Nuno Tavares to Arsenal so we can put that one to bed. Which has me thinking, we are competing (presumably) for the same targets as an outfit like Arsenal as well as Man U sometimes and other clubs of a similar stature. We’re doing some things incredibly right. Nathan Collins father said it in the interview... there were other clubs in for Nathan but what mattered is that Sean really wanted him... it wasn’t just a signing but that we saw Nathan as an integral part of the team. I love being Burnley.
United weren't after Collins lol let's be real.

To be fair DJ I regular get told not to post links unless they are credible sources. None of them are credible.

I suspect they probably were looking at him. To be a similar type signing as James.

One of them is a national paper, even if it is garbage, so it's credible.

Utd, and other clubs, will regularly keep an eye out for upcoming talent, hence why Utd signed Smalling from Fulham after a dozen league games for £10 million which surprised a lot of people.

Steven Fletcher was on a Real Madrid watch list as a youngster if I remember rightly, so the link was there, even if they never made a move for him, same with Utd and Collins.

Links were around last year for Collins with Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal keeping tabs.

Keeping tabs lol these big clubs are keeping tabs on anything that breathes doesn't mean they will sign them. I understand why your doing it because it makes you feel as though we've signed someone big but we haven't he's a good player nothing else sorry to let you down like this.

Come on a club statement about a potential transfer target!! You asked for a source and he’s linked to a story in the country’s best selling newspaper. Just leave it.

Course you know for a fact. Clubs don't issue public statements about their transfer targets.

A club like United will keep tabs on loads and loads of players

Hell, I'm sure we do as well

I'm just pleased we got a player who fits our profile, and can play in more than one position

The test now is getting another three in before the season starts so we've got a decent squad again

If man United would have really wanted Collins, we wouldn’t have signed him it’s that simple there’s nothing complicated about it.

I'm not feeling let down LOL
He was monitored by other clubs LOL
I've provided links LOL
We signed him because he fits our profile and we got him for a good price LOL

You're the one just dismissing everything without backing anything up and demanding I provide a club statement that they're interested in a player, massive great big LOL.

True, we’ve just got to hope it’s a decision man United will regret in years to come why they never took the chance with him & that will mean it’s a good signing to our benefit.

Gotta admit it made me chuckle a bit when I saw it mentioned United were after him but we signed him ahead of them. Some fans live in cloud 9.

Whilst Collins looks like he could become a good player there seems to be an automatic assumption that just because Man U. are/might be interested in a player then they must be good.

Remember, we've signed some utter dross that have played for United's first team, such as Lee Roche and Richard Eckersley.

Stoke only wanted 12 million, Man United don't get into anything unless they are able to spend 35 million plus !

I think those arguing for Collins being on United’s radar or not miss the most obvious explanation. United were interested in him, but it was not as someone for next season.. he would be looking at two or three years down the line having a chance at the first team. Therefore he wasn’t high priority. We did not beat United to his signature, but yes they were looking at him.

As for claims of being in the know and relevant sources… utter ********, no source is correct until a player signs. As for in the know my arse… I know the former Everton and AstonVilla media manager… and I would not expect him to tell me anything, and he is my friend because he knows I have more class than to ask.

No, they (and many other clubs of their stature) sign players that end up being absolute dross. You’re 100% correct: if I insinuated that: “just because X team is interested then they must be good.” I apologize. Not my intention. To clarify, my point is it’s nice to be active in the market even if the allure of bigger names come around wherein we sign a player that one of their big draws to come to Burnley FC was because of the intentionality behind our choice of said player. That he was wanted, that he fit in, that he knew he could be developed at a PL club like ours even if it is a smaller club or name than the likes of a Man U or Chelsea etc.

Its nice to be wanted by a player too you know? Nathan Collins for all intents and purposes, with what his father said, wanted to come to Burnley even with other clubs interested.

That’s important to me. Not a second choice.

Hey, I don’t know if Nathan Collins is “big” I don’t care. His father is quoted saying that other PL teams were interested in him and talking to him about a move.
From the article I posted where his father does the interview:
“ A host of others were linked with the Irishman, including Arsenal and Manchester United, but it was Burnley who snared the prospect.

"We know there were other clubs that were coming in and looking at him and speaking to him but the big thing for us was that we know Sean Dyche wanted him," said dad Davy, in an exclusive interview with Lancs Live.”

Who cares if Collins is big??? Not me. What I think is neat, if you will, is how we sealed the deal. He was wanted by our manager, he fit with our ethos. He liked that. He liked our managers “brand” of football. I think that’s really interesting and positive. Sorry to strike a chord if I did.

The interview from his father makes the insinuation that he had choices with other clubs linked with them talking to him. I guess we will never know who the choices were between!

I can confirm no other club had a bid accepted, so he didn't have a choice to make. I can also confirm there's absolutely no way he'd chose Burnley over Man United/Chelsea. It's likely those clubs tracked him as a youngster but never bid hence the ''link''.

Quite!

Instead of simply being pleased with a signing or looking at future signings (the supposed subject of the thread) it’s now descended into a shite debate about whether or not other clubs or Man United were interested.

To be frank, who gives a **** - the lad has signed for Burnley.

I don't think you need to apologise.
As for the big clubs named in the article, I'm sure they monitor a whole load of players who they may end up showing no interest in.

Oh, are we having a bank holiday on Monday, win or lose?
BTW, have they done away with the 3rd place play off? Would have been something to watch tonight.
