No idea how we actually deal with parties in negotiations but either way the results have been very poor for the past few years. Cornet was a nice change but we really need to follow that up. What we have isn't enough. Would be a shame to go down with a whimper.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
That’s the last board and again I didn’t know how they did business.
Other than transfers I thought they were fantastic. Our club is now on another level thanks to them.

He's not the single reason but part of a massive reason why we are struggling this season, lack of investment over the last eight or so transfer windows, not strenthing the squad when we finished 7th and played in the Europa that was a perfect time to do it when we were a little more attractive than we are right now

I genuinely don't believe any of us actually understand the full complexities - all good logical points though.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 10:15 amHave you considered these few factors before?
1. We don’t have the finances to put in large bids that get accepted so quickly (we aren’t going to overpay for a Chris wood at £25m just to trigger a release clause for example)
2. It’s January, clubs don’t want to lose players, if they do then they want replacements in themselves
3. Even if we do get bids accepted, we probably aren’t players first choice so they might leave it until late on themselves to see what other options there are.
It seems pretty obvious, does it not?
I'm pretty sure there will be more though;
- Agents fee considerations and wanting to work with the agent and vice versa
- Understanding the players on and off the field
- Work permits etc with some players.
I am also sure (despite what we think is happening) is that all of the things that go on will be happening with several players at any one point.
You also then need to consider that we also probably have players interested but may be not a priority and have to balance our cashflow so that young prospect that could not be a starter is someone we could get in quickly but to do that means we can't finance someone else we are looking at.
I think using a club for leverage probably happens more often than we ever hear/see so I can understand why it takes a lot of effort and time to do these things

The Ramsey deal is another load of bull made up by the media, he's unfit, not played for six month's so won't be ready for weeks, ontop of that are a loan fee and his wage of 400k a week we wouldn't pay him 60k so are Juventus going to pay the rest, fake news move on

If you want to stay in the PL then you need to be able to operate on par with the other 19 clubs in the the way you plan and conduct your transfer dealings. I think the word "savvy" comes to mind.Lot of posters telling us about all the factors that go against poor old club like ours, but I am afraid its par for the course.

Only 6 clubs have signed anyone, and of those I’m not sure there’s many I’d want us to have signed. Trippier & Coutinho & Digne aside.

Newcastle and Watford can’t really be compared to us can they. They throw money about for fun. Norwich, Leeds, Brentford have done nothing. Most clubs have done nothing. There must be a reason for that. There’s still time and I’m confident we’ll do business.

Yes but most of those clubs aren't in dire need of reinforcements and in danger of being cut adrift at the foot of the table are they.
Big week for Pace to deliver the goods, otherwise we might as well have left MG in charge, at least then we wouldn't have the debt mountain.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Course, posting that without any context is easy
Now if you add the rather crucial bits, then its a bit easier to see why we haven't and they have
Newcastle - surely to god you all know that they are backed by a state with billions of pounds and no better idea of what to do with it than buy a club in the NE of England because all the better ones were taken
Watford - owned by a family own a few football clubs, and somehow manage to sign players between them all whenever one of them is in trouble. Its almost like its as bent as it could possibly be, but it can't be that can it?
Suddenly our transfer market activity and what we are up against becomes slightly more realistic doesn't it?

As today is our last match before the window closes and is not a game we are expected to win there is no rush. Signings before deadline are essential.

I don’t get the cut adrift argument. All teams have play each other home and away and have the same opportunity to score points. Until the end of the season the league table is transitionary and doesn’t really matter. Plus, this will only be our second game since the window opened (the other being on the second day) so any incomings have only had two chances to make an impact on our current league position.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 11:55 amYes but most of those clubs aren't in dire need of reinforcements and in danger of being cut adrift at the foot of the table are they.

Maybe we need to go down this year to attract players. Got to be more enticing signing for a team pushing for promotion than one almost certain for relegation?

Over to you Alan.
If we can defend like that for the rest of the season and add a bit of quality in the forward areas we can definitely stay up, especially with three points in our next game.

Wish we could add Mohamed Bayo to that list. Not that my knowledge of Ligue 1 players extends beyond YouTube videos, but he looks decent, only 23, good goal record, very powerful & loves a tap in - we need a poacher like that.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:14 pmFrench league player links - This weekend.

Well, it is all you appear to do
There is a balance between recognising that we could have been more proactive in the transfer market, and abandoning all sense of reality and sounding like someone who thinks football manager is how it works, and I don't think its unfair to say that you've not reached that balance yet
