I’d take Wilder or Bilic out of the names mentioned. Nobody else excites me or I see it as too much of a risk. Farke at least has promotions under his belt from the Championship, I do believe that needs to be a pre-requisite (just my thoughts). I am slightly more risk averse than most though, hence my reticence around sacking Dyche, and concern over appointing an unknown such as Kompany, Duff or the Norwegian fellow.
same here, not overly excited about any of them. If we were allowed to loan 15 players I'd take Kompany and bring in Man City's U23's !

Just to play devils advocate, Burnley weren’t letting Owen Coyle go in 2010.
Wilder can force it, should he really want it.
Wasn’t there some kind of shady skullduggery on Bolton’s part in all that?
Did Brendan Flood give the Bolton Chairman Owen Coyle’s mobile phone number in good faith which turned out was the ‘permission’ for them to speak to him without tapping him up, or something like that? Not sure if it was true or not.

My knowledge of Belgian football is not the best, but has Kompany done that good a job at Anderlecht? They're one of the top clubs in Belgium, if not THE top club, yet finished third with them last year and are a distant third again this year. Fantastic player and captain but is he there as a coach?

Well, people were unhappy with Dyche’s performance with us at this level
(for the last 18 months not overall) so wanted his removal - Farke has done worse than him at this level and as good as at the level below, so it can’t be constituted as anything but a downgrade surely?
All a manager has to do is improve on the recent record, which most managers could improve upon imo. Performance wise cant get much worse than what we saw at Norwich.

I think they’ve had financial difficulties and he’s gone with a very young squad, but yes - 8th, 3rd, 3rd might not be considered the best record in that league. Who knows?

They aren't the top side in Belgium, Club Brugge are. Union are a newly promoted side who finished top of the league, huge shock. Union owned by Tony Bloom who owns Brighton.
Anderlecht were at war with the owner when Kompany went in, the owner used Kompany to get the fans off his back. He's rebuilt them back up the table and refreshed that side with some serious young talent.

Pretty sure said Chairman may have had the number given he had recommended Coyle to Burnley in the first place.

Calls for the likes of Wilder, Bilic and Farke puzzle me. We’ve just seen far better leave the building.
To be fair although this is true, he has left the building so we are now ina position of being better than the current team. So so eone who (sone of us) feel would be a downgrade could well be a decent appointment in the circumstances.
Bilic would be my choice mainly because when he was doing well preciously I always thought if we lost Dyche he would be a good replacement

He got 34 points in the finally third of third of the season, if that's not ******* great then perhaps we are judging it differently. ******* hell, give up, will you?
I think you'll find it's 24 points not 34 from the final 3rd of the season, give up, will you.
Like I said originally Dyche had no history or experience when we appointed him, unless we count a 3rd of a season

Some Burnley fan's have their heads up their own arse with some of the comments on here about certain manager's linked, do they really think we are to good or big for some of these name's and the likes of Rooney aren't good enough for us, we've put up with almost two year's of crap football yet none of them can replace Dyche. Some bang on about experience yet Dyche was appointed with just one average season under his belt and look how that worked out he was our best manager for probably 60 year's.

People act like we haven't been total crap for 18 months, most of the managers linked would've done a better job over that period of time imo.

I see Wilder is now even money. He has a huge house round the corner from me and I was chatting to somebody recently who is a longstanding family friend. From what people say Wilder is a fairly down to earth likeable guy,.
The bit that would interest me about Wilder is what he would do with better players, which we have (OK, we’ll lose them if we drop, I accept). Sheff United and definitely Boro had worse than we have, that Sheffield team that mullered us at the Lane in the first year they were up had few players of the quality we possess (central midfield the exception though I did like their right wing back).
From how he has remained steadfast at Boro, with his three at the back and flexible overloading centre halfs no matter who they play, it is clear what our tactics would be under him, certainly more dynamic than we have had under Dyche. The irony would be that would have allowed Tarky to express himself but as he will be off he won't get the chance.
We’ll see, but I’m not expecting Wilder this season, too big a tactical change for a quick 7 games.

Agreed. Is Dyche the same manager he was? Would he have kept us in the Premier League? Would he have got us promoted again from the Championship? I don't think the answer to either question is certain. The Dyche who achieved those things is a tough act to follow.
On the other hand, Burnley have only been going one way for a while now. The football has been poor. The results have been poor. That, at least short-term is not that hard to replace. Is that down to Dyche and things becoming stale (as has been suggested by some media outlets)? Or is it because there hasn't been enough investment in the squad? It's probably a bit of both.
Either way, while I don't agree with the timing of the sacking, I also don't know its circumstances. I'm hopeful we can make a forward-thinking appointment that can keep pushing Burnley forward.

we were going backwards at an alarming rate, people suddenly want to pretend Dyche had us flying and playing well, are we forgetting we've won 4 games all season? Nobody cares where we finished 4 years ago, we need someone to turn the momentum around, someone to stop the downward trend.
The new manager just has to improve on the 4 wins all season to be an upgrade on Dyche. I'm confident most of the managers linked would have us playing better than we did against Brentford and Norwich. It's just a shame Dyche didn't go sooner imo because we'd probably have survived if he did.

