Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Kompany is probably annoyed but on some level must be aware he's now on a no-lose.
Pull off promotion he's a miracle worker, stock through the roof.
Fail, not his fault, team got hamstrung. Gets a new job elsewhere with a fairer crack of the whip.
I'm far from confident that radically overhauling the team to play City-lite with players that are far more limited than the players you normally need for that system is the right approach, but I don't see how it's going to be fair to criticise Kompany in the coming season unless we're truly abject.
Of course, without the right replacements, the possibility of being truly abject increases.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Having watched his highlights I can confirm that he is the greatest footballer ever.

I don’t think Kompany rated McNeil he won’t be too bothered he can bring in his own players now
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Anything on Roberts, aside from Nixon linking him to Wolves a few weeks ago?

Vitinho left back, Maatsen left midfield ? Pretty much every Coventry fan said Maatsen was superb going forward but a bit suspect defensively.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Marseille fans on Twitter think he is going to them.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 2:32 pmIf of interest to anyone, I have had a check on the Antwerp forum to get the thoughts on Benson.
They think the price is too cheap (with the 1.5m offer being ‘insulting’). They rate him very highly - but say that he was poor before the season just gone. They think he will go as the club will take £3m and that he would be a stand out player for a league like the Championship. They believe there is alternative firm interest from Marseille and Lyon.

Congratulations on not reading or understanding my post.1HappyClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 3:18 pmYou want to build a team round a player that twists himself in to the ground because he can't use his right foot, sored ZERO goals last year and created ONE assist in the season. That would be a very exciting player to build a team round. Everton fans will be on his back as soon as he loses the ball because he won't use his right foot. You only need to see this from the friendly against Wolves when he lost the ball because he wouldn't use his right foot and we conceded.
If the fee is £20m then that has to be a good deal for someone who is so one footed and scored zero goals and one assist last year.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
This is my concern. Doesn't seem a position we need unless it was as LB backup in which case why sign Maatsen. Though I almost think Maatsen might be to replace Taylor at this right.
Definitely an interesting out of the box signing, but Roberts did excellent last time at this level so I'd rather stick with him if I had to choose.

Did not VK say he wants two for every position, but that means Lowton will probably go, and in fairness he strikes me as someone who still wants to play regularly. Linked to WBA and Steve Bruce earlier in window, and supect club would let him go FOC

He appears (from good old YouTube) to play left and right and seems so advanced that it’s not difficult to imagine him being deployed almost in any position apart from GK, CB, CM and Striker. Seems adaptable, possibly a very good substitute with his pace.

23, played 69 times for Brugges, 48 as starter, twice for the Brazil under 20s. 1 goal 1 assist last season, 1 goal 2 assists year before.
Was an unexpected callup to a training camp with the senior squad for the 2018 World Cup on home turf aged 18, trained with them but unsurprisingly didn't make the cut as he'd played 1 club game. Article here in Portugese mentions him:
https://www.mg.superesportes.com.br/app ... eira.shtml
Doesn't get much more left-field than this. Except he plays on the right.

I agree .....on one of the training videos you can hear Kompany repeatedly telling Dwight to use his right foot, he's good but VERY one-footed. I for one am tired of watching him turn 360 when there's a simple pass on with his right.....it slows down or stops many promising moves.

Fingers crossed Roberts is staying.
And if so it makes sense, for us and him, Lowton moving on.

Of course the big question is can he hack it on a wet Tuesday at Stoke.
Say what you like about Kompany's signings, but he is at least providing something different to the norm that's for sure.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Does anyone know anything about Roberts leaving then? No suggestions of anything in the last few weeks, although I suppose things do come out of the blue like McNeil and this Vitinho today.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Another player who can play in multiple positions, which is a bonus.

From the YouTube video (yes, I know) most of it was this lad attacking down the left but having the advantage of being 2 footed and going either way.
I’d say could be more of a direct replacement for McNeil.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Bit of an out there one but could it be we feel that full backs can be turned into wingers in VKs system?
We all know wingers usually cost more than full backs, with so many at the club right now do we think the likes of this Vitinho and Maatsen can be deployed on the wings?
Right back at present heavily loaded with players that can play there, and so few wingers

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I'd not thought of it like that. In theory I suppose it could work, but I'm of the opinion, from what I've read about Kompany's system in Belgium and for us in pre season, that we won't play with out and out wingers, rather midfielders that will come very narrow to allow attacking full backs to overlap. If that is going to be the case, I can't see how players like Vitinho and Maatsen would be suited to those midfield roles. I can see exactly how they would operate as full backs though.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 4:38 pmFrom the YouTube video (yes, I know) most of it was this lad attacking down the left but having the advantage of being 2 footed and going either way.

Kompany may very well be looking to play a different formation for all we know, though. A 3 at the back possibly with wing backs.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Doesn't Kompany use different formations? Would need players to suit all if he wanted to change it.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Under the positional system VK wants to employ, it's necessary that players can function in a variety of roles. The whole idea is that players rotate throughout the zones, in order to make space, passing opportunities and befuddle the opposition. One trick ponies, no matter how good they are at that trick, wouldn't fit into this system. Every player needs to be quick, able to control the ball in tight spaces, and play a decent pass, no hoofing.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 4:39 pmBit of an out there one but could it be we feel that full backs can be turned into wingers in VKs system?

For those that say we can't play this system, because we don't have the quality of player that Pep does. You're right, but bear in mind, we won't be trying to play it against teams as good as City face.
Before a ball is kicked, I should imagine that some of those players we have bought, will struggle to learn or raise themselves to this system, it's only natural, but if we can get the majority on board, then the next window, or next summer, will leave us looking for a lot less round pegs.
