When we sell our best players and replace them with freebies and loans, oh wait....dandeclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:16 pmWhen do we get to ask the question legitimately on asset stripping?
The football club is going to end up the only loser in this whole sorry affair. Exciting times.
PSG paid £170m for Mbappe, Burnley FC paid £170m for Alan Pace.
To what benefit? I'd bet we spent more under Garlick (net) than under ALK. Higher ticket prices and more empty seats. Academy gone backwards, communication at an all time low. Income (minus TV deal/transfers out) was down? This idea they were gonna generate extra revenue by making us more of a global brand and selling more shirts turned out to be a complete myth. Relegated under their watch.
So what exactly has the benefit been? I liked the bold decision to sack Dyche and I like the Kompany appointment. Transfer reveal videos are pretty cool compared to the old Crouch robot video. Is this worth the club paying £102M in debts for new owners? (I'll even remove the money owed to Garlick still)

Pace has seen Tarkowski walk for free and decided he's never letting that happen again. If there's profit there, he's going to take it.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 6:01 pmShock Horror!!! A Premier League standard player doesn't want to stay at a relegated club. This is the reality of us being relegated.
Just like we don't seem to be hanging around signing players, moving into next targets quickly rather than hanging around we seem to be doing the same when players are wanting to leave, yes we may not our desired value but once a player wants to go...he is going, so best getting them out the door.
Not happy with this but was always going to happen, now let's get him out the door, get the money and re invest

Nixon reckons we want around 30m.
Worth mentioning he was the one who broke Wolves’ interest in the first place.

I was very excited and optimistic about this season. It is quickly evaporating with this news. It’s now pretty likely we are not going to be promoted.

Do you still think promotion is likely then?
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I’m just laughing at your ability to suggest at this exact point in time, without knowing the full facts of the deal, without knowing what reinvestment we’ll do, how the new signings will do and pretty much everything else, that we are now likely to not be promoted because of an expected sale.

Sell, get rid of our current performers and buy unproven talent.
Collins and McNeil were the two players we needed to build our promotion push around.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
No surprise that Collins is off, dissapointed to be losing a good player but this was always going to be the ALK model, sell players for X amount, allow a small amount of that to be reinvested and the rest goes towards financing loans, debt however you want to put it. Also think the Collins deal will go the way of quite a lot of undisclosed ones, the club buying will say to their sources or local press etc closer to £20million and the club selling will say closer to £30million, either way it’s rare bar the clubs involved anyone finds out the true price.

We were always going to sell these players, by the way. How many other defenders of his profile have gone for £30m in recent times? £20m isn't as wacky as some of you are making out here.

Why result to degrading comments.
My opinion is that we are losing a critical member of the squad. Top talents are the difference between championship mediocrity and promotion.
We are losing one of our only genuine premier league talents, so yes I personally think this move will likely result in promotion not happening.
How is that a childish view?

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Yeah £20m+ seems about right for an unproven PL centre half with potential.
Some fans have got mental ideas of how much we should sell players. We vastly over-egg how good some of our players actually are. No one wanted to pay a fee for Tarks, no one wants Mee for free and Pope sold for a fee that some were expecting 4x the amount for.
Get real. No one is going to spend big on any of the players that just got relegated and played bloody awfully for the last year.

Can we all stop losing our minds until the deal is actually finalised.
Collins was never worth £40M as I’ve seen people trying to suggest, and Nixon is saying we want £30M.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
This is how the best clubs operate (has been city’s model for the last few years)
Everyone is for sale always, player X costs £y - Meet it or go elsewhere.
I’d argue we have set our £y a little low here for Collins but you have to get the logic - we could have sold Tarks for 15-20m last summer but we wanted to stay up (we still went down with him) so lost 20m + 2-2.5m in Wages for no gain - hindsight is easy but I guess this strategy is about preventing that.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It’s nonsense to be arguing over a single figure. Even if the £20.5m is correct, there could be lots of other variables such as proportion paid up front, potential for add ons and the size of any sell on clause. Those factors could make a huge difference to the overall “value”. Deal structure is massively important.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Surprised there’s interest above £20m to be honest. The lad has got potential that’s for sure, but he’s played just half a season, fairly averagely, for a relegated side. I would certainly prefer to keep him but getting anything above £20m would represent a very tidy profit in a very short space of time.
The problem is of course we know what the significant part of this sum will be used for and unfortunately it won’t be re-investment in the playing squad.
