Fine with Bilic as well
I'd be fine with Wilder btw, but it would all be a bit meh, and I really need to not feel like going to Burnley is meh on a regular basis

I wonder what odds I'd get on this thread reaching, 100 pages before we appoint a new manager

Re: Name the next manager
Keep us up maybe not, but he's got a track record at getting out of the Championship on a relatively small budget, and that's exactly what we'll need next season should we go down.KefkaClaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 6:14 pmI don't think Bilic is the man to keep us up or get us promoted next season. He struggled to get West Brom promoted.
And look at the state of West Brom since he left, I'd say he did a pretty fair job with them, and he also did great at West Ham for a period.
Bilic is probably one of the better options if we want to go down the experienced route, and he has knowledge of both the PL and the Championship.
Plus he's available right now as he's out of work currently.

Blake's boots, you only joined last Saturday and this is the third time at least, that you have touted Emma Hayes.Blakesboots wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 6:01 pmPersonally, I would like us to offer the role to Emma Hayes. She is a premier league coach in the making!

A woman manager is right up Pace's list of things to attract business to Burnley Business.

Re: Name the next manager
I think someone with continental connections would fit the owners recruitment model. Bilic would be ok but you have to question his motives. Anyone who goes to China is going purely for cash. It’s either the tried and tested route, an up and coming manager or someone from overseas. The last two options could be gambles. Are we looking to steady the ship and bounce back or completely change how we recruit and play ? I’m not sure Wilder excites me a great deal. A change in the way we play against different opposition would be an improvement instead of such a rigid predictable formula every game.
Re: Name the next manager
This might sound underwhelming but how about Chris Hughton?
I thought he did an excellent job at Brighton in both the Championship and the Premier League (I know his recent spell at Forest wasn't great, but that is a basket case of a club)

They seem to be doing rather well since he left
Re: Name the next manager
You can say Forest are a basket case but Cooper took over and will be the first manager ever to put a side without a point In the first 7 games into the play offs. We need to be aiming for a Cooper type.

I was a big fan of Hughton when he was at both Brighton and Newcastle, but he was very disappointing in his last two spells, which may have finished him off morale wise

Fair one
But of some of the names doing the rounds I think his experience and relative success in both leagues makes him the strongest of the 'meh' candidates.

Not keen on Hughton didn’t mind him until his handling of the Jay Rod situation and effectively branding our fanbase racist for booing Bong in a subsequent fixture.
On the basis of that he can take a running jump as far as I’m concerned.

Aren't you bored enough at the Turf already?
I don't want to go to a football match to be bored. I put up with it from SD because of what he'd given us over the years and there were reasons, but from the start?
Not a chance for me

Re: Name the next manager
Carvalhal smacks of a Laws MK II appointment, and he's had 21 clubs in his management career, averaging almost one a year, hardly suggests someone who'll be in it for the long haul.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 10:27 amPut it this way I certainly hope Nixon is wrong about carvalhal

I don't agree with blaming managers for owners financial mismanagement.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 10:39 amMost sheff weds fan I could see on his leaving post seemed happy at it? Re: Name the next manager
There’s a sheff weds fan replied to Nixons post saying 1 decent season and then fell away rapidly.
Not sure tbh, he certainly not a manager I thought we would go for or be remotely interested in. Very much smacks of desperation to me.
Re: Name the next manager
They reached the Play off final and then finished 4th. Which is one good season? surely that's 2. Rio Ave record points haul, won the Portuguese cup last year with Braga, they were in the EL quarter finals, lost a close tie to Rangers with 9 men. He wouldn't be top of my list but neither would Critchley at Blackpool who's achieved nowhere near the same.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 10:42 amThere’s a sheff weds fan replied to Nixons post saying 1 decent season and then fell away rapidly.

This is an interesting article on him reinventing himself in Portugal with a new tactical approach

Would be the totally wrong appointment in my opinion. We need someone to come in and build the club back up. I think if he came in would be out of desperation. (I.E none of the original targets were available)

Sky Sports speak to Dean Marney who says that, in his opinion, Burnley may want a "young, up-and-coming manager". He mentions Michael Duff (my first choice) and Wayne Rooney.

Re: Name the next manager
Logic from some of you makes no sense. Dyche who has 2 promotions from 2 full seasons is not good enough anymore, but Carvalhal who has 2 play-offs from the same amount of seasons + a relegation with Swansea is suddenly a good appointment.

Re: Name the next manager
I don't have an issue with the thinking here
Look, if we are going to change how we play and how we approach games, then this summer with all the out of contract players is the perfect time to do it
I just don't want to be bored at football matches anymore, and anyone who can get us attacking a lot more with better football will get my support
I'll really struggle with more of the same unfortunately

Historical results doesn't mean everything, if football was played based on previous results, the same team would win the same trophy every season.

Re: Name the next manager
No but they are a good indicator of pedigree. That’s why the top managers keep getting top jobs.
Real Madrid didn’t sign Ancelotti based on his Everton form. They based it on the fact he has won championship in 4 of europes top 5 leagues. He is currently set to make it 5 out of 5 the first manager ever to do that.

Re: Name the next manager
You could also flip that logic and say Carvajal reached the Europa League quarter finals and lost in extra time with 9 men, Dyche couldn't even get out of the qualifying rounds.
Re: Name the next manager
Why do you think Carvalhal would be a good appointment? His previous record in English football shows that he's a decent mid-table Championship manager, nothing more. The fact that he's won a cup in a weak Portugal league means absolutely nothing to me. If we go with your logic, why don't we bring Brian Laws back? Historical results mean nothing so he could improve us.
And I seriously think that many of you overestimate achievements while evaluating a manager. There are several clubs who perform well each season, but that doesn't mean their manager is a new Mourinho.
For example, I live in Croatia and sporadically watch Dinamo games. They had some decent results in Europa League over the last few years but I would never touch any of their managers.
