Must be Boro next? An interesting one for me. I was in the Boro end with a Boro supporting workmate.

I was at the match. I was convinced it was Casper who scored the three, and I thought the goalkeeper had saved the penalty, but he'd stuck the rebound in. I also seem to remember it was a convincing performance, but not according to Tony's article. I better keep quiet.

Latest in a great series, for the news parts as much as the football. I liked the story about the man who stole the curtains and then took them back for a refund. The one about the Sheffield police is also very telling in the light of later events.

"Another fan, a 24 year old, was remanded on bail for assaulting a police officer".
Thanks Tony for confirming my innocence and protecting my anonymity! Now 72 years old, I still have a disregard for the police after the "fabricated evidence". On the Monday after the match at Hillsborough the Sheffield Morning Telegraph had a large editorial piece in which they criticised the local police (then the Sheffield and Rotherham Constabulary and not the South Yorkshire Police who only came into being 18 months later at local government reorganisation). It didn't improve them as shown by the Hillsborough Inquiry.
That was the only season when I attended every Burnley game and Taffy's goal was the only one I missed due to being in the holding cell beneath the Kop at the time!

I didn't know you posted on the board - I still remember the original court case with the copper and his lies.

One thing about these articles is they are seen by some of those involved in them. I got a text from the hat trick man yesterday.

Couldn't attend the game as I was away in London. Intrigued that Paul Fletcher took the penalty as we always felt he was a much better striker of the ball when having little time to think about it as underlined by his classic overhead kick the following season at Leeds and a great volley earlier in this season in the 4-1 win at home to Villa. But with two goals already scored what better way to earn a hat trick than a free shot from 12 yards out.

The only reason I remember this game was that there was a guy who was standing not far away who appeared to hate Paul Fletcher with a passion. It wasn't just at this game but seemingly every game from the minute the teams ran out to the final whistle. Useless, hopeless, not fit to wear the shirt etc etc with a generous helping of expletives thrown in, sometimes between syllables. When PF scored his third the comment was " lucky b*****d".
Strange thing was that he disappeared when Fletcher left.

I remember several 'fans' being like this over the years.

Very much so. Some very good and upright citizens in support.
