Says that VK spoke to him over a month ago.
C J Eagan-Riley said the same thing last week.

It seems things were moving rapidly behind the scenes almost as soon as the season ended.
If not before it ended, which is my guess.

THB, CJ Egan Riley & Luke McNally are the 3 defenders -
Twine & Bastien are the 2 more attacking players.
Aye, see I missed mcnally. Thanks for that.

God know where to look for the "squad list" as stated above. I only use this board and nothing of the rest of the site.

DR Congo play Mauritania in September and he's played four times for them. Hopefully he'll be another international we can add to the ranks.

Agreed, but if the rumoured fee is correct, it's worth the gamble I think.

Sounds like Liege in general have been on a downwards spiral. Their fans say he’s a decent player and could do with a change of scenery.

Sorry CT, but this is not only a personal opinion.

Doubt he's another Weghorst though, maybe he just needs to live more like a professional. New surroundings, challenge and VK will hopefully do the trick.

Has bags of talent though

I’ve been really impressed with Kompany speaking about the importance of togetherness and team spirit. He almost suggested he was surprised at how good he’s found it and how it is of greater value than ability.

That was a huge compliment to the way Dyche had worked and I very much doubt he’d bring in a Weghorst type but he’s obviously seen enough in Bastien as a player to believe he can be of benefit.

Nothing Kompany has said or done so far has disappointed me. I’ve been really impressed.

As others have said, a low risk signing. Sounds like we’ve got him for peanuts and it’s not like we are pinning all our hopes on him. Wout came in for a big fee and a lot to live up to replacing Wood.

I always admired SD’s approach of signing players that would fit with the group mentality, but even he took a risk on Barton with all his baggage and he turned out to be the best CM of my lifetime.

Regarding Kompany, I get the distinct impression that he is a real people person, he isn't egotistical his reputation speaks for itself and players want to play for him. I reckon he would have got on really well with Ben Mee, very similar personalities.

He looks like he's got genuine pace on the clips I've seen, which is great. A lot of the puzzle coming together! Striker and a RM next please! Would also love cornet to stay but can't imagine that's likely.

He was asking questions after he’d already given the answer at times. I think he had a script and was sticking to it.

I think Samuel was briefed on what to say when asked about what type of midfielder he is as well. :)

This is so so Revolutionary of Burnley FC.
Hat's off and well done to Alan Pace and VK.
Obviously on the same wavelength and doing such great deals and signings.
Change was necessary...but Wow!! Revolutionary!
Mucho respect to all BFC.
Don't want anyone slagging them off...there's always a few.
Get behind the New Burnley Football Club. It's our club, our new dynamic, new board, new management team and our club future.
Come on the Clarets!!!!!!!!
Yes or no...

Don't know a thing about him beyond what's been posted on here which makes him sound a total wildcard- anywhere between an 18m valued midfielder headhunted by a handful of Prem clubs and someone struggling in Belgium. But for that fee it's practically zero risk, he's the exact position and role we've needed to strengthen for a couple of years, and we're down to 2 first team centre midfielders until Ash is fit, 1 if Brownhill really does leave, so there's absolutely no downsides to this signing in my opinion.

Exciting unknown who could turn out to be a hidden gem, and at worst we might get to add the Congo to our list of international representations. Welcome aboard Samuel!

I'm not 100% sure but there's a little connotation to the tweet Defour sent him tonight.

It says: "Fais ça bien frero 🔥"

It doesn't translate directly particularly well and I'm not the best at French but it's half way between "do well" and "do it right" which I'd say has a slight connotation of "don't muck it up". Frero means "little brother" but in the sense that Americans use the phrase "kid brother".

Which all seems to match what Belgian is saying.

I think he'll be good for us as long as he stays fit and applies himself. He certainly has much more talent than the fee suggests. As others have said - at that price there's little to lose.

Yes, but ...

There's a hint of it there. Especially with the 'frero' addition. It's just a hint.

Or maybe it's not there at all.

That's most of the possibilities. ;)

For the fee BFC is paying for a 25 year old, the risks are indeed limited against the obvious benefits if things work out well.

I just think we need to add another Barton-like signing, an experienced midfield general

There are no 'Belgium Speakers'. In Belgium you either officially speak French or Flemish (Dutch), though there is also a small area on the Eastern border where German is spoken. I take your point and agree it might help persuade Cornet to stay.
I have said before if we can keep Cornet, Collins and McNeil, together with our new signings we will have a strong team.

I spoke a while back about making these kinds of signings. We need a more multicultural squad to attract a wider variety of players.
Having Cornet and Kompany will be a big help to Bastien when it comes to settling down, and if he can fit in which we all hope he does, it shows it's a good place to come for future foreign talent.

Very encouraging to hear how blown away by the training ground and facilities that he is also. He's coming from a club with 10 league titles and saying.

Am I the only person having a melt down.......5 signings July 5th....If this continues I maybe very excited about the next season, currently I am just excited and chuffed I yet again renewed our season tickets back in March....UTC
But this is against 8 outgoings and likely at least 9 with Hennessy to Forest
A good thing we have been getting players in with that exodus

And if I recall SD wanted the money from our second season in the Prem and subsequent relegation to be used in part on the training ground

Only important if it converts to something.....

I find it interesting that people who have regularly dug out the club for signing players past their prime, are now getting excited at a player whose value has plummeted, and according to the most consistent commentator on Belgian league football on here, hasn't played well for 2 years. Each to their own though.

Having listened to his great interview and seen the impressive influx of new players, its made me realise the importance of keeping some of the "big characters" we have, to unite everyone, and make them feel part of our great club.Pope would have been one of these, but I think players like Dwight, Cork, Barnes, Jay, Lowton and maybe even Roberts and Collins, could play a bit part in this

I agree. It's probably not his major role, and he tries to do a job, but there should be someone at the club who sees his deficiencies and corrects them. A bit of training from a media company shouldn't cost too much and would improve the product markedly.