Rafa Benitez. has the know how to possibly save this season, if he doesn't he has experience of the championship. Wouldnt want to give him too long a contract but I would be happy with him for 12mth/2yr to stabilize the ship.

Kompany does seem an extremely unlikely suggestion but IF his ambition is to be a PL manager and IF he and his family want to return to NW England then the Championship might just be a useful stepping stone toward that goal.
...the power of positive thought...

Clearly I was talking in months, let's go on your 24 points. Not bad is it? Even if you still think it is, hardly a manager with zero experience as you originally stated.

Anyone could have said that. As vague as ever. It’s the type of thing you’d hear on the old club call phone line except you’d have paid to hear about nothing.

Excellent post CM, and some posters seem to think we're in a position to attract managers with PL experience, can't see it myself and as long as we appoint someone who'll bring some new ideas to the table, and generate the excitement back into the club that'll do me, the past 2 years have been dire to witness, and something had to give, so let's hope the next 2 years offer some progress, and perhaps more importantly the promise of youth emerging, this latter point was Sean's big failing in his final few seasons, far too many experienced pro's retained when they should have been shown the door, now the prospect of a new dawn might finally see some of the more promising youngsters get their chance, and let's be honest they can hardly fare any worse than what we've produced for the past 2 seasons, so give them a whirl in my view, especially if we do end up back in the Championship.

Nope the opposite. He was the only one reporting it was happening.
His article is basically that Pace is heading to Europe to speak to a manager today. All domestic options appear off the cards. Also says that we want to appoint a permanent manager rather than previously reported interim.

The arrogance on this board is incredible. If a manager such as Benitez is even half interested in us then we should roll out the red carpet.
I can’t help but think that there are going to be some very underwhelmed fans on appointment day

I'm not sure that is correct?
The first hints came out of France, and the mainstream journalists only got on board when it (with hindsight) obvious that it was happening
The journalists in France who said it was happening were spot on from the start, despite all of us refusing to believing it!

I don't really rate Nixon, but I think he was the first one to mention we are interested in Cornet. It was in early July if I'm not wrong.

Yeah he was definitely the first. And then a few French journos got involved closer to the deal time.

Hmm, almost sure the story broke in France first (as it should do to be honest!)
But my memory might well be playing tricks with me
Lets hope he on the money with what he's reporting today then

I see Nixon’s expanded from betting markets to trying to charge for his stories.
I’d be deeply sceptical about anything he has to say these days. It’s in his interests to fill his new site with stories, true or not, to keep you paying the fees.

Simon Jordan just this minute on TalkSport has stated Chris Wilder visited Turf Moor as a guest recently!
No if that's not right Jordan could be in trouble
He seems to think Chris Wilder will be Burnley manager

I think if he’s going to Europe it will be Diego Martinez.

The next manager MUST have a good record at developing young players and bringing them through to the first team.

According to this thread we are looking for the following
Experience of bringing youth players through
History of playing attractive attacking football
At least one promotion from the championship on their record
Experience of managing on the premier league including successfully navigating a relegation battle
Ability to win more than 4 games in a season
Should be straight forward for Pace to build a shortlist

The arrogance on this board is incredible. If a manager such as Benitez is even half interested in us then we should roll out the red carpet.
I can’t help but think that there are going to be some very underwhelmed fans on appointment day
Why is it Arrogant to want a good manager. why wouldn't Benitez be interested for 7 games maybe a yr if approached with a good offer.

Clearly how ever you want to twist it to fit the final 3rd of the season is the last 15 games, and that's fact not what I think
Just to clarify. Your two main points of Dyche having ZERO experience and him not having a cracking end to the season were both wrong. I'll leave it at that, I'm sure you won't.

Because we aren’t a particularly attractive proposition at this moment in time. We aren’t going to attract anybody even close to the level of Benitez therefore having clowns on here stipulating that we should just give him long enough to stabilise us before firing him off is just laughable

I'm not sure that is correct?
The first hints came out of France, and the mainstream journalists only got on board when it (with hindsight) obvious that it was happening
The journalists in France who said it was happening were spot on from the start, despite all of us refusing to believing it!
Well given I follow you on Twitter but not Nixon, I think I can safely blame you if I've got this one wrong

What makes you think that, out of interest?

How is a club that was paying their last manager close to £100,000 a week, not an attractive proposition? you're incredibly naive if you don't think money talks.
