Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer him to stay, but he's far from the finished article, as his naivety in that final league game showed. A season at this level would have done him good in my opinion.burnleymik wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:38 pmThat's true, but he was a regular at Stoke in the Championship and now has Premier League experience under his belt. That would be invaluable with the players we now have in.

We can't expect to challenge for promotion with Hardwood-Bellis, Egan-Riley, Keving Long and Luke McNally as our centre backs.
It's just not going to happen.
Pace seems intent on accepting any offer we get for our senior pros.
Insanity.

Any news on the Cullen medical ?
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Yes very true and very reliable Percy - was referring to Lancaster’s specific comment that when he tweets it means it’s definitely happening.
While you are here, your post suggested Stoke will get 5/6m which I don’t believe is correct.
The clause will be % (15-20 as a guess) of profit (7/8m ish), which would work out to be around 1-1.5m in total to them.

Whilst understanding the logistics of relegation and the need to put 'our house in order'. However, I find it hard to believe we've agreed a release clause on Collins of around £20m. To me it doesn't make sense, especially taking into account the sell on clause Stoke will no doubt have included. I can't help feeling that if Collins does indeed move which now seems highly likely, our chances of a quick return to the PL are severely dented.

It could be that without the quoted release clauses, Collins and Cornet would not have signed for us.

It’s not insanity, it’s reality. Had we stayed up, Collins would have had 2-3 seasons with us before potentially going for big money to a top club, that’s still the model. As it happens he’s going for less because he wants to go. Not hard to understand really.

People slagging the club off for release clauses.
Do people actually think a lot of these talented players like Collins, Cornet etc would actually sign for us in the first place knowing we've always a chance of relegation if we didn't have them in their contracts?
Players hold all the power at a club like ours I'm afraid..

Would love for Collins to stay. Him and THB at the back is more than enough for a promotion push. However, if we are to lose Collins I’d like for us to be in for a veteran CB. Someone who’s been around and done it already. What’s Ben Mee up to these days?

Collins would not have signed for us without a release clause, a negative aspect of relegation I'm afraid, not much we can do about it. Bite the bullet and move on.
I am hoping Bobby Thomas, just a few months younger than Collins, is given a good chance to show if he is capable at Championship level.

NO GK and none of our three central defenders-the pressure on the new players is going to be immense, particularly if we cannot take pressure of them by having several strong attacking forwards

Think you'll find much of our fanbase thought 10m was a low offer for Nick Pope with 2 years on his deal. (1 year + option)fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:50 pmI don't see the relevance or comparison with Pope.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I'd guess that players and their agents hold all the cards when dealing with a club like us (especially when we're in the PL. They either price themselves out of our wage structure or make us agree to release clauses so we can do little to stop them from moving on.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:19 pmI'd say for any of these young players we are signing - don't get too attached to them. I'd say virtually all of them will have release clauses in their contracts which end up being considerably lower than we think it should be.
It's the ALK model isn't it? Sign for cheap(ish) and aim for a smallish profit. I have my doubts it's a model that will get us back into the Premier League any time soon.

Like you I find it hard to believe that the release clause is so low. If, for instance, he was to stay will us and had a tremendous season helping us to regain our PL status we would still have to let him go for 20m when a team came in for him. Just seems wrong.ashtonlongsider wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:47 pmWhilst understanding the logistics of relegation and the need to put 'our house in order'. Perhaps that was the only offer we received.

Nixon saying no bid at our valuation yet. Hopefully this is just Wolves/agent trying to push a lower price in the press following them agreeing personal terms.

Probably that 20.5m is their opening bid and they're not too far offer the valuation, so the deal is seen as in 'advanced talks'
It's probably a minor quarrel, like they want 20.5m + addons to make 25m, Burnley want a flat 25m.
It's expected that they will be able to make a deal.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
From the outside looking in, Collins has played 18 games in the Premier League. We of course know he’s worth more than that, and his value will likely continue to increase, but it’s a hard sell to convince teams of that especially when we’re in the league below and skint (hoping this doesn’t count as financial discussion).

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Shock Horror!!! A Premier League standard player doesn't want to stay at a relegated club. This is the reality of us being relegated.
Just like we don't seem to be hanging around signing players, moving into next targets quickly rather than hanging around we seem to be doing the same when players are wanting to leave, yes we may not our desired value but once a player wants to go...he is going, so best getting them out the door.
Not happy with this but was always going to happen, now let's get him out the door, get the money and re invest

Just looked it up. Nathan Ake & Ben Godfrey appear to be the only Championship defenders who have gone for more than the reported £20.5m. Ake had several seasons in the Prem under his belt at that point and Godfrey has just played a full Prem season for Norwich.
I mentioned Keane above, but his move was whilst we were still in the Prem.
