Well I did and I had 100's of them. And I'm not ashamed to admit that some were bought when I wasn't a kid. :)

It's where I learned to speak German, well not every day use German, but still, it was German.
One of my cousin's used to collect those Commando ones and let us read them after he had.
I haven't seen them around for years, just the large omnibus ones.

I see Ukrainian snipers are doing well taking out senior commanders.
A regimental, divisional and the Deputy commander of the 41st combined arms Army....

Can only assume they're showing clear markings that they're senior officers despite being in the field.

I think I had some Warlords

But I got my first "proper" history book when I was 11 for my birthday (still got it) from my dad

Been hooked ever since

Doesn't change the fact that this is absolutely horrible and I'd be more than happy if this thing stopped right now like

I've virtually a library full of war history, British Empire books as well.

It's not until you become an older adult that you truly understand the horrors of war.

I'm not going to share them on here, but think about all those pics on Russian smart phones and laptops

Its an information war the like the world has never seen, and the Ukrainians have absolutely nailed, which explains Russian attempts to block anything that isn't official sanctioned war propaganda

I just don't see how they can stop millions of Russians looking at the official news, seeing the stuff on their phones, and realising that whatever is going on, its not what the official news are saying

That sounds optimistic

I suspect what you'd see is a huge ramp up of bombing and missile strikes on cities, while they try to reorganise their ground troops

But they are definitely stuck in front of places like Kyi'v, Kharki'v and Chernigi'v

However, they are still doing ok in the south

I would say if the Russian are as badly off as the report says, then the US/NATO would know that as well, and they'd be telling that to the Ukrainians, and they'd be pushing back really hard

I think we'll have to wait and see with this one

Lots of articles similar to that around

They are all drawing the same conclusions as well

I'd love to know what is working in the south, but not working at all in the north

Trading space for time?

I don't think its that now

Quality of troops better?

The NATO trained Ukrainian troops are certainly around Kiev, but there must be combat experienced troops all over the front, due to the ongoing fighting in the East

Who knows?

I’m not sure that the south has been all that successful if honest but has certainly seemed to have more success than the north.

Some possible/ likely reasons

1. The ground much more firm in the South than in the North
2. Mainly conscripts in North the fact it is mainly Naval soldiers in the south means they are mostly professional. Motivation clearly different
3. Equipment maybe better maintained in the South some of the stuff captured around Kyiv has had obvious maintenance issues (oil leaking from wheel hubs cheap/ flat tyres etc)
4. Whilst I think there has been some ground for time going, I read quite early on that the ground outside of crimea was very open so perfect for Russias Tanks and air to ground aircraft SU 25 etc. so it was expected that the Ukrainians would give up all that anyway as they would have been torn to shreds if they hadn’t.

That said there success at engaging low level air targets with man pads and Armour with NLAW and Javelin may have negated it not sure.

IKEA will be owned by IKEA, Mcdonalds and KFC are franchises so will be owned by Russians, with the profit they make it will probably be Putin's buddies, the meat etc. will all be sourced locally as well.

Without sounding like I'm on a wind up, I'm reasonably sure there isn't a legal reason to rescind them, I'm sure they don't have a "Your leader is a warmongering dick" clause.

Why didn’t Ukraine join NATO a few weeks/months ago when the threat of invasion was obviously substantially increasing. Was their request refused or were they so naive that they didn’t think Russia would invade?

Anyone got any reliable information?

Multiple reports of a counter offensive by the Ukrainians around Kharkiv. Not sure of the extent of the moment.

Still very heavy fighting to the north and west of Kyiv. Russian attacks have been stopped in their tracks.

Also, one interesting thread discussed the improbability of a complete encirclement of Kyiv. This will likely need manpower up to the equivalent of 90 battle groups. Not going to happen.

Also 90-95% of Russian forces amassed at the border have now been deployed into Ukraine. More units being drafted in by Russia from the Eastern military districts, however, the equipment being pulled together looks obsolete.

That had to be faked. Russia deny using conscripts to begin with. They under report losses, and anyone who steps out of the propaganda line is heading for Siberia.
It's not that I don't want it to be true, although I fear the Russian conscripts are as much a victim in this as the Ukrainians, but every success of the defenders has to be lauded.

It does lift the spirit to see signs of humanity in this mad world.
The local village hall has been collecting all sorts of items to send to the Ukraine. Sanitary products, warm clothing, and as I live next to an army base any unwanted bullet proof vests and head gear (I kid you not). Anyway the place has been heaving for 3 days, cars queuing up to get into the car park. They have so much stuff it's spilled outside. It gives me a sense of pride everytime I pass, even though I had nothing to do with organising it.

More analysis of the Russian air force

Again, unless there is a war none of us are seeing (and that is impossible in the era of the camera phone) then hard to argue with the conclusion

At first I thought the likes of Ikea shutting their shops was of little importance. But now I realise it's crucial for as many Western companies to do so because it will show the Russian people something is going on. They are by and large isolated from the truth and things like this will hopefully raise awareness.

At first I thought the likes of Ikea shutting their shops was of little importance. But now I realise it's crucial for as many Western companies to do so because it will show the Russian people something is going on. They are by and large isolated from the truth and things like this will hopefully raise awareness.
Yup, they can see Russia going backwards 30 years in a week and they are just going to accept that?

I seriously doubt it

Again, "Russian controlled areas" are nothing of the sort

That advance to Kyiv from Sumy on that narrow axis can't be right, that is absolute madness when based the effects of supply has had in the war so far

Or will they be bullshitted into believing it is a huge anti-Russia campaign by the West?

I have an old friend who is absolutely convinced Putin is in the right, that Ukraine had it coming and the whole thing is being distorted by the Atlanticist conspiracy. When I asked him about how he explains the media crackdown by Putin he asserts that it is because there is a US funded fifth column in Russia. He even cited Woodrow Wilson saying that Russia was ‘too big’ after WW1 as evidence that the US is determined to break up the country. Just shows the extent to which people will believe what they want to! He purported not to understand what I was talking about when I suggested that it was not going entirely to plan.

Not intended as a political comment..or any kind of justification for the throwback that is Putin...I hope that him and his tribe of savages have a similar end to Saddam's.

..but I really hope nobody thinks that brainwashing and misleading the proles is purely an Eastern bloc tactic.
Our own masses are thoroughly brainwashed to an equal extent and for remarkably similar reasons..namely to enable our masters to keep firm control over us.
