Any US casualties?

There is a tonne of stuff going on, but the situation hasn't changed that much on the grounddermotdermot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 8:55 pmThis thread has gone awfully quiet all of a sudden. Is this a good or bad sign?
Russia are clearly building up supplies and ammo, while absolutely pulverising any cities they can hit, with the clear aim of forcing million more to flee, as I think they feel that is unsustainable
End of the day, everyone is struggling to see an "out" for Russia, and as long as they can't see an "out", then Russia will continue to kill Ukrainians and get its army completely chewed up in Ukraine.
I saw a pic of a plane load of Chechens heading for Belarus, but if they are bringing in what are essentially paramilitaries used to impress local folk then all they are doing is increasing their supply burden, increasing the danger of war crimes and increasing their casualty lists
I think Ukraine will probably give up the Crimea in return for an end to the war, almost certainly give up any hope of joining NATO, and as long as it doesn't have to "de militarise", then its perfectly safe for sometime as the Russians won't forget this in a hurry
But who knows?

I saw a sad image on twitter today of a car crushed by a tank, the two adults died in the crush and the teenager in the back trapped and burnt to death. - the sooner this horrific war is over the better. The Kremlin has a lot to answer for.
All the signs are this is down to one man Putin.

Ex soviet states have joined NATO for fear Russia needs to take back the land that was the USSR. Which it needs to as geopolitically Russia is dying.
Taking Ukraine was always in Putins plan, nothing the west did would change it.
Re: Russia Invades
Putin put himself in a corner. NATO didn't force the invasion. I'm convinced, and will be convinced of this until the day I die, that Putin's primary fear is democracy, not NATO, encroaching on Russia's borders. He fears following the fate of Gaddafi more than he fears the establishing of US military bases in Ukraine.

This is something for political affect, rather than any realistic military use
*see also missile strikes on Western Ukraine
All to do with convincing everyone how strong the Russian air force is (and its unfortunately swallowed by the BBC.ITV etc (been concentrating on those missile strikes on Western Ukraine) ) while the expert assessment continues to be that the Russian air force cannot penetrate Ukrainian air space to the degree they actually can affect Ukrainian logistics and resupply

Claims from "Unknown US Officials" that Putin has sought military support from China.
The Chinese Embassy in the USA is denying any such request has been made.
There's also a growing belief that Russia will target a NATO country with a missile attack.

Evil and disgusting as the Russian policy is, the majority will avoid any examination of the bigger picture...there are a lot of very uncomfortable truths out there. Particularly around how we've dived into bed with the whole cesspit that is Russian politics.
Make no mistake, a good chunk of the responsibility for the current situation lies with us.

Don’t think politics here, think Mafia. There are no politics in Russia anymore. Putin is head of a gang that has siphoned billions out of the Russian economy and UK/EU has helped him stash the loot. He sees the Ukraine as a rival gang who were doing quite well on what he considers to be his patch. The politics is all a front for asset seizure pretty much like Nazi Germany was. Just read Schindlers List, it explains how the whole scam works.Spiral wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 12:19 amPutin put himself in a corner. NATO didn't force the invasion. Demonise the Jews, rob them. Slavs next then the rest of Europe.
Putin’s mission seems to be to bankrupt the Ukraine and neuter their operation and create dependency on Russia and allow them to move in and extend their own operation.
Remember the US and Uk flattening Iraqi infrastructure and the big fat contracts that went out to mainly US Companies to rebuild it paid for by Iraqi oil?
Same job here, only it will be wheat and minerals as payment.

It’s difficult to see how his can end for the better unless there is some sort of coup in Russia. They can’t all buy the propaganda particularly the army who can see what is happening and what they are being asked to do on the ground. It can’t all be silenced.

He has isolated himself, through fear of an internal coup, and the more Western influences on Russia, the greater the fear. The further the Russian people move away from tired, old Communist policy the greater the fear. There are issues over the Ukrainian coup, and the loss of his puppet in charge, but to see Ukrainians enjoying life, and Russians enjoying life, is his greatest fear, not NATO. He basically doesn't care who he hurts in order to stay in power, because once it's gone he's nobody. In fact there are probably plenty of people he's hurt over the years who would see it as a sign to get payback.

Not been mentioned so far s I know, but yes there were reports yesterday that Radyrov (Crimea puppet leader) was in Ukraine - mainly mentioned by Ukraine to test the validity. It seems IF he was it was purely for Russian propaganda purposes and possibly for just minutes. Ukraine put out immediate seek and destroy units, but he had probably left even before the search began.

Re: Russia Invades
I doubt any of the regular posters on here have any ill feeling towards ‘everyday Russians’ - this is no longer a Russia we recognise as post-Glasnost, it has returned to Stalinism, and far from Communist.
Modern political modelling is no longer linear, as it used to be, but circular- go too far left, you go into extreme right - what very much seems to have happened with Putin. In new political modelling the extremes of Right/Left are close bedfellows - true Marxism sits a way to the left of Russia - and has done since Trotsky ‘got his ice pick, that made his ears burn’ (as the Stranglers once put it).

I don't think it was mentioned but China very recently doubled the exchange rate regarding Yuan to Ruble, allowing the Ruble to to fall fast in value, so China have taken advantage of the situation now and are not subsidizing the Russia in this situation.

I agree, was merely sharing some news regarding China and their input so far and what might happen, up until very recently they had done nothing, they abstained in the UN vote when many expected them to vote with Russia, they "appear" to be keeping well away from upsetting the financial system that has served them well up to now, once they embraced that part of capitalism.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 12:45 pmWhile far from impossible, it is extremely unlikely that China/India would voluntarily remove itself from the WTO… it would be tantamount to ending trade with the West ( and an end to the very Tech that has built Chin’s economic success).
This move for me is significant in allowing the Ruble to drop sharply and they will gain monetarily from the Russian economy being in the toilet, while not joining in regarding sanctions they closed an avenue, which was helping the Russian economy to some degree. By doing this it is contributing to the Russian financial hurt, which I think will be a main reason for the downfall and Putin's willingness to negotiate and allow a "retreat" through Ukraine concessions, but ultimately leading to a stop to this evil war.
I believe he never expected the fight on the ground or financially that has happened, but for him and his cronies it is only really the financial actions that have hurt them personally, it will obviously be someone else's fault and not there's.
