Trouble is that if any player has a good season they'll be sold in the summer and they won't have much time to learn a new system.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 4:52 pmBefore a ball is kicked, I should imagine that some of those players we have bought, will struggle to learn or raise themselves to this system, it's only natural, but if we can get the majority on board, then the next window, or next summer, will leave us looking for a lot less round pegs.
The club will have to resist offers for players if they want to allow VK time to bed in new players, otherwise we will always be back to square one at the start of each new season.

Kompany waiting to see if Cornet and McNeil leave Burnley
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany says Maxwel Cornet will be integrated into the matchday squad if he is still at the club next week.
The Ivory Coast striker is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs but a transfer has yet to materialise ahead of Burnley's season-opener against Huddersfield on Friday night, live on Sky Sports.
Cornet is training with the club but will not be considered against the Terriers due to his physical condition.
Kompany said: "He is one of them that I have had to manage. At the moment he is at the club. Is he ready to play on Friday? No.
"But that is a physical level. But we can't have players on the wage bill and not have them play.
"If next week he is still here and nothing has developed then we are going to have to look at integrating him at least into the matchday process."
It is the same situation for Dwight McNeil, who has also been linked with a move away from Turf Moor following the club's relegation from the Premier League.
"Dwight is another one, there has been a lot of conversations happening behind the scenes and those happen at a club level," Kompany added. "It is one of those we will have to see how it develops."
If Cornet and McNeil do depart they will join an exodus this summer that has seen a host of established players leave the club, with the likes of Nick Pope, Nathan Collins and Ben Mee all moving on.

I thought the same but he seemed pretty upbeat in todays, and he also said that he knew that it was going to be a total rebuild and that’s what he signed up for.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 2:27 pmDyche always looked media trained from the first day he came in to be honest. Thought Kompany's press conference a few weeks ago was so positive but we are clearly not where he hoped we'd be at this point of time, or that's how it's come across. My comment wasn't meant as a criticism of the manager though in any way.

That requires a level of investment, not taking tens of millions out of the football club to pay their own debts. I wouldn't mind but they haven't put f**k all inTaffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:26 pmWe're playing "Moneyball" now.........how many times?...Buy low--develop--Sell higher!

Athletic saying £20m for McNeil. Had our pants pulled down for the third time this summer then.

I think you’re the first to not think 20m would be a very good deal?

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I really don't like the modern tendency to criticise the players we do have, who have put in great service, because they've got weaknesses/had drops in form/aren't as exciting as a new mystery signing. Some of the criticism of McNeil linked to his potential transfer is pretty much unfathomable to me. I'll be very upset if he leaves, even if we do invest all the money in the team*.
All too often in recent seasons McNeil has been, not just been our best creative outlet, he's been our only creative outlet. Yes, he had a dip last season compared to those before but that happens and I also put some of that down to the drop in performance of the team as a whole.
*(this won't happen of course).

If McNeil is gone (and it seems so), let’s hope the club are moving straight in on O’Hare and Benson (who seems our prime replacement targets) tonight.

Considering we apparently valued him at £40m or something a couple of years ago, I'd be very interested in the reasoning behind it being a good deal.
Yes his form has dropped but he is still potentially a £40m-£50m player in my eyes, just like Collins.
Like any sales, the value or otherwise will be coloured by what we do with the money. At the moment it's looking like £65m-£70mish for McNeil, Collins, Cornet and Pope, plus losing Tarkowski and Mee. We've spent what, £10m or something so far?

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Hope it all turns out aswell as can be. I was quietly excited until recently with our apparent firesale, hoping Roberts and Taylor are not out of the door next. I was expecting a couple to leave, but not this many.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 4:28 pmI like most on here know absolutely about this lad, but if he was in the Brazil under 20 side he must have ability.
Of course the big question is can he hack it on a wet Tuesday at Stoke.
Say what you like about Kompany's signings, but he is at least providing something different to the norm that's for sure.
I'm getting feelings of Wolves when they had just been relegated from the PL, when they appointed that Norwegian manager {Solbakkan - spelling]
He signed lots of players from the Norway League or his previous contacts.. Wolves ultimately suffered relegation (back to back relegations) to League One that season. Although they'd sacked him and brought in Dean Saunders to try save the sinking the ship.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
How is it a very good deal when we get quoted £10m for o’hare for a replacement? For someone whose never played in the premier league.
Where is the premium for young english players who have performed well in the Premier league?
22 years old and over 100 prem appearances. Everton are getting a bargain.
I think too many of us have forgotten how good Dwight has been and are letting last season cloud their memories.

Collins upset me as I thought we’d get a season out of him - same applies to McNeil. I was realistic about Pope, Weghorst, Cornet, Tarky etc, but these two are a disappointment for sure.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 6:16 pmFabrizo confirms it

Precisely how much did you expect to get for Dwight, he's been poor for the last 12 months, and his lacked any end product.
However he does need to be replaced, and this will be the true test of our ambitions this season.
I assume if and when he does go we'll go back in for O'Hare, which given our situation is as good as we can expect.

Good luck to him.
He did a job for us, had tailed off last season but so did most of the team.
£20 million Inc add-ons is less than I expected but we got him for nothing so it's good money.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I suppose the only good thing with the McNeil sale is that the full fee is ours. We don’t need to use any of it to pay off a transfer fee like Collins and potentially Cornet.

time will tell. I wish him well, let's hope he regains his confidence and fulfills his potential (especially if we have any sort of sell on clause)
