Obviously it's cricket, I know. But they have changed so much about cricket that I have completely lost track of who plays for what. Wasn't the county championship decided last week?

Yes Warwickshire claimed the title last week, and this is the new end of season finale, I'm still undecided whether this is a good addition or not, partly because it's taking place so late in the year, but it is a chance for Lancs to claim silverware, and they don't come along that often, so it would be a great way to finish the campaign for the red rose if they could win this match.

8-1 Balderson gone for 1.

3 down - maybe Lancs trying to lose it before the rain cones. Now 4 down !

Terrible start it was always going to be tough in the morning session, but this game is already looking grim only half an hour in.

Warwickshire have bowled well, but there's been a couple of soft dismissals.

What format? 4 days? 50 overs? 20 overs? 20 sets?

If Lancs are already 4 down - as HB Claret has posted - is this a new format, how low a score can you get before the team is all out?

A 5 day game going into October, when you’ve just seen the county championship slip away….. fairly pointless game.

The ECB has trashed the county championship and now this. They did however share million £ bonuses for successfully launching the Hundred!

Quite clever this from Lancs, they clearly wanted to bowl this morning to take advantage of the conditions.

Yeah just looked it up that one was in 2013. Lowest ever was 12 in 1907 so it looks like we are safe.

I don't like the idea of pointless games after the season has ended (Leicester v Burnley for FA Cup 3rd place in 1974 when less than four and a half thousand turned up at Filbert Street 12 days after the season had ended is a good example). If they want a Bob Willis Trophy then why not change the name of the county championship trophy or have an event mid-season?

Lancashire's lowest ever is 25, the lowest in recent times is 33 at Northants in 1977.

Lowest against Warwickshire is 70, so that might be in danger.

It’s a pointless game, but at least Lancs were good enough in the proper season to get into the pointless game.

Have Yorkshire released “THE” report yet?

Marginal recovery by Bohannon and Wood who added 35, before Bohannon was out for 17 moments prior to the rain arriving.

47-7 Wood & Bailey at the crease, play due to resume at 12.15

Interesting to see an Up The Clarets favourite, Tim Brennan, in the Warwickshire team. Three county championships for him, two with the cockney kolpack glory boys as well as a third this season aged 36, along with an ICC 2020 World Cup winners medal and an Ashes winner in Australia which enabled England to become number 1 ranked team in the world.

Not bad for a fat lad, as they say.

Hi dande, wow, 5-days. As you can see from that wasn't one of the options I imagined.

What's the point of scheduling a 5 day game between 2 championship teams at the end of their season? It's often that championship games don't last the 4 days they are scheduled (and, a little while back, didn't they play a 3 day game)?

8 down at lunch on the first morning? Does anyone get the impression that the Lancs guys feel this might be a little too much cricket?

God knows why they thought they'd need 5 days at the end of September early October, unless they were planning for 2 days of rain.

The only people who don't think there's too much cricket are those who invented this nonsense, and that hundred nonsense.

78 all out, Luke Wood left high and dry on 46, and it wasn't for him and Bohannon's 17, the card really would make gloomy reading.

Need another Tom Bailey burst to get us back into this one I'm afraid.

Can see why Dom Sibley gets picked for England on his county performances.
He's only got 20 but has looked really positive and to dominate.

Far from the batsman that just tries to survive in an England shirt.

49-0, play stopped due to a heavy shower, unless Lancs get a few wickets this afternoon, we could be staring down the barrel of an innings defeat here.

Crikey this could be one of the biggest mullarings in cricket history, I would have thought it would be a walkover with TPC in the opposition ranks.

May 2021 Lancashire beat Yorkshire by an innings and 79 runs.

Now that's a mullering. :)

You are correct in mullaring being a word mind you. It's an old Scottish word apparently.

It's amazing what you learn on this site sometimes.

Bresnan gets a lot of stick on here from Lancs fans for obvious reasons, but at county level he's a good player with bat and ball, and his experience must have been invaluable to some of the younger Warwickshire players, he knows what it takes to win a championship, and in a tight battle somebody like him is vital.

Good to see the debutant Manraj Johal impress, it's always great to see young English talent emerging, and he looks like he could have a long career ahead of him.
