rising to 35-40 dependent on clauses though

Buying a proven striker in January is probably the most difficult purchase for a club without a wealthy owner. Even more so when you’re weren’t planning on shopping for one. So I think we’ve done pretty well on that score.
Agreed, but it was widely recognised we need midfield/ wide player reinforcements before Wood left. Yes we’ve had the rug pulled on one deal, but the table won’t give a hoot about that come the end of the season.

This I’m afraid is another awful window and my worry is this “profit” from the sale of Wood will not be seen again in respect of incoming players, and it will just be eaten up paying off the clubs debts.

I know plenty of people have mentioned him before but Jed Wallace is still at Millwall. With his contract up this summer I'm sure we could pick him up relatively cheap.
He'd offer us more than JBG, and we know if we go down we've got a great Championship player on our hands.

Yeah, if Everton win the League and Champions League.

Also being reported that there are further add-ons that push the fee closer to £40 million.

Based on his last couple of years, those add-ons won't be paid out.

What happened with the potential signing you had a new article for? Deal just not happening due to his club or decided against coming to us?
No idea - but it does look like another wasted article.

Don't forget free agents can still be signed after the window, might be a bargain or two out there.

Bournemouth sign Nat Phillips, they've absolutely smashed this window.
Success in business is at times studying how your competitors do business-it might be a restaurant, a retailer or a football club. Please AP can you approach Bournemouth to see how they research, approach, qualify and move forward in signing players. I dont recall them failing with anyone this window and they have signed players linked with us, plus players who would have been an upgrade on ours. Plus did they not snatch Ryan Christie who chose them not us last window. There has to be something to learn from their experience. We are currently no threat to them and would be flattered .Maybe its as simple as the persuasiveness of Scotty Parker

Can you say whether it

A. Was for a central midfielder? Or
B. He was English

I have a rule
If I've ever owned or considered owning a player over the last decade playing Fantasy Football, they are not signing for us.

It's worked for Dawson, Bowen, Ward Prouse etc and now will be the same for Origi and Ramsey.
I don't know why anyone is surprised we can neither afford/attract these types of players.

Maybe one exception being Aaron Ramsey, I'd have to check my AOL web history it was that long ago.

Despite Garlick’s failure to invest in the team the new owners have had 3 windows to strengthen the weakest part of the team. So far they haven’t done it. Central Midfield has needed strengthening for as long as I can remember.
So first of all it was Garlick's fault and now Pace

There's one common denominator over all of these transfer windows - Dyche playing his rigid tactic of 4-4-2 with long balls up to a target man and hoping for the best. Plus his allegiance to so many players who are now just not up to it - he most likely still sees Westwood and Cork adding value to the side with Stephens a reliable back up (just like Kevin Long)
As for JBG and Lennon :(

Thank goodness Pace took some lead with the signings of MC and WW this season - they would never have been given a thought by SD

Football has evolved but sadly our manager hasn't, and I would guess a lot of potential signings are not coming to BFC because of him and his old fashioned ways as much as anything else

Worryingly, I fear the same will happen in the summer

All this thread is missing is a poster logging in and asking if there is a loan window after the main window shuts. That’s an annual ‘BINGO’ moment for me.

(Lets get it out of the way nice and early so we can all go and realise that there are loads more important things in the world than telling everyone how annoyed you are at your football club not buying players)

At least we’ll have a fresh and revitalised CM partnership of Westwood and Cork on Saturday. Some things never change.

If we fail to address the midfield issues in this window, it’s quite simply another failure in an ever growing list of poor transfer windows.

Whilst the summer window showed some signs of improvement, it didn’t address the obvious key issues. These issues have come home to roost during the first half of the season.

We’ve had the rug pulled from under us with one transfer but we’ve had more than enough time to assess our shortcomings and be well prepared for this window.

It’d take a brave man to back us to stay up, from this position. Frustratingly, some additional quality in midfield and on the right would probably have seen us much further up the table than we are.

As it stands, this is more of a white flag window and quite what the impact of that will be is more than a little concerning.

Humiliating as it might be, right now we might as well sign Gosling, no?

Injuries and suspensions might leave us beyond desperate. Covid suspension rules have changed too.

He was said to be bottom of our list earlier, if we fail to even sign our desperate 10.59pm 20th pick, then surely that's more embarrassing?

So depressing. So Burnley....

I cannot believe we did not qualify the player and his agent about the seriousness of wanting to change club at a very early stage. Basic principles of buying and selling, more so with the complexities of moving club and relocating your family. So a wasted 7 days including fruitless time from our Chairman. Smacks of naivety and its happened in too many windows to be a one off. Remember Craig Dawson

I might be completely wrong but this reminds me of a match thread when we're getting completely dominated and everyone is having a melt at how naff we've been. And then we sh*thouse a goal and all is forgotten.

I think this is one of those moments and we're going to sh*thouse a signing. Well I hope it is.

Thats an, er, "interesting take"

He changed him mind, after initially telling Dinamo he wanted to leave

In short, the club did exactly what you wanted them to to, and you still think its their fault

An extra £13mil on the balance sheet that wasn’t accounted for before the window will go down well with people that act like the clubs finances are their own money.

They throw more money at it, than we could ever dream of.
Recruitment, Parker have nothing to do with it, just money.

Not good is it. But at least (so far) we have kept Tarkowski, Pope and McNeil.

If this transfer window only brings in one single player, then I'd love to see anyone defend this by the club once it goes past 11pm
The same people saying not to judge them until the window closed will be saying it's unfair to judge them because they tried really hard and it was impossible to do better

Prove literally any of what you said and I will consider it.
However what we do know is:
-Dyche uses and has always employed analytics and data science.
-Dyche has previously attempted to use the foreign market, not often with success but has still tried - Defour, Hennings, Mumbongo, Vossen and Ulvestad being our overseas signings.
-Garlick was said to have opposed using foreign markets, and mistrusted our scouting of these markets- which will be more data science than boots on ground.
-Pace appears to be more onboard with analytics and overseas transfers.
-Pace makes lots of noise and show about being hands on but his hit rate is not much different to Garlick.

I have no idea where you get this idea from that Dyche doesn't want anybody but Championship cloggers and it is purely down to Saint Alan of Utah and his footballing genius despite being new to the sport 12 months ago and openly surprised at the role of agents in transfers, that we are so lucky as to sign anybody at all. If they were so at odds and Dyche is such a problem
It's bizarre and sycophantic and based far more in what you want to perceive than any available evidence.
From what we CAN see- Dyche and Pace are more in alignment on transfer approach than Dyche and Garlick which might return higher quality deals (jury still out on Roberts and Collins due to gametime) but it is still struggling to produce much in the way of a greater number of deals over the line and has not resulted in a noticeable change in funds available.

Tbf, I don't think Pope or McNeil were ever going to be sold in this window.

There is still a chance but it doesn't appear anything is happening right now.
Sounds like you’re edging your bets either way.

The team will be actively speaking to clubs, agents, players right until they can’t.

Plenty of time left.

I believe that one of the CT articles penned is for Ashley Barnes. He’ll be like a new signing…
