If surridge was to come in and have same record as last season 7 in 17 it would make a good signing

Yeah, but Newcastleclaret watched old VHS videos of him and, even tho his mum taped Crossroads over some of them, he reckons he looks ****.

Surridge could turn out to be alright. I was hoping for someone like Dennis (Forrest trying to shift him)

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Some interesting post-match comments from VK today re the transfer window and our loan players. Something along the lines of we need to look at the bigger picture because we have 5 loan players....
Perhaps suggesting we're trying to tie up a deal or two for our loan players?

Not a rumour but Ilias Chair at QPR looks like he’d be a great fit for us. Looks a great little player.

Not sure Chair is fast or strong enough for the PL, would get bullied in my opinion. Excellent little footballer at this level undoubtedly.

Shouldn’t judge surridge on his record, it’s all about players playing with confidence and feeling wanted, look at akpom at Boro 9 goals in 10 games in carrick, he was nearly sold in the summer

Lads, will you at least try and make puns for Sturridge, rather than someone who (it appears) is only linked because its a piece of p**s to make puns out off
Thank god there isn't a player called Frank Boobs (or similar) or you lot would completely lose your s**t

I presume we would try for all the starting loans, but their clubs will want top dollar after being successful.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
You would think that if deals can be done that are realistic for the loanees that are established then it would be sense to push for them given their performances and future values as (probable) regular premier league performers.
THB - circa £5 mill
Maatsen - circa £5 mill
Tella - circa £4 mill
Bayer - circa £3 mill
All guesswork and I am sure that a few of you will think I am way off with those figures

Gullerbull them predictions have got to be wrong you can’t even sign league 1 players for that kind of money. Re: January transfer window rumours.
I suspect any of these (bar perhaps Beyer) would be heavily incentivised on success with us, as well as buy back clauses being inserted by Chelsea and City. I’d guess at something like:
Maatsen - £8m
THB - £15m
Tella - £8m
Beyer - £8m
Maatsen - £8m
THB - £15m
Tella - £8m
Beyer - £8m

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I suppose it depends on clauses inserted I.e first option on buy back etc.
The top players we bought from league one last summer were under five mill.
The loanees are relatively untried at top level.
Like I said, just guessing but probably somewhere between the two

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Also you have to consider whether they actually want to stay
I think Tella is the only one who would 100% say he wants to stay, but the other three could all make decisions that they could get better deals at better clubs in the summer (especially if they continue at their current progress levels)

Forest’s standout loanee from last season was James Garner and as such attracted interest from around 4/5 clubs.
He ended up going to Everton for 15m.

All ifs and buts but on the flip side the positives (ie pretty much guaranteed consistent Premiership football for the first time in their careers with a gelled squad on a journey together) might outweigh the negatives (unsurity of regular starts)

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Beyer seems to have flown under the radar, I think (assuming we go up) he will certainly sign. Maatsen has done brilliantly for us but I think his defensive side will need a lot of work for the big league, that's a gamble we can take but I am not sure a bigger club would take that risk on board or see him as a starter just yet (we would).Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 9:44 amAlso you have to consider whether they actually want to stay

THB though, fully agree with you. I can see City loaning him out again next season but they will want him to continue to be in a high possession team that dominates the ball and plays on the front foot. Whilst that might be our aspiration, it's a different kettle of fish when we go up. City might fancy moving him for his development to a Brighton etc.
Tella I agree with you too - possibly a very simple transfer should Southampton go down, and I think they will.

I can’t see THB making it at City. Not in the short term anyway, and his contract expires in 2024.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 9:56 amI think we are nailed on to get THB on loan again if we go up tbh

I can see another loan being an option (given the expiry) but more broadly I think we’ll see us reducing our reliance on loans if we made the Prem.
I’d like to see us do a decent and fair deal with City, whereby they get a higher fee if he keeps us up, a sell on and first refusal on any sale. That seems reasonable, especially when otherwise he could leave for nothing the following summer.
As I’ve said before though, it all depends how much he wants to be here and all the signs are that he’s loving it.
