No chance Barnes and Rodriguez will start together.
Westwood won't start the season, and neither (I think) will Vydra,
Maybe we'll see a blend of youth and experience.
Exciting Times!!

What does he do? gets caught out of position high up the pitch doing nothing. His set pieces are awful, he doesn't score goals, doesn't create anything, doesn't control the game with his passing, struggles with the basics. He runs around alot, good for a cheap foul.
One of the reasons we were relegated is the drop off of Cork and Westwood meant Brownhill played too many games. I remember Leeds away, every time Leeds got the ball they were on the counter attack with Brownhill playing like an ineffective striker. Zero brain, a good player would realise in that moment to sit in and try get a foot hold in midfield.

Absolutely.
And it’s a bloody long season is the Championship, too. I think we’ve forgotten that.
If we’re chasing a game with 20 to go, give me Barnes and his antics any day of the week.

Brownhill didn’t even play at Leeds away.

Assuming Vyds is injured for the start of the season, not resigning JRod and Barnes would’ve left us with no strikers. I also think their experience and personalities will be important in the dressing room. There’s more to a players value than what we see on the pitch.
Both score goals at this level but I’m not sure either will be starting.

Interesting thing about Vydra:
Before we signed him there was plenty of video of him picking up the ball deep and running at defences, also taking shots from distance.
That's not how we used him

Richardson + 2 new, resign Barnes for a year. I'd be happy with that 4.NewClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:01 pmAssuming Vyds is injured for the start of the season, not resigning JRod and Barnes would’ve left us with no strikers. Instead I fear we're gonna end up with Rodriguez, Barnes, Vydra, Richardson.
How many strikers do Championship teams carry? 4? we we've got 3 (maybe 4 if Vydra stays) already.

Not sure it’s an asset strip as much as the inevitable consequence of relegation this time around. Last time we went down our two biggest assets went for absolute peanuts (ings and trips). J Shak thought he was better than us and went to Derby. However nobody was realistically in for the others as we had only been in the prem for that one season and so they were generally championship players (Mee was a very average left back at this point). This time we have players who have spent some or all of the last 6 years at the top table, with 2 top ten finishes. Those players were never going to accept playing in the championship the same way as the previous lot did.

There were a few signs from Brownhill that he could be a decent player. In the main, I’ve been disappointed with him though I wouldn’t write him off just yet, especially in the league below and presumably playing a very different role.

I imagine a number of our players are better than they get credit for, due to the system that was previously played and the tactical focus. It might take a little time, but I think we will see far more from players like Mcneil (if we keep him), Cork, Westwood, Brownhill and as you say, maybe utilise more what Vydra can actually do, if it's not already too late, given all his injury problems.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:04 pmInteresting thing about Vydra:

I agree to an extent I think we needed to keep at least a couple of the experience. For example if Barnes was staying due to a clause then I can’t understand why we kept Rodriguez.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:46 pmThe problem is we're now lumbered with 3 ageing average central midfielders and 2 poor old strikers. I have expect us to try shift Brownhill on this summer. Can’t see where he fits in Kompanys team and we already know he’s knowhere near good enough for the Prem.
I can understand keeping cork because of westwoods injury.

you forget he was probably playing in the toughest position in our squad with the way we set up and play, and generally against teams best players

It’s no real surprise the two biggest gobshites on the message board think getting rid of the CM whose attributes would be absolutely ideal in the Championship is somehow a good thing.

Pace, dynamism and energy are exactly what Brownhill has. Notably he played better last year when he had more technical players around him in Weghorst, Jay, Cornet, Jay and Cork. Takes the reliance on him to dominate a game with his ball play, he’s not that type. I’m pretty sure he’ll be a big player for VK and shine a bit more at this level, where the drop off in quality is quite substantial.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:56 pmPerhaps so.

We’re not Anderlecht. Why do people think he’s going to create exactly the same side that he had at Anderlecht? We have different players and play in a different league. If he was so happy with the ability of his previous team he wouldn’t have left. You’re just talking absolute b0llocks again, it’s beyond tiresome.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:59 pmLook at Anderlecht, there CMs were the complete opposite of Brownhill.

Like I said unless Kompany is going to change his mantra then I suspect you will be shocked.
Nearly everything I have read about Kompany says that he believes in his set up and mantra, that he is not willing to change for anything. One of the reasons he had fallen out with the owners.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I’m surprised anyone thinks Brownhill won’t be a certain starter for us in the Championship. Kompany may well play a style of football that suits Josh better than under Dyche to be honest - he strikes me more as someone who wants to play on the front foot and press. In any case, none of us really understand Kompany’s style of football or tactical requirements yet, how can we? We can read and watch what happened at Anderlecht, but have no idea if he’s going to pursue the exact same setup here. He may well have learned from his perceived failings at Anderlecht to adopt a slightly altered style to what he is ‘known’ for (and our personnel may govern that).
Do I think he’s perfect? No, none of our players are. Do I think he’s a Premier League standard player? Debatable, but he’s no more or less so than the vast majority of our squad. He’s a grafter and on his previous stint at this level was widely regarded as a standout player at Bristol City. I’m more concerned about keeping him than whether we should drop him personally.

I am hoping VK can develop several players, who to quote Chris Wood may be in their "comfort zone". Maybe Josh or Dwight. For me thats the sign of a good manager. Dyche did it with Heaton, Arfield, Barton, Barnes, Jones, McNeil and several others
