We could really do with an international break

We looked absolutely knackered tonight - at least there are no midweeks coming up in the next few weeks and then in March we go three weeks between games because of the Leicester game and the international break.

Re: ARTICLE: I was pleased the way we saw the game out
In total agreement with Sean and CT here. I read a lot of comments regarding what players ought to be able to achieve physically on here but the current situation we face is cumulative and with around 20 mins. left some of the players were 'treading water'. The reasons for this have been well documented but around 60 hours to the next game I'm concerned about who will be genuinely available come Saturday. A very good point for us.
Re: ARTICLE: I was pleased the way we saw the game out
We could do with a few players going out breaking the rules, cry covid and get a nice couple of weeks break, it seems to have worked wonders for a couple of teams....

It's really hard work at the moment with how quickly all the games are coming.
Especially clubs with small squads. And there aren't any other clubs with less options than ours in this league.
It was an excellent point last night.

Tough season; just survive and get through it. Disappointed in the moment when the full time whistle left but I’d spent all day thinking that it was a game that we mustn’t lose. Objective achieved and with plenty of games to come, it’s a highly significant result. Another tough one ahead on Saturday.

And some people still insist we should have gone full strength against Bournemouth. Incredible.

That they value winning something ie the fa cup as much or more than staying in the leagueTheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 9:43 amTheir point being that we should have played a full strength side. What have I missed?
Re: ARTICLE: I was pleased the way we saw the game out
Still annoys me that Fulham got the game cancelled in the first place which haven't helped us out at all in this period of games.

Very tough season for us generally, having lost players last summer, a full season recruitment freeze, a small squad, a far more congested fixture list. Just survive this one and regroup in summer. In that sense, last nights result was all that we needed and could have been a lot worse had we not scored immediately after their poor goal.

Some posters seemed to think we could do both (I'm not saying we couldn't) but their views would be interesting if we'd not rested players and only picked up a point (or less) from the last two games.

SD has to deal with the fit players he has available and last night for the last 15 mins we were running on empty. We didn't have an out ball and one of my big grumbles with SD is why he didn't bring on Joel. He's big and fast and would have chased down the out ball and kept the Fulham defence honest in that last period of the game plus he could have rested either Jay or Ash who looked knackered.

Think your missing the point.
A lot of fans are not particularly bothered about being a premier league club. So the chance of getting to a quarter final or potentially further is a much more exciting prospect than just surviving.
Each to there own I guess.

chasing the ball has always been more tiring than keeping it.
if we could refrain from "lumping" it we might be less tired.

And what would you want the club to be aiming to achieve once we are back in The Championship?

Fair point Capt., but one consideration might have been that Sean had already used up two subs covering injured players and if he brought on Mumbongo and then the team copped another injury, they could have been down to ten men for the last 15/20 minutes.
Re: ARTICLE: I was pleased the way we saw the game out
Can I just point out that in three matches against sides who are supposed to play better football than us - Brighton, Leeds & Fulham there has only been one team who has played the football during those games and it wasn't our opponents.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:29 amchasing the ball has always been more tiring than keeping it.

But you are making a large leap with that statement. It is not a given that we would be relegated if we played a competitive eleven in the cup matches.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:34 amAnd what would you want the club to be aiming to achieve once we are back in The Championship?
I’m not saying I support there view but I certainly understand it.

But we never dominate possession, so we spend more time chasing the ball. And we still knock a lot of balls long, whether you want to accept that is entirely your choice.

Re: ARTICLE: I was pleased the way we saw the game out
Reading what Scott Parker said this statement stood out for me ".........The ball was out of play a lot, there were a lot of fouls, a lot of stop start....."
A lot of fouls --true, except that there were not a lot of fouls when compared to Fulham's other PL matches this season. In only 6 of their 24 games have there been less fouls this season and in only three of those did Fulham commit less fouls than their opponents.
On Wednesday they committed 13 fouls and we committed 7, so why is he moaning?
In their PL games this season they are averaging 12.8 fouls per game, their opponents average 9.9. They are also second in the table for cautions with 45 yellows abd joint second in dismissals with 3 red.
We get a lot of criticism for being physical etc., however, we have had 31 cautions and 0 dismissals, although Brady seemed to be trying hard at one point last night!

Re: ARTICLE: I was pleased the way we saw the game out
Maybe Sean should go easy on them in training.
How many matches did we play in 'the' Coyle season?
I think some of the training sessions that season consisted of a bit of stretching and a little kick about.
