“We are extremely pleased to have secured the services of Nathan, who has been much sought after as one of the most promising young players in the country," said Burnley chairman Alan Pace.
"We believe he will be an excellent addition and we see his signing as an ideal start to our summer’s business and the new collaborative approach to transfer activity now in place at the club, through our technical committee that involves the manager and his coaching staff, the scouting and recruitment teams, along with our data analytics department.”
His words fill me with more confidence when it comes to transfers than Garlick ever did.

"Collins comes from a football family. His dad Dave started out at Liverpool without making the first team but played for both Wigan and Oxford before returning to his native Ireland to play for both Shelbourne and Athlone."
Not the legendary David Collins of Champ Man 99/00 fame? He was on Burnley's books though, so I doubt it.

Good news
I take it Riggs team are still in place but he has been jettisoned?
Liking the idea of a joined up recruitment process anyhow

It's an interesting statement for Alan Pace to make. Everyone "rowing in the same direction," so to speak, is the best way to progress.

Welcome Nathan, really pleased with this signing.
From my mate who’s a big Stoke fan:
‘Solid for a youngster and great with his feet. Has been playing right back for us as we have no one else. Best young centre half I've seen since shawcross at Stoke, but much better with his feet he can get forward. Think you’re the perfect club for him. Only thing he could improve is cutting the odd mistake but he's so young would be strange if he didn't have the odd one and even then it's really rare. Defo a Prem player. Time will tell but I think he'll be the best player we've produced in a long time.’
Looks like we have got a gem on our hands. Very promising start to the window.

Alan Pace's words on this do certainly inspire a confidence that he and the manager are very much singing from the same hymn sheet.
What a colossal difference in approach and feeling compared to last summer, already.
Welcome to the Turf Nathan!

ABSOLUTELY-no direspect to MG but he would not have seen the importance of adding Alan Pace's endorsement to the signing. As d poster recently it shows we have not lost the art of sgning great prospects.

Looks a great signing. Like Tarkowski I suspect he’ll spend a season on the fringes, replacing Tarkowski himself in 22/23 (of course all this assumes we keep Tarkowski until the end of his contract).

Collins has said that both Sam and Stephen Ward have spoken to him about Burnley and I'm sure Dyche will have spoken to them about Collins.

And I can confirm that
1. He's been added to the list of transfers at the top of the board.

2. He's been added to the squad list on the site, at the bottom of the first team squad with having no squad number.

Delighted to complete the first new signing since we became custodians of
@BurnleyOfficial. A warm welcome to Nathan Collins and excited to see another promising young player in the Claret & Blue! #UTC
Particularly pleasing to read the words emphasised, but also the official statements final paragraph:
"We believe he will be an excellent addition and we see his signing as an ideal start to our summer’s business and the new collaborative approach to transfer activity now in place at the club, through our technical committee that involves the manager and his coaching staff, the scouting and recruitment teams, along with our data analytics department.”
Does make you wonder why such a collaborative approach via a technical committee weren’t in place beforehand but overall sounds like he’s making some very positive change.
Well done and thank you Alan.

It is Paul
MG was never one for much communication which seemed to annoy a lot of people.
as for the technical committee bit, this does not seem too different to way Riggs role was described when he arrived - that may have changed over the period but just because the new chairman puts warm words around it to address what many fans have feared on social media over the years and has given the group a title does not necessarily mean it is completely new practice. It feels similar to the way many think this summers investment at Turf Moor was a new ownership initiative when it plainly was not.
A am happy that everyone else seems happy, and join them at being pleased to have some young potential in the club, in an area of the team that is likely to see significant changes in the next season or so. We obviously need more players, I am just a little concerned as to where the upfront money is coming from if we are not going to sell any of our better players and whether this is going to be a one off splurge again this summer followed by a few fallow years.

The length of contract + option suggests the Manager has high hopes for the lad, it will be interesting then to see whether a 20yr old with no Premier League Experience starts the season and if he does in which position.
A few more like this will be good to see though so well done to all involved.

Sean has always made the point that he wants signings in BEFORE pre season starts. This is a very good sign of exactly that. Hopefully with more to follow.
Maybe he's waiting to see how this window turns out before putting pen to paper on his own new deal?

It manages the cost of the player to levels the club can better afford and also means that if he comes good in a 2 - 3 years any approaches for him will be met with a high fee demand

I think when clubs like Werder Bremen, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester have showed an interest the lad must have something

Wow! we signed a player and it's only the 24th June, this is a strange feeling.
No he doesn't have any PL experience, but he's got almost 50 appearances for Stoke, with 40 of those at Championship level, plus of course a number of ROI youth team games under his belt, some of which he captained in interestingly, so it's not like we're signing a callow youth he knows what the game is about.
He's a big lad isn't he 6' 4" so he should provide a threat at set pieces, a very promising start to the window, and if this is the direction Pace & co are taking us in then I'm definitely on board, far rather someone in the vein of Nathan Collins than ageing pros looking for one last big payday.
Maybe this will be exciting times after all.
