Considering you don't think Cork, Westwood or Brownhill are capable of passing a ball most things in life will appear strange to you. I realise it is probably just another way for you to have a whinge at Brownhill but aren't you getting close to boring even yourself with this agenda ?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:09 pmTo be fair Tony both of there squads are considerably younger and larger than ours, they can afford to carry old players. spot on pal, last we needed was 2 more over 30 players, more short sighted action from the club, keep putting plasters on issues that need a total operation overall - two of the recent players we have signed for "big money" have come from clubs that finished 14th (stoke) and 19th (bristol city) in the championship - its not rocket science where our breeding ground is and our pulling power is - but apparently, it seems, in the entire mid to bottom half of the championship there are no players aged between 21-25 that can possible improve our team/squad.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:09 pmTo be fair Tony both of there squads are considerably younger and larger than ours, they can afford to carry old players. I wasn’t directly taking a dig at Brownhill I feel that CM in general is our weakest position.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:11 pmConsidering you don't think Cork, Westwood or Brownhill are capable of passing a ball most things in life will appear strange to you. As Saturday highlighted we are playing a team that is supposed to be at our level but we only managed one sequence of over 10 passes the lowest in the league.

Our ball retention compared to other sides in this League does seem very poor, at first viewing at least.Ño doubt there are stats somewhere to back this up or otherwise , but we dont seem able to keep the ball for extended spells as most of our opponents do.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:31 pmI wasn’t directly taking a dig at Brownhill I feel that CM in general is our weakest position.

I'd like to see us put a 40 million quid bid in for Saint-Maximin just to jump start the big clubs into action with bids and get him out of Newcastle !

From a players position wise only Albrighton made any sense anyway - what would Young bring that a back up like Pieters doesn't ?? we already have 3 decent left side players in taylor, pieters and Dwight - yes taylor could be pushed forward but if we really wanted to do that we would play pieters more left back and taylor left midfield, same if we moved Dwight as a number 10 or off the forward but unlikely as the formation would have to change as well as personnel change. Plus probably our best movement forward never plays in Vids so cant see the new Dwight role anyhow. So Young brings age, experience, reliability so does Pieters - yes if your building a big squad fine but a wage to Young in a area where (for us) we seem covered is a starnge one when were crying out for other areas where we have no cover what so ever i.e. right midfield/wingerClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:32 pmNo he wasn't spot on at all. You're sat there banging on about signing Young for the left side, yet he's right footed and has played on the right wing, which is where we wanted him for
If you're gonna have a rant at least get your facts right.

Signing Young would have been a joke. I would much sooner see a younger lad from the under 23s on the bench than another pensioner picking up a wage packet every week.

What the does Young have to do with anything, anymore?
He was a player our manager thought would be valuable, he signed for Villa. What is left to debate?
The under 30thing some folk to obsess on is a complete irrelevance to building a team for this season. A thirty something is not necessarily over the hill, surely Burnley fans more than most clubs should realise that, If they stop looking at every opportunity to knock the club.

Kind of skews the demographic a bit though considering they are visiting France, doesn't it? I mean, you are more likely to speak French if you do.dibraidio wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 9:28 amI Work in a European client centre in France. We get dutch visitors all the time and a large number of them speak good French as well as brilliant English. Same goes for the Germans. Their language teaching is much better than ours.
Judging by this interview Erik Pieter's french is basic, he might understand a few words but if he's being spoken to in English it means he's not fluent as the French are as lazy as the English when it comes to languages, if they could have done this basic game in French they would have done.
https://actu.orange.fr/societe/videos/f ... dMJ0E.html
But yes, you don't need to tell me they are very good with other languages compared to other countries, but my point still stands. Most people there know German, English and Dutch. My point is only exasperated by the fact Pieters doesn't.
Either way, language is just one barrier. A player is much more likely to get along with a mixture of different nationals than a group almost entirely from the same country. Could you see Cornet traveling with Barnes and Westwood in their van to games?
Like anything in life people make friendship groups. If we had more of a mixture of different players it would be a much more attractive prospect.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
But if your squad is full of over 30s and you aren't careful you end up having to try and replace them all at the same time, like Palace recently. With the trouble we have recruiting that would likely be a disaster for us.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 3:19 pmWhat the does Young have to do with anything, anymore?

I disagree. We know our long term aim is to promote from the academies / feeder clubs, which remain at the embryonic stage. Yes players need replacing and more ‘legs’ is a priority. However, the defence is solid it is in transition that requires work, that means 1 or two for the attacking options. Wingers are midfielders and offer the option of a protective midfield of our current players and the option of bringing wingers inside al-la Dwight, or even bringing Jay Rod in to play in front of the two sitters.
It is why I don’t expect much for central midfield this window. Maybe if one suddenly turns up that we can’t resist last minute.

It will be Lennon, but that is no bad thing when we only have two wide men and we play 4-4-2
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
It’s a poor do when we’re claiming a signing to be ‘no bad thing’ simply because we’ve very little else.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 6:36 pmIt will be Lennon, but that is no bad thing when we only have two wide men and we play 4-4-2
Lennon perhaps becomes a little more acceptable if there does prove to be another wide player brought in. That would still be a pretty poor window.
A minimum of two plus Lennon should really be the minimum requirement, particularly when looking at upcoming requirements in the not too distant windows.
