I don’t think you wrote anything that was wrong or having a go at any other poster, so it will probably be fine.

What I will say is the only reason this thread still exists is due to the moderator who I think is doing a good job. It stays mainly on topic now.
Nothing wrong with it at all, but its the narrative that is being spun in the Uk (and other countries) by the press and the government

Its not actually true, but its not a biggy as the NATO/EU/UK/US/US Allies worldwide coalition is still holding up really well (and will continue to do so)

But there are going to be real challenges coming up with the economic hits that are coming, but it really is something that is manageable (with help, and not "help" like 2 year MOTs)

Good video, does show people from a distance being killed, so caution be advised.

Just been on Ian King live.
Apparently both Polands and Bulgarias contracts run out at the end of the year.
Poland was not looking to do another contract, it’s been trying to move away from Russian gas.

Didn’t really say much about Bulgaria s new contract.

So low hanging fruit, but might just be firing a warning shot to other customers.

Also says 4 companies have paid Putin in Rubles already.
Apologies for those who don’t subscribe.

I really enjoy Operator Starsky's videos. They're clearly propaganda, but he doesn't really hide that fact. I mean he is an official press officer for their military so that's not really in question. Still, he's very good at his job and comes across as very likeable.

Presume Germany have paid in roubles ? As the EU powerhouse they seem remarkably quiet where oil and gas are concerned after briefly sabre rattling then sh1tting their pants when they realised cutting off Vlads oil could be messy. Yes they’ve provided 1bn in military etc ( fair play) but they just have an almost “ France in early wwII” air about then imo . Of course not directly comparable but still…

Hungary (to no ones shock) are of course paying for Russian oil and gas in roubles. They say they have no choice because of infrastructure but if I was NATO or the EU I'd be seriously thinking about whether that country actually gets what being in either means

KYIV INDEPENDENT - Despite reductions of Oil imports, Gas imports from Russia have increased

And the Finish analysis suggests that the EU has contributed B$46.3 in imported fuel, with Germany on her own responsible for B$9.6 of energy.

Good old Mutti Merkel, she ran the German armed forces down to nothing and made Germany dependant on Russian fossil fuels. One of the reasons why Europe is in this mess.

US asks for £33 billion in military support for Ukraine

Again, this is where having a cold war experienced President really helps, he knows they can massively outspend Russia (and essentially that is what forced regime change in the 80s) , and if that is the road that Putin goes down, then they can make sure he cannot possibly win it

Caving in just let's Putin think he has us by the short and curlies, and therefore will carry on bombing the hell out of Ukraine.
I don't doubt Germany are in a difficult situation, but that's life, you bite the bullet and deal with it. Nothing would frighten Putin more
I've also said previously that we should share whatever supplies we have across Europe, so that no cou try takes a bigger hit than the next. If we don't then fractures will open in the alliance, and Putin would claim another victory.

Germany really needs to grow a pair, and we need to help them.

Absolutely agree with this post. We should all pool our resources to the extent we can regarding the infrastructure to get it to its destination, then all take equal hits. Although how acceptable this would be politically I don’t know.

Germany’s reliance on Russian gas is a massive energy strategy failure though.

The EU will pool its resources (good thread somewhere on how Italy has already halved it reliance, and Germany are planning to end it reliance by the end of the year) but the overall reliance on Russian oil/gas will take time to change

But it is changing, and within 12-18 months Russia won't have the market in Europe for its oil and gas

Regarding the energy reliance on Russia, its cheap and by making them reliant on our money, the idea was that they would be constrained by that so that stuff like this didn't happen

I think that was a fairly safe bet, but Putin has convinced himself that we wouldn't react, that Ukraine was desperate to join Russia and that his armed forces were a lot better than they actually are, and here we are

Regarding Germany btw, if Merkel hadn't retired, there is no chance that Putin would have risked this I suspect

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I believe Germany thought bringing Russia into major business deals, would lessen the likelihood of conflict in the future. Who knew that Putin would become a paranoid fruitcake.
It is what it is, we just need to deal with it, without offering Putin a bone.

Which tbf, has worked

Europe is now a system of democracies, with settled borders (with small exceptions, which are exploited when it suits politicians) and massively interlinked economies, and a standard of living that is greater than it has been

All that explains the unity versus Russia, because they threaten that because they think and live in the past and won't/can't accept the realities of the changes since WWII

The Moscow 9th May victory parade is about half the size this year, which is almost certainly due to the need for combat equipment to be in Ukraine

It's not life or death, but I wanted to ask someone on this thread a question without derailing the thread. Nor do I wish to create a new topic. Anyway, thanks for any answers. :)

Before this war I didn’t really look at Twitter, didn’t understand how it works, I had to ask on here how to copy a link. Now all this stuff from the war appears on my Twitter, probably an algorithm because I followed a few on the front line.

But I agree some unbelievable videos.
I’m not on twitter, so often can’t scroll through everything posted, but some are just unbelievable - really opened my eyes to the horrors of warfare.

Sorry. this has never come up for me before. Are private messages disabled for everyone or I have sometime in the distant past made some sort of naughty post that got me put into the sin bin?

It's not life or death, but I wanted to ask someone on this thread a question without derailing the thread. Nor do I wish to create a new topic. Anyway, thanks for any answers. :)
I also get 'You are not authorised to read private messages' on my Private Message tab.

Also on my profile where it says 'Contact Hipper' it's not possible to send a private message, but on Control Panel/Board Preferences it says 'yes' to 'users can contact me' or send 'private messages'.

I suspect all this is to do with the Board model chosen by the administrators but they haven't enabled some of the facilities.

I'm not a particularly naughty boy (although I notice on my Control Panel I'm on a 'Warning Level 1' for some unknown reason).

Phillips OBRien - Putin takes control of Ukrainian ‘special operation’ personally and has delighted his day to day running of Russia to the Prime Minister. News that PO believes is good news for the Ukraine defenders.

China announces it is moving into a more open market model, ending monopoly trading as President XI seems to be edging further away from the Putin position.
