Tarkowski is player of the year for a fourth season
James Tarkowski has been confirmed as the Up the Clarets Player of the Year for a fourth successive season after winning yet another man of the match and player ratings double in the final game against Newcastle.
The Newcastle result is shown below with Maxwel Cornet, Nathan Collins and Jack Cork following him in the man of the match vote and the next places in the player ratings going to Nick Pope, Cornet and Cork.
Ben Mee was the winner in our first full season of 2016/17 and was followed by Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson who took the title in 2017/18. Since, it’s been Tarky. He won the award in 2018/19 with 126 points, fourteen ahead of runner-up Charlie Taylor. He scored a sensational 185 points a year later with Mee in second place some seventy points behind.
A year ago he scored 128 points, sixteen points clear of Pope and the same two players are again sixteen points apart this season with both having won eight more points.
Winning the award has to mean a player has enjoyed an outstanding season but to win it in each of four successive seasons shows just how important the player is to us. In those four seasons, Tarkowski has missed just eight Premier League games. Only one of those, the 3-0 win at Brighton in the season just ended was won. He’s a deserving winner of our award yet again.
