Joe Hart on paper was a top signing for us but he wasn't what we needed, as evidenced by the uptick in form after Heaton returned from injury - and Hart didn't do anything particularly wrong, made some top saves infact!

Re: Summer transfer window
I wonder if Steves new contract has been pushed through so that he's too earner. Wonder if that means Brownhills on his way back in.
Re: Summer transfer window
Even if he stays now, we aren't going to get a good season out of him. He's basically missed pre season and all of the tactical work that appears to have gone on.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 2:47 pmBrownhill is back in Manchester. Just seen him at his flat. Had a proper bad time getting over his split. Was tight lipped on Burnley.
He was probably worth the 70k or whatever we offered him in May time, but now I'd have big question marks about whether we should be risking that much money on someone who clearly isn't fully committed and would be even less so if we went down.
Re: Summer transfer window
Brownhill can do 1 now for me. If he’s only just decided to stay despite the contract being on the table for months, shows his heart really wouldn’t be in it.

He wasn't worth 70k regardless of what he did last season, if he comes crawling back I'd offer him a 30k per week take it or leave it deal. He clearly thought he'd get better terms elsewhere.

I get your point. I'll be OK whether he stays or goes but it was the same argument last season regarding commitment and he showed us everything we could have hoped for. Right up to the end.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 3:47 pmEven if he stays now, we aren't going to get a good season out of him. Dolan gone to Espanyol. Rovers fans not happy as they won't get the money for him now.

Having played a full season under Scott Parker and flourished, Josh would be in a far better position to understand the tactics than anyone joining in the next few weeks before the window closes.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 3:47 pmEven if he stays now, we aren't going to get a good season out of him. Re: Summer transfer window
He will be nowhere near match fit and by the looks of it Parker has changed system. So the role of the central midfielders will change massively which im not sure will suit Brownhill that well.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 3:55 pmHaving played a full season under Scott Parker and flourished, Josh would be in a far better position to understand the tactics than anyone joining in the next few weeks before the window closes.
If we are to play the 433 with Brownhill allowed to push on from the right of the 3 then I'd hope we can get him to sign. But It doesn't look.lile that's the system we are going with.
He'd also be going into a league he hasn't really excelled in, with basically no pre season and as our highest paid player on about 70 grand a week.
It's a bigger gamble to take now than it was 2 months ago.
Re: Summer transfer window
As I've said previously and was called petty. I would offer Josh reduced terms to reflect the fact he is no longer a first team target. At this stage he wouldnt improve us. He would be towards the bottom of my target list.
Re: Summer transfer window
If Josh Brownhill wants to come back to Burnley then I'm sure that Scott Parker and Alan Pace will only take him back IF it is beneficial for Burnley FC.
We don't know all of the ins and outs re Josh Brownhill's situation so just wait and see what transpires. If anything of course.

Brownhill obviously hasn't had the offers him or his agent were expecting.

Some unpleasant attitudes towards our top scorer and captain from our 100 point season who remained 100% committed to the last second of the season, despite his future being uncertain.

Re: Summer transfer window
I'd take Brownhill back any day of the week. We need people like him, Cullen, Roberts, Barnes etc that instil what our club is about and have been there through our ups and downs. He is serviceable in the Premier League and outstanding in the league below (where, let's be honest, we have a large chance of being in a year). No brainer if whatever the issue is has now been sorted - be that personal or professional.
Frankly though, I don't see it. There must be a good reason why he has not been around and I can only assume that is due to another club needing to ship someone out before they can bring him in or something along those lines. I have no idea frankly.

Re: Summer transfer window
I find it increasingly frustrating when people avoid the evidence Infront of them.
Brownhill has had a contract on the table for a long time.
There were rumours as early as last summer about him wanting a new challenge and potential move abroad.
Suggesting he wants to stay. When he has had what I should imagine to be longer than 12 months to sign a new deal. Sounds a little far fetched.
Even if you want to entertain the idea that he wanted to stay for premier league football. He has now had three months to pen that deal.
At what stage do you have to accept that if he wanted to stay. He would have signed.
I don't see much Ill feeling on here. Just reality.
I was one of the first to thank Josh for his service. He's been a great player for us.
However. We are targeting midfielders that we hope to be better players. To resign Brownhill now would be a backwards step. Even as a squad player imo. Should we get to the end of the window and we havnt made the right additions to the centre and he is still available. I would consider bringing him back. But I suspect both party's will have moved on by then.
It is no longer the right time and would stifle us signing 2 CM's rather than just 1.

