I hate them all... Even the Slade one, and I'm actually a big fan of Slade.
It's a real shame that the BBC have chosen to amend the lyrics of Fairytale to make it more "acceptable"
Jethro Tull's 'Solstice Bells' is a great tune.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 6:03 pmFairytale of New York is a great song.
Also Jethro Tull "Christmas Song" which is satisfactorily miserable.
That is a truly beautiful song, and a fantastic voice.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 8:01 pmFTofNY is untouchable as the best but I like Johnny Mathis, When A Child Is Born and Bruce, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

My favourite Christmas song ever Steve. Stands up in its own right as a song regardless of Christmas. There is a cynicism in it that you don’t normally get in these songs.
You and the TOTP director.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 11:00 pm"Reet Petite" by the dart player Jocky Wilson, I bloody love novelty songs.
Brilliant, I put a link to that earlier in the thread.Kingsleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 4:15 amChristmas Wrapping -The Waitresses is my all time favourite and any Motown Christmas song reminds me of mine and Mrs KC’s first Christmas in our first house in Coventry.
Without doubt Ian it is the best Xmas tune.houseboy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 9:42 amMy favourite Christmas song ever Steve. Stands up in its own right as a song regardless of Christmas. There is a cynicism in it that you don’t normally get in these songs.
They sold me a dream of Christmas,
They sold me a silent night,
They sold me a fairy story,
Till I believed in the Israelite.
Marvellously cynical about the commercialism of Christmas. All ending with:
Be it heaven or hell the Christmas you get you deserve.
The video is great too. Unfortunately Greg is no llonger around to sing it.
