Tarkowski is going to take some replacing isn't he. His departure leaves us with one almighty hole to full.

He was outstanding once again and will be a massive miss. What a player he's been for us.

Incredible level of consistency too - hardly missed a game and rarely turned in a disappointing performance. Huge boots to fill.

I thought Tarkowski might not show up this season but how wrong I was proved.

He has been simply brilliant for us and it's a shame he didn't win wider recognition and more England caps. I wouldn't mind so much if a Rio Ferdinand or similar had kept him out of the setup but the likes of Conor Coady and Tyrone Mings simply aren't as good as Tarks.

Good luck to him.

I hope he goes to West Ham and gets in the England squad, his attitude has been exemplary

Let's hope he doesn't sign for Everton unless he fancies another relegation fight and still no nearer the England team.

He'll get in the England squad now, wherever he moves to.

"I thought Tarkowski might not show up this season but how wrong I was proved."

I seem to remember a lot on here suggesting he hadn't in some games before Feb and the chairman mentioning he was on board as he'd spoken to him. I remember a couple of shaky games but on the whole he has been excellent for us IMHO.

Absolute beast of a man. He didn't down his tools knowing he was off he carried on and put in some monster performances. Top player, one we will talk about for years.

Some of the comments about him after and around the Leeds game were really, really poor. Disrespectful at best.

He’s been the best centre half I’ve ever seen playing for Burnley. I’ve a lot of belief in what Collins can become - if he’s even half as good as Tarkowski has been, I’ll be made up!

Wherever Tarkowski ends up, it’s our loss and their gain.

it's the prime example of how to conduct yourself, while it being clear you're running down your contract. Very professional and a true measure of the man

Everyone has bad games just as everyone has good games. It seems some couldn’t wait for him to have a bad game.

As you know, I’ve watched Burnley a lot longer than you have but I have Tarky right up there as one of the best I’ve seen.

Totally agree. After just a couple of off games, which was a complete rarity from him, a handful of people on here were saying he's not committed, he's overrated, he's a lump and should be dropped. One of those was a self-proclaimed football expert. Very recently another poster was trying to convince people he remained uncommitted. Astonishing.

A big thank you from me too.
Could have dropped off and I admit to being concerned when he gave Newcastle their goal away, when it looked as though he was off there!

However, another fine season full of headers and incredible blocks and tackles.

Thank you James Tarkowski, a credit to yourself and Burnley FC. Best wishes.

Easily the best centre half I've seen play for Burnley and a really sound guy to boot. Massive boots to be filled. Also has a very nice house.

Been excellent for his time here. Shame he didn’t get the england caps he deserved. Dunno why that would be the case, perhaps his pace? Thing is, he LOOKS slow because of his size, but I can’t ever remember him being shown up because of it.

As for his commitment, I stand by my comments he has showed us (the club) none. Had he been committed he would have signed another deal. He may well have been committed to keep us up, but not to the club. That’s fair enough though if he wants to try himself somewhere else, but let’s not mistake his good performances as him doing us a solid. His performances will see him get better offers, and he’d know that.

Still, he goes with my best wishes, been the best defender I’ve seen since McGreal/Cahill. I imagine we will see him playing for England more now…

On the 9th September 2013 I tweeted the following "Really like the look of the Oldham centre half James Tarkowski - really composed in possession and reads the game well". I was so pleased when the club were linked with him a few years later, and ecstatic when he signed. However, I didn't realise just how good he was going to be. He's an incredible centre half, with a fantastic attitude, a toughness - physically and mentally, and more than deserves a big move. I think his footballing abilities will come to the fore more as well, and he's more than capable. Keane and Mee have been brilliant for the club, however, Tarkowski is on a different level.

Totally agree with every word of that Dan. Just four months after saying you liked the look of him, we tried to sign him but couldn’t raise the money. That’s when Oldham sold him to Brentford.

Simply outstanding player for us.

I know they would have both wanted to play right side, but I often wondered what a Keane / Tarkowski pairing would have been like. Part of me says it might have been even better than the partnerships they had with Ben Mee.

Mee has been brilliant, in our system. Mee benefited us and we benefited Mee, just as much.

In my eyes, Keane and Tarkowski would have been better (even accounting for them both being right sided) than either alongside Mee. Mee is the more limited footballer.

That sounds critical of Mee, which it is, in no way, shape, or form, meant to be. He brings more to the party than just footballing ability.

Although I feel that both Keane and Tarkowski benefited hugely from playing alongside Mee
