Like I said on the other thread Greg Lake's I believe in Father Christmas is a beautiful song with a message....I quite like Christmas.

I do like I Believe In Father Christmas. I saw Greg Lake at a concert in Salisbury Cathedral late-ish December many years ago. He was part of the Ian Anderson Band on that tour. He sang IBIFC beautifully, all the more so because of the setting. He also sang a wonderful version of the ELP song Lucky Man,

Anyway - back to the thread. Although this song was never particularly “cool” nor its singer artistically feted, I think it’s a lovely Christmas song.

The Pogues fairy tale of New York is a classic, TBH I quite like the Band Aid effort makes you think how lucky we are the chimes in it are haunting.

It's a real shame that the BBC have chosen to amend the lyrics of Fairytale to make it more "acceptable"

My favourite Christmas song ever Steve. Stands up in its own right as a song regardless of Christmas. There is a cynicism in it that you don’t normally get in these songs.

Marvellously cynical about the commercialism of Christmas. All ending with:

I always have a laugh when the Slade one booms out. It's a great song that was written, by Noddy Holder's own admission, during a meaningful, lunch time session in a Wolverhampton boozer

It now makes him over a million a year in royalties.
My favourite is probably the Johnny Mathas "When a child is born."

Thank you so much for posting that, Chadders.. Filmed on the same tour I saw in Salisbury. It was quite a show, but I remember best IBIFC and Lucky Man.
