It will be Lennon, but that is no bad thing when we only have two wide men and we play 4-4-2
Brilliant :D

Yup, but I'm being pragmatic about it

He's a body in a position that we are desperately short, and the longer that goes on, the more damage to our season it does

We'd still need another winger as an absolute minimum, but anything other than that might be a tad unrealistic

Does anyone genuinely think signing Lennon will improve our prospects this season ?

“He’s a body” that just about sums him up, Lancaster. He’s a body as was Crouch, Walters and as is Stephens. We’re good at signing these “bodies”.

I don't understand the hate for.Lennon on here. If he resigned it would be on less than previous wages and let's be honest we could really have done with him last season when Brownhill and a few others tried to do a job in the right

Didn't Dyche say in a recent interview that the squad needed padding out?

Lennon is simply another body to bulk up the squad.

I don’t hate Lennon. I am a realist, I simply don’t think he will improve Burnley in any way, were we to sign him. Since we signed Wood and Taylor, both of whom I was delighted to sign, we have gone steadily backwards and signing Lennon would be a further retrograde step.

Saying you'd rather a player wasn't signed does not equate to " hate "

The term "going backwards" is often overused, but if we were to sign Aaron Lennon again, it would be the most literal interpretation of the phrase we could manage this summer with regards to our recruitment.

depends if you think bringing Lennon on with 20 mins to go as a right winger is a better option than Brownhill ? I think he is a better option in that scenario but I most certainly wouldn't call it an improvement in terms of progressing the squad in terms of quality

My memories from Lennon 1st time round, was he was fast and tracked back, but didn't bother jumping to challenge for a header due to his size which as a game went on became exploited, and going forwards couldn't cross a ball. I really think Mancini would offer more in stature and stamina, and I know that sounds ridiculous considering Lennon's past, but it can only get better with experience for Mancini

People do know that "all the hate for Lennon" is "internet" for all thr people moaning about him and saying how crap he is/was/will be?

It's not a literal phrase. I don't think people are burning effigies of him in their I-Hate-Aaron-Lennon shrines. But there's plenty of "stealing a wage" "Shite before will e worse now" "pensioner" "disgrace of we signed him" comme ts. That's closer to hate than the "hey old boy, I rather think we could do a bit better" that people claim they're posting.

FFS. If this place wasn't he best place to get up to date news and stuff I couldn't give two ***** if I never visited again. 80% of the comments end up on here making me wonder if they really understand our club at all.

Hey Paul. I too used to live in Holland and agree with what you're saying but still retain my opinion that most, if they are multi lingual do not speak French. And I share this opinion being friends with a language teacher there that can speak 8 languages.

Out of interest where did you live? I lived in Amsterdam and later in Leiden.

I think Cornet could settle with some effort and kindness on our part, I was just highlighting that it's pretty bad we don't have the same plans for helping players relocate as other clubs do. Especially if you're comparing clubs who don't regularly perform better than we do.

Let's put it this way, if I were in Cornets boots, I, like him would be concerned about coming to Burnley and would certainly prefer Berlin. Much easier to make friends, the club has a wider variety of nationals and they reside in a very big city.

If we have no means to help players settle in it's just another box we can't tick for incoming players and unacceptable given our time in the premier league.
We lived in Den Haag. Loved living in the Netherlands. I had a long w/end in Amsterdam in April 2019, stayed in hotel by Vondel Park. King's birthday w/end. I'd have been back at least once since then if it wasn't for lockdowns.

I don't think we need to worry too much about the club not looking after new players signed from outside UK and Ireland. We might not have done a lot of this in the past. I see no reason why we can't be confident that Alan Pace and his colleagues can't ensure that any new signings aren't provided everything they need to settle quickly and successfully both around the club and in their social life away from the club (whatever that may be). Remember, the club's new owners are all re-locating themselves to Burnley and have re-located themselves many times before. Alan Pace moved to Barcelona from the US and his career in finance has included time in both London and US. I think I'm right in saying that he also moved around as a youngster with his father's work.