JB has moved on.
He served us brilliantly over the years, and peaked at the end to get us over the line. Really stood up for us.

I've nothing against the guy but it looks like he's taken a bit of a gamble and its bitten him on the backside a bit.
Re: Summer transfer window
I agree but can we really put him in that category when he's left the club in the lurch for this long. I'm not naive so I have no problems with players looking at bigger clubs etc. But to miss a whole pre season just tossing around with a personal trainer in America isn't exactly the professionalism that was always shown by previous leaders such as Barnes, Heaton, Cork etc (I wouldn't include Roberts in this).jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 4:17 pmI'd take Brownhill back any day of the week. Re: Summer transfer window
Nobody, except those closely involved, know what is going on regarding Brownhill. Perhaps any replacement(s) that we may have lined up has decided to sign elsewhere and it is the club that is nursing a sore backside.
When a quality replacement for his position signs on the dotted line perhaps the endless speculation will come to an end.

Re: Summer transfer window
I've no idea what is going on with Brownhill. I'm daresay we'll find out something before long. However, if he does re-sign and gives his all I don't see any reason to hold it against him, any more than I'd hold it against any other player who has left to explore other opportunities and then subsequently returned. We've had a few players over time in that bracket. The closest parallel might be Joey Barton, who left after helping us to promotion and then returned only a few months later and played a part in us staying up in 2017. If I had reservations about that move, it was the general reservations about Barton's character, not the fact he'd decided to take up an offer from Rangers rather than re-commit to us in the first place.

Re: Summer transfer window
Lot of disrespect for last season’s captain and leading goalscorer. Nobody who doesn’t know him will have any idea how a break up will have affected him. I suffered similar and for a few months nothing else mattered, not friends,Family or work. Let’s give JB some leeway here, forget the rumours that he wanted away ( perhaps his Mrs was putting pressure on him to move- we don’t know). What I do know is that when he played for us he gave 100% every game. I feel he’ll come back and give the same energy and commitment again.

Chill. Leeds and Sunderland are going through the same process. Couple of places to fill but we are well on the way. Improvements have been made.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 12:40 pmCouldn’t give a shite where Trafford goes from here. All I’m bothered about is that we’ve now lost the third of our best four players from last season, all down the spine of the team. Thank God for Esteve.
When set against other teams, that’s not a great way to go into a PL season. I’d like to hear about our plans to address that pretty soon now we’ve got a conclusion to the saga.

Get over yourself man. He’s an OOC professional footballer entitled to look at his options. That has zero bearing on his performance level next year.
What is it with football fans that a player has to be committed to their club for life?

Re: Summer transfer window
So footballers can look at there options but the supporters can't. A football player dosnt have to be commited to the club outside of his contract but a supporter should be loyal to someone who no longer has a contract to the club? Sounds a little one sided to me..Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 5:05 pmGet over yourself man. He’s an OOC professional footballer entitled to look at his options. The reality is we want better than Brownhill. Should we resign him he'll take up a spot that sees one of Laurent, Cullen or Hannibal drop out as we will still likely try to displace him from the team. We need two new CMs. There is no room for Brownhill. He took the chance assessing his options and we have ours. For me. He no longer fits.
It's not sour grapes. It's trying to move on with business.

Perhaps he's at a pivotal point in his life and career, and simply wants to take a long, hard think about things rather than rush into a decision to suit Conroy92.
I'd much prefer this, and him half-assing it at the end of last-season with his head elsewhere.
Josh Brownhill has earned the right to do precisely what he's done with his performances and commitment to Burnley since he first signed - and not only that, no one except Josh, Scott Parker and the club knows what has exactly gone on.

Is there any news on Beyer, he wasn’t at the open training day and isn’t on latest pictures, could he have a loan move or maybe another knock?

He's being managed correctly and integrated slowly, he has a long way to go yet and the club are trying to not rush him back like last time. We don't know what the board / SP have said to Brownhill, they're hardly gonna get played off him (and I doubt JB would do that either).
An offer may or may not be on the table, it may be contingent on us signing his replacement, heck, we may even be in contact with him about the ongoing situation(s).
Just relax!
