mentioned! I did hear a rumour back at the time that he was wanted by police after running across train tracks or something like that. Can't remember all the details. That came from someone very close to the manager at the time!

Paul McKenzie?helmclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:02 pmWhat was that Mckenzie’s first name? 4th division championship season? Wasn’t he a postman in Scotland?
Did we have a Paul McKay also (local lad?).

We had a striker called Paul Robinson when Stan was here.
Can’t remember him playing much.

Who would the manager of this team be? (I was thinking shortest full-time appointment, not including caretakers).

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
Yeah, think he played around 1989/90, but played around 10 games or so. He was in my Biology class at Barden HS (left 1987)
Didn't Ian Muir, the Tranmere goal machine, play on loan with us?
Also, I remember a player called Phil Ray, as I have 2 cousins called Philip and Raymond

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
I thought his 1 and only appearance was as a sub against Coventry. Pretty sure I remember a pic of him and Dele Adebola.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:53 pmHe got another sub appearance at the end of the season but Ryan Townsend came on in 80th minute in that game at Crewe and it was his only appearance.
EDIT: Dele Adebola can’t have played much for us either.

I stand to be corrected, but with the possible exception of the goalkeeper, I am convinced that the 10 outfield players will each have played less than a game and most probably less than 10 minutes.

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
Kendall got the " rap " for the 5-2 defeat at Blackpool, but in truth the defending was also shocking that day. We'd got it back to 3-2, and then started chasing an equaliser ... He kept a clean sheet on his debut, a 0-2 away win at Chesterfield, and was also in goal for the 2-2 FA Cup game at home to Derby, who included Peter Shilton & Ted McMinn in their ranks.helmclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:27 pmI never realised Mark Kendall was in goal for Wolves in the Sherpa Van final.

I can probably find out what minute Ian Patterson came on at (was it Bristol Rovers away in 1993?) and Neil Howarth (Colchester away 1990?) as I was keeping my own little records in those daysClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:38 pmRick Holden, Neil Howarth, Ian Patterson & Stewart Hooper all made one sub appearance but don’t know what time they came on.

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
Great pub quiz question:
Which Burnley striker scored a goal in each of his appearances at Turf moor, without ever starting a competitive game during his 2 year stint at the club?
I thought Besart Berisha would have been one of the most famous but he never achieved even one competitive minute!

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
Neil Howarth replaced Paul Atkinson after 70 minutes at Colchester in May 1990. It was Colchester's last game in the league for 2 seasons before they came back up. I'll check the other subs later.

Van der Schaff must have been terrible to not get a game, wasn’t he highly rated in Holland?

Was thinking Jeff Tate but then remembered his claim to fame was to score his first ever goal for the club and never play again. Only played 5 times though.

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
The legend that was Tony Hancock Centre Forward must lead the line for his perm alone?
That's what £50k got you in 1989, Stockport definitely saw us coming.
Brian Chippendale (Left Wing I think) a winger of least renown.
Drissa Diallo, (Centre Back) I was gutted when he left after his man of the match MOTD performance. If we weren't on telly I'm sure he would have stayed.
Leigh Palin never really got a sniff. (Midfield)
Richard Overson (VInce's brother) (Centre Back)
Micky Wardrobe and he was built like one. (Centre Forward)
Viv Busby a classy loan (Midfield)
Colin Anderson Winger Played in our 0-1 FA cup defeat against Bury eventually signed by West Brom.

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
After checking I'm amazed that the majority of those players played a lot more than I thought they did, I was sure they were one or two match wonders.
Goes without saying when Hancock and Chippendale get 27 appearances between them it shows how shoite we were.
Anybody who complains about our current players, you really don't know how lucky you are.

Alan Lee can’t have played many minutes for us.

Re: FEWEST minutes Burnley XI
He'd made his Burnley debut against Ipswich and had impressed Joe Royle who was manager at the time. That led to Dobbo keeping tabs on him. He shouldn't be mentioned in this thread though, he made 18 appearances for us.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 9:09 pmDrissa Diallo was only on a short term contract and got reccomended to Ipswich by their scout Martin Dobson.