I don't know Maxwel Cornet's background and football history. Maybe he has a special reason why he should want to choose Bundesliga and Berlin over Premier League and Burnley. He could live in Manchester, if he feels he must live in a big city.

Completely missed the point.

It's not about whether they can or can't do it. It's that other clubs can clearly do it better than we can.
What point did I miss? What is it that Burnley can or can't do that "other clubs can clearly do better than we can?"

Have you missed all those interviews where ex-player after ex-player speak fondly of their time at Burnley and Sean Dyche as their manager?

I have to be honest Paul if I could choose Burnley or Hertha I'd be off to Berlin tout 'suite and perhaps thinks Berlin offers more chance of competetive success too. However we may do enough to turn his head here.

Why hasn’t Lennon been offered a move elsewhere ? He was poor last time around. Really disappointing. To sign an older version ( let alone the wages) is desperation and demonstrates a real failure in our transfer business to date.

I admire your positivity Paul. I used to go shopping in the Hague. Do miss living there sometimes. Hopefully as you say if the means haven't been there before, they will be soon. From the comments Pace has made so far and the outgoing staff it does seem like this kind of thing should improve in the future. Let's hope we can stay in the premier league to not halt any development further!

If you would prefer us to keep having two keepers on the bench or youth players who are nowhere near the level needed to come on instead of a former England International with vast amounts of experience then there’s no point in trying to change your mind.

I'm sure one of the reasons he wants to go there rather than Burnley is because Tousart who played at Lyon is now there.

Hertha are also a far more ambitious club than Burnley. Their four signings this season have come from Monaco, Schalke, Fiorentina and Augsberg. We've signed a free an a teenager from Stoke. I still don't see why we'd be after Cornet. Would he be happy to wait on the bench and learn the framework before getting a chance? Would he be able to leave his ego at the door?
After watching this video I can really see him hanging out in Padiham.

Footballer's value one thing above all else - money.

If we can offer a decent amount more in salary than Hertha Berlin (who cannot even afford the players fee, as it stands?) then I would not be shocked to see him come to Burnley ahead of Hertha even if they could match our bid.

Since the news about us agreeing a fee (which it appears was premature and was actually rejected) at the end of last week it's gone a bit quiet with this one however.

Watching the Newcastle v West Ham game was a bit frightening.

Saint-Maximin, Bowen, Benrahma, Wilson, Antonio etc

Mid table sides have at least two players who can stretch teams, at the moment we have zero

May yet end up surprised but I’ve always thought the Cornet rumours seemed very unlikely - mainly in terms of fit with the squad and work ethic.

May yet be proved wrong but still wouldn’t surprise me to see Cornet holding a Berlin shirt and us to have been grateful for a media smokescreen while working on other signings.

Of course the media, who may have incorrectly linked us, will point to us being “snubbed” or “outbid” in that event, never admitting they didn’t know who the real targets were.

While it is reported Pace has said there are a few bids on the table I’m not overthinking this Cornet one. That one has the feel of a pantomime.

If on Saturday we’d brought him on for Jay Rod and swapped McNeil central in a 10 behind Wood and told Lennon with his pace to plug the gap in behind Taylor, then yes

If on Saturday we’d brought him on for Jay Rod and swapped McNeil central in a 10 behind Wood and told Lennon with his pace to plug the gap in behind Taylor, then yes
I stopped reading after ‘Lennon with his pace’ - did I miss much?

I get that Cornet would buck the trend of recent Burnley signings. But it has been reported through what appear to be pretty reputable channels of journalism. Tough one to call.

Daily mail linking us with a move for Rob Dickie.

Now this would be a top signing. Best Cb in the championship by some distance

Some posts got removed last night I think, mainly the ones that were clearly taking the p**s

What I would say if we get Cornet is that it would be the sort of signing that propels us into a different orbit of potential purchases, and that is a very good thing

Can only see Wolves, Leeds & Newcastle linked with him, not us.

Weird how media works isn't it?

And also, would we be in for a CB?

No chance we are in for another centre back, in this window at least…
